Euro, Pound May Rise AsPMIs Set Stage For ECBAnd BOE Results

Pound Remains StrongerAfter a 14-Month High

Manufacturing PMI

The UK Purchasing Managers Index formanufacturing rose to a fourteen month high,according to the Markit release. The PMI was reportedat 51.3 in May, beating expectations for 50.3 andhigher than Aprils revised 50.2 manufacturing indexresult. A PMI reported above 50.0 indicates expansionin sector activity.The domestic market was the main driver of newfactory order inflows, but new export business alsoincreased in May, according to Markit. The strongestmanufacturing performance was seen by consumergoods producers. Job creation was surveyed in themanufacturing sector for the first time in four months.Markit noted that the PMI points to a second quarter ofeconomic expansion, following the 0.3% GDP growthseen in Q1. Signs that the manufacturing sector isalso recovering will add further weight to the Bank ofEnglands decision to wait-and-see before adding to itsaccommodative policy stance, said Markit SeniorEconomist Rob Dobson. Signs of further economicgrowth are Pound positive, especially ahead of theBoE QE decision,
