  • Doug Weight was named interim head coach of the New York Islanders on January 17, 2017, and became the 19th Head Coach in Islandershistory. On April 12 the ‘interim’ tag was removed, making him the fulltime head coach of the Islanders. Prior to assuming the role, the Detroit, Mich. native served as Assistant Coach and Assistant GM. Weight, a four-time NHL All-Star, was named the 12th captain in Islanders history on October 2, 2009. Originally drafted by the New YorkRangers in the second round (34th overall) of the 1990 NHL Entry Draft, Weight's career included stints with the Rangers, Edmonton Oilers, St.Louis Blues, Carolina Hurricanes, Anaheim Ducks and Islanders. He totaled 1,033 points (278 goals, 755 assists) in 1,238 career games.Weight was inducted into the USA Hockey Hall of Fame in 2013.
