BIOGRAPHY
Out of a muddy pond ten thousand flowers bloom
Dedication (A Praise Song) - David Rudder, Kaisonian, Poet
Darcels credo was, and still is, to use dance as the vehicle to
enable youths from depressed areas to strive to escape the cycle of
poverty and elevate themselves on the rungs of the social ladder.
Darcel Bradshaw, born in September 30, 1988, started dancing at
the age of 13 with an ad-hoc dance group at Malick Comprehensive
School. Becoming a regular fixture on stage shows held within her
community, it was no surprise when at the age of 16 she was
selected as a contestant in the Miss Elite Beauty/Talent contest, in
which she placed first in the talent portion of the contest with a
self-choreographed piece inspired by international artiste Shikira.
Darcel used this as an inspiration for her formal entry into the performing arts; from there she had
several appearances on the Synergy TV, Friday Nite Live program, where she was able to showcase
her ability and wide repertoire in various local and regional dance styles. After her many television
appearances, she became somewhat of a local celebrity and was invited to numerous functions and
events. At a function where she was to perform as a dancer, she caught the eyes of a local fashion
designer who requested that she modeled a few of his pieces on the runway; this opportunity
catapulted her into the world of Fashion, Design, Styling and Make-Up artistry.
Now considered a full-fledged performer, Darcel focused her energies on her main passion, dance,
she continued to develop herself within the local industry, by interpreting, performing and
appearing in Music Videos with many of our Soca artiste, such as Pelf, 3Suns, Ziggy Rankin, Swappy,
5Star Akil and Ricardo Drue, she has also performed with international acts such as Beenie Man,
Charlie Blacks and Vybz Kartel, her intention is to fuse Soca and Dancehall into her own unique
style
Over the years, Darcel found herself in the role on peer counselor and mentor; she formed her own
dance group Flare Magic, where, as Choreographer and Artistic Director, she teaches dance
especially to youths, she also provides professional dancers for local and international performers
for most shows in Trinidad and Tobago.
