Several programs were sub- mitted for approval and were passed by council members. Chief Albert McKay is to run the tribe as Principal Chief, Wade Tackett is Assistant Chief. Entries are being accepted for “Crowns for a Cure,” the Sec- ond Annual Little Miss and Mr. Relay for Life Pageant. The pageant is held in con- junction with the Pope and Yell County Relay for Life, sched- uled for April 25 and 26 at the Pope County Fairgrounds. Opening ceremonies for the Relay begin at 7 p.m. on April 25 and the pageant begins on the fairground’s stage at 7:30 p.m. The pageant includes three age groups: 2-4 years old, 5-7 years old and 8-11 years old. Winners will receive a sash, a Pastor Bill Pettit (full blood Cherokee), of Hulbert, Okla- homa, performed the new office dedication ceremony. He opened the dedication with prayer and quoted “With God you can have everything, with- out Him nothing.” Mayor Carolyn McGee and Julia Ann Taylor were in at- tendance with the Yell County Historical Society for the dedi- cation. Music was provided by As- sistant Chief Wade Tackett and Pastor Bill Pettit (songs were in Cherokee). Timothy Jones, Headman of Quachita Tribe of Mena, Ark., and Marlin McKay, Speaker of the Council were also in atten- dance. Kay Stockton, Chief of the Sac and White River Band of Chickamauga Cherokees of Missouri were also present. The dedication of the office went great and the crowd really enjoyed the ceremony. Major Duties and Responsibilities The Weekend Kitchen Aid will prepare healthy and nutritional meals for breakfast, lunch, snacks, and supper, while maintaining a sterile and clean work area and maintaining professionalism with all personnel and clients. Primary Activities A. Maintain local and state health code standards B. Plan and prepare well-balanced meals that help to heal recovering clients C. Cherokee Tribal Council Meets Opens Office In Dardanelle Chief Albert McKay her husband with anything he may need. From driving her husband, cooking, cleaning, helping him get his clothes, to handling the finances, Mrs. Tarte has a full time job at home. She and their entire family have stayed strong through the situation. Tarte stated that she felt a large part of their suc- cess has been because of their strong Christian values. Although Chris has recovered very well, his left leg still has a chance of amputation. The bone was shattered in 10 dif- ferent places and the doctors are still waiting on a particular bone to heal. He is able to walk around with his device, but the wheelchair does come in handy. His wife assists him with put- ting on the specialized device in the morning, which is some- what of a lengthy process. Natalie and her husband had to go through a process in ap- plying for the Arkansas Fellow for the Elizabeth Dole Founda- tion. After the application and sev- eral interviews, Mrs. Tarte was selected to represent Arkansas. She is a Dardanelle High School graduate, and before the accident occurred Tarte worked with mentally ill juveniles and juvenile delinquents. “Everybody has been so amazing, and there are a lot of care givers out there that don’t have the type of support system I’ve been so lucky to have,” she said. As of today, Sergeant Chris Tarte is now volunteering at the Dardanelle High School as a baseball coach. He has stated to many people, “I wouldn’t be where I am if it wasn’t for my wife Natalie.” Try our Classifieds.
