It is hard to believe that this is the last newsletter of the year! It has been an absolute pleasure getting to know your child over the past few months and I'm very much looking forward to next September and starting the school year off with a bang! Congrats to our Grade 8s on their promotion to high school. The Grade 8 students have been such strong leaders this year, and they will be missed! Good luck with your journey into secondary school and keep in touch. I would also like to thank our School Council for their hard work this year. Without their leadership, many of the subsidies and events around Dalewood wouldn't take place. A huge merci to you! June is a busy month with year end trips, sports, etc. so please check School Cash Online and look out for permission forms and newsletters coming home. We want to make sure that everyone enjoys the last month together. Also, our website, http://dalewood.dsbn.org/ has information at your fingertips. It is hard to believe that this is the last newsletter of the year! It has been an absolute pleasure

getting to know your child over the past few months and I'm very much looking forward to next

September and starting the school year off with a bang!

Congrats to our Grade 8s on their promotion to high school. The Grade 8 students have been

such strong leaders this year, and they will be missed! Good luck with your journey into

secondary school and keep in touch.

I would also like to thank our School Council for their hard work this year. Without their

leadership, many of the subsidies and events around Dalewood wouldn't take place. A huge

merci to you!

June is a busy month with year end trips, sports, etc. so please check School Cash Online and look

out for permission forms and newsletters coming home. We want to make sure that everyone

enjoys the last month together. Also, our website, http://dalewood.dsbn.org/ has information at

your fingertips.

More information regarding start up will come home with your child in September. In the

meantime, save the date of September 17 for Meet the Teacher.

Have a safe and enjoyable summer, see you in September !

Spring into Spring -- Walk to School Day

Families are encouraged to leave the car at home and choose an active trip to school. If you ride a bus, take part by walking to your bus stop. If you must travel by car, consider parking a few blocks away so you can walk part of the trip. Students are encouraged to wear green to celebrate the event. Don’t forget to dig out your

umbrella’s and rain boots so you can walk whatever the weather. Reducing vehicle use is one of the most important things you can do to reduce the risk of climate change. Pledge to make every day earth day and reduce your carbon footprint by walking, biking or taking your bus to school.

Dalewood Achieves OPHEA’s Healthy Schools Certification Silver Status! Félicitations to the Healthy Schools Team! During the month of April and May they introduced a healthy eating and cooking initiative called You’re The Chef to encourage students to try new foods and learn essential cooking skills to become superstar chefs in the kitchen! In planning, preparing and taking action on this project, Dalewood is now provincially recognized again by OPHEA’s Healthy Schools Certification with Silver status!

Congratulations to the team and everyone that took part! Completing the process is a huge step towards creating a healthier school and setting new goals to make Dalewood a healthier place. The team is looking forward to working on a new project and having more students, parents and community members involved next year! They also hope to have a bigger impact on the community by inspiring and encouraging other DSBN schools to take part and be recognized for the great things they are doing at their schools too!

Thank you to all those who supported Dalewood’s raffle ticket fundraiser!

With your help, School Council raised over $9,000 !!! These funds will be

put towards experiential learning opportunities for our students !

Merci Beaucoup !!!

BeneFITT Workouts

Junior and intermediate students are invited to participate in the next round of intramurals consisting of a variety of 25 minute workout sessions with M. Beneteau. Students will explore our new fitness equipment through interval training and a variety of exercises that will challenge them both physically and mentally. These large group and circuit training sessions will help develop overall fitness as well as coordination and stamina. Students should listen carefully to the announcements for times and dates.

Fitness Room Donations

Mme. Janzen and M. Beneteau have been working hard to create a fitness equipment room for teams, clubs and physical education classes to use to get students excited, engaged and motivated to be active even more at Dalewood. Although we have added some brand new and exciting equipment we are looking for some gently used items such as yoga mats and stability balls to add to our inventory so that we can build towards a class set and get even more students engaged in physical activity. If you have a yoga mat or stability ball that is in good condition and would like to donate it please contact M. Beneteau ([email protected]) or have your child bring it to school! Stay tuned in June for an exciting video and photos highlighting some of the new and exciting physical fitness activities and equipment that are motivating our Dalewood students to challenge their physical fitness!

Fight the bite!

Ticks, mosquitos and rabid animals have no boundaries and can be a risk to you

and your family when walking to and from school or work, waiting at the bus stop,

family trips, while playing in the yard at home or at the park.

Protect yourself and your family from West Nile Virus:

• Reduce standing water where mosquitoes breed

• Cover up, wear long sleeved shirts, long pants, hats socks and shoes

• Repair any damaged window screens

• Use insect repellants containing DEET or Icardin (follow manufacturer’s

instructions)

Reduce the risk of Lyme disease:

• Wear light coloured clothing to help spot ticks

• Use insect repellants containing DEET or Icardin

(follow manufacturer’s instructions)

• Check yourself, your children and pets for ticks after

being outdoors

• Cut your grass and dispose of leaf litter where ticks can live

Prevent rabies:

• Vaccinate your pets

• Do not feed or approach any wild, stray or strange animals

• Do not trap, transport, keep or pet any wild animals

• Do not try and nurse sick animals back to health

Presently, all of these diseases exist in Niagara. For more information, contact
