AGOL vs Portal for ArcGISFunctionality differences between AGOL & Portal (1 of 3)

Portal is designed for on-premise; for organizations not ready for cloud or in a disconnected environment

Portal has built-in AD by default and will support Enterprise Group authentication in V10.3 .

Both provide website, a map viewer, a content repository, and an API; however, they run in different environments.

AGOL vs Portal for ArcGISFunctionality differences between AGOL & Portal (2 of 3)

Portal allows you to more tightly integrate with ArcGIS server and network environment.

Some capabilities such as configuring your own routing services with the map viewer or sharing the security settings of your organizational users and your ArcGIS Server site, are only possible in Portal for ArcGIS.

Geo-enrichment is available with AGOL and through an Geo-enrichment JavaScript API

AGOL vs Portal for ArcGIS

Functionality differences between AGOL & Portal (3 of 3)

Portal for ArcGIS is a more appropriate choice than AGOL when:

- Require full control over hardware running the portal in order to maintain a particular SLA;

- Data is prohibited from being physically stored-off premises

Summary…

Proposed the hybrid model (AGOL & Portal for ArcGIS Server)

We need to develop governance to oversee AGOL Cost Containment Model/ Credits Monitoring (EGC or DTS

Divisions are responsible for purchasing additional named users for Portal for ArcGIS and AGOL credits
