DAREDEVIL=S AUSPICIOUSRETURN

A wise man changes his mind, but a fool never will. Such is the
association between the commercial market and Daredevil
(More Than Ready--Chasethewildwind, by Forestry). Luckily for
the third-crop sire, the market was quick to change its opinion
and Lane=s End jumped on the opportunity to bring him back.
After Daredevil failed to attract mares to fill his fourth book in
2019, WinStar Farm accepted an offer from the Jockey Club of
Turkey and the son of More Than Ready boarded a flight abroad
for last year=s breeding season.
But 11 days before the announcement was made of the
stallion=s relocation, a filly by the name of Swiss Skydiver broke
her maiden by 5 1/2 lengths at Churchill Downs for Kenny
McPeek.
This filly alone arguably could have changed the market=s
opinion of her sire, but then she ran second to another daughter
of Daredevil in the GI Kentucky Oaks. Shortly after Swiss
Skydiver=s gutsy duel with eventual Horse of the Year Authentic
(Into Mischief) to win the GI Preakness S., becoming just the sixth
filly in history to do so, it was announced that Daredevil would
return to his home country, relocating to Lane=s End Farm.
ADaredevil is just an incredible story,@ said Lane=s End=s Bill
Farish. AHe got off to such a phenomenal start with his 3-year-
olds, not having had that much 2-year-old form before, but to
finish first and second in the Kentucky Oaks and then go on to
win the Preakness with Swiss Skydiver, it=s amazing what he=s

Greg Harbut=s mission to make horse racing more diverse has
taken take him back to the classroom. Starting in January, he
began a lecture series as part of an entrepreneur residency
program at Wilberforce University in which he delivers the
message to the students at the historically Black university that
getting involved in racing can be a terrific career opportunity.
It=s his latest attempt to help racing solve what is clearly a
problem--its lack of diversity.
AIt=s a wonderful industry, an industry I hold near to my heart
and an industry that has afforded me a lot of opportunities,@
said Harbut, a bloodstock agent, which makes him one of the
few Blacks in a prominent role in the sport. AFrom a factual
standpoint, there just aren=t minorities in this business. We have
to make a strategic effort to go out and target people of color

Farish continued, ASo when we had the opportunity to bring
him back to the United States, we were very excited about it.@
Farish said demand was high when their negotiations were
made with the Turkish Jockey Club.
AI wish we were the only ones looking at him,@ he said. AWe
were just trying, as everybody else was, to find a deal that made
the most sense to them. At the end of the day, they wanted to
keep the whole horse. So that gave us an opportunity to get in
there and make our pitch. Ultimately they chose us, so we feel
very lucky.@
Daredevil will stand at Lane=s End as property of the Jockey
Club of Turkey. Farish said this point has brought up many
questions from breeders.
AIt kind of surprised us when people were assuming he might
go back and forth,@ he said. ABut given that we=re both in the
same hemisphere, that=s not really possible. It=s fully their
intention to leave him here. [Breeders= concern] really was
something that caught us off guard because their decision was
to send him back to where he is having the most success and
certainly [where he can] generate the most revenue for the
Jockey Club.@
Daredevil covered 97 mares while in Turkey, logging the
largest book of any stallion in the country. He had also covered
397 mares in the four years prior to his first relocation.
AI think one thing that=s often overlooked about Daredevil is
that he did have three good-sized books before he left,@ Farish
noted. ASo we really look for him not to have much of a fall off.
He only missed one breeding season here in North America, so I
don=t think that=s going to slow him down. I think he=s got a likely
chance to carry right on through.@

Despite his slower start with his 2-year-olds as a first-crop sire,
the stallion=s race record indicates he could have every chance
to pass on his precocity.
A $260,000 yearling purchase, the Todd Pletcher pupil broke
his maiden on debut by over six lengths and later caught a
speedy victory in the GI Champagne S. over eventual millionaire
Upstart (Flatter), scoring a 107 Beyer Speed Figure.
The Grade I winner is also a half-brother to millionaire
Albertus Maximus (Albert the Great), winner of the 2009
GI Donn H. His Grade I-winning second dam, Race the Wild Wind
(Sunny=s Halo), is also a European Group 1 producer. Grade I
winners Dayoutoftheoffice (Into Mischief) and Here Comes Ben
(Street Cry {Ire}) both appear under the second dam.
APhysically, Daredevil looks a lot like More Than Ready,@ said
Farish. AHe=s strong-made and good-boned. I wasn=t surprised at
all when I saw him; he looked a lot like I had hoped he would. I
think hopefully he=ll pass that on because he=s a great-looking
horse.@
When asked on the trends Farish anticipates from Daredevil=s
first crops upon his return, he replied, AI think we=re going to see
a lot of the same attributes that More Than Ready has. They can
run on the dirt and turf and we=ll see that same type of a very
strong-made, good-boned horse. That=s what we=ve seen so far.@
Daredevil=s star fillies are both on track to return for 4-year-old
campaigns. Shedaresthedevil is in training at Oaklawn and
trainer Brad Cox reported earlier this month that the Oaks
heroine may return in the GII Azeri S. Mar. 13. Last year=s
champion 3-year-old filly Swiss Skydiver recorded her first two
works of 2021 at Gulfstream in February.
ASwiss Skydiver is one of those dream fillies with the way she
strung together one phenomenal performance after another,@
said Farish. AIt would be one thing if she were the only horse
that he produced, but then he had another filly that won the
Oaks and then additional stakes performers as well. So he=s
really stamping himself as a super sire and so far, the breeders
have really responded.@
Aside from his Grade I-winning pair, several other youngsters
made headlines for their sire after his departure to Turkey.
Esplanande was undefeated in her first three starts last
summer, winning the Hoover S. and the Cleveland Kindergarten
S. for trainer Tim Hamm before running second to eventual
GI Breeders= Cup Juvenile Fillies winner Vequist (Nyquist) in the
GI Spinaway S. The sophomore filly is now recording works at
Tampa Bay Downs.
Jewel of Arabia ran third in her juvenile debut in 2019 in the
Stillwater S. and last year, broke her maiden by seven lengths
for Christophe Clemente before taking an allowance at Saratoga.
Daredevil wrapped up 2020 in the fourth slot for second-crop
sires by earnings with only 84 starters compared to the over 130
for each of the top three finishers. Both he and leading first-crop
sire American Pharoah led their class with two Grade I winners
each.
Daredevil will stand his first year at Lane's End at a stud fee of
$25,000.
ADemand has been really good from breeders,@ Farish said.
AHe=s a good-looking horse. Everybody that comes to see him is
just positive all the way around and generally want to breed to
him. He=s a very reasonably-priced horse, for a horse that had
two Classic winners in 2020, so we=re looking forward to more
great things from him.@
Harbut Introducing African American
College Students to Racing (cont. from p1)
The Harbut family history in racing traces all the way back to
the early twentieth century. Harbut=s great-grandfather, Will,
was the long-time groom of Man o=War. His grandfather, Tom,
became the stallion manager at Spendthrift Farm and co-owned
a horse that ran in the 1962 Kentucky Derby. Because he was
Black, Tom Harbut was not allowed to sit in the grandstand
Derby Day to watch his horse race.
Greg Harbut=s father did not get involved in the sport, but that
didn=t stop his son from going into the business. The owner of
Harbut Bloodstock, Harbut specializes in finding top-class
broodmares for his clients, many of whom are overseas. He is
also the co-owner of Necker Island (Hard Spun), a starter in the

Harbut=s participation in the Derby at a time that Louisville was
reeling over the death of Breonna Taylor, became a well-
documented story and it caught the attention of Wilberforce=s
Dr. Taisha Bradley, the school's executive vice president and
chief innovation officer. She knew that he had a story to tell,
how an African American man can make it in a predominantly
white industry.
AThis is still a prime example about learning to break down
barriers and allow your imagination to run wild,@ Harbut said.
AThis will give exposure and the possibility for them to find what
they're passionate about so they can achieve success and then
explore it. We all start with one step.@
He said that about 30 students at the school that is located just
outside Dayton, Ohio will attend his lectures and he hopes to
work with others to get some of them internships in various
segments of the industry.
Harbut, a Lexington resident, is also one of the founders of the
Ed Brown Society. Born into slavery, Brown became one of the
top horsemen of his time. He won the 1870 Belmont S. as a
jockey and the 1877 Kentucky Derby as a trainer. The society
will provide scholarships for minority students interested in
going into racing. Harbut has also started Living the Dream
Stable, a partnership focusing on attracting Blacks into
ownership.
He said that the easiest way to connect with the younger
generation is to tell them about the history of African Americans
in the early days of the sport. Fifteen of the first 28 Kentucky
Derbies were won by Black jockeys.
AI tell them about these trainers and jockeys,@ he said. AThey
were the LeBron James and Michael Jordan of their era. Horse
racing was pretty much the only sport in town and they
dominated and they were well compensated.@
Today, there are only a handful of Black jockeys and from 1921
to 2000, not a single Black rode in the race. It=s not just jockeys.
There are very few Black trainers, owners, breeders or racing
executives. There was a time when many backstretch jobs went
to Blacks. Today, that no longer is the case as the predominant
ethnic group on the backstretch is Latinos. Even Black fans of
the sport seem to be in short supply.
It=s a reason why Harbut sometimes feels out of place when at
the racetrack.
AThere are racetracks that could be a lot more welcoming,@ he
said. AI don=t know how many times I have walked into a
clubhouse or a suite and it=s presumed that I am lost. No I am
not lost. In fact, this is where I belong and I=m quite comfortable
in this type of setting. Just retraining staff to better deal with
something like this would go a long way.@
To Harbut, solving the diversity problems would not just be
good for minorities, but for the sport as a whole.
AIf you look at other sports that are considered mainstream
sports that had been lacking minority participation, they
understood why this was a problem,@ he said. AThey went out
and made it a strategic point to appeal to a broader audience. A
prime example is NASCAR. Through their diversity program, they
produced Bubba Wallace. When a particular group is not
represented in a sport, they are not going to be fans. When you
look around and you don=t see anyone that looks like you,
whether it=s a trainer, jockey or fan, that=s a problem. It=s a
barrier the sport has to overcome.@
Harbut is doing what he can and so is Ray Daniels, the co-
owner of Necker Island and another co-founder of the Ed Brown
Society. But Harbut says he cannot do this alone and that the
entire industry must come together to sell itself to Blacks.
AYou are dealing with an industry that could do a lot better
when it comes to inclusion and diversity,@ he said.
Harbut will continue to do his part, which, for now, means
delivering lectures he hopes will open the eyes of Wilberforce
students. The goal is simple--to convince them to give the horse
racing business a try.

LIFE IS GOOD ON TRACK FOR SAN FELIPE China Horse Club and WinStar Farm's Life is Good (Into
Mischief) tuned up for an expected start in the Mar. 6 GII San
Felipe S. with a five-furlong work in 1:00.80 (4/33) at Santa Anita
Monday morning.
AHe went extremely well,@ trainer Bob Baffert said of the
3-year-old colt's effort.
Tabbed a 'TDN Rising Star' following a debut win at Del Mar
last November, Life is Good is now two-for-two after opening his
sophomore campaign with a win in the Jan. 2 GIII Sham S.
Also working Monday from the Baffert barn, Freedom Fighter
(Violence) went four furlongs in :48.60 (11/66). The 3-year-old
colt, a first-out victor at Del Mar last August, returned to finish
second in the Feb. 6 GII San Vicente S. He is expected to make
his next start in the Mar. 6 GIII Gotham S. at Aqueduct.
Both the San Felipe and the Gotham offer 50 Kentucky Derby
qualifying points to the winner, and 20, 10, five to the horses
finishing second through fourth.
The Baffert-trained Gamine (Into Mischief), recently crowned
Eclipse champion female sprinter, also worked Monday at Santa
Anita, covering four furlongs in an easy :50.20 (48/66). The
4-year-old was most recently seen winning the GI Breeders' Cup
F/M Sprint last November.
In other news from Santa Anita, the Arcadia track announced
Monday that it has increased the purse of the China Doll S. to be
run Mar. 6 from $75,000 to $100,000. Santa Anita will also raise
purses on all overnight races on that day's Big >Cap card by
$15,000 per race.

Bill Finley's report (Week In Review) in the Feb. 9 edition of
TDN on NYRA's action to restrict wagering on its Pick 5 and
Pick 6 wagers by computer-assisted wagering (CAW) players
caught my attention, as does any article written on this form of
wagering, which I call computer robotic wagering or bots for
short.
My experience with the bots and their very smart and well-
capitalized owner managers goes back 20 years or so. Then, as
now, my opinion on wagering by the bots is that over the long
haul, it is destructive to the pari-mutuel business. Bill makes the
good points that the bots are pumping millions upon millions
into racetrack pools and that this handle is coveted by tracks.
Left unsaid, however, is the very real fact that wagering done via
bots is totally reactive to pool money wagered by all other
players, whether you call them normal, regulars, casual fans,
squares or dumb money.
When the mathematical formulas used by the bots see an
imbalance or value in the pools made by other players, this is
when the bots craft and place bets to capture the perceived
value. Naturally, the most effective time for these types of
wagers to be made is as late as possible before pools close and
this is why, on a daily basis, straight wagering odds and probable
payoffs frequently drop sharply in the last wagering cycle. It
cannot be overstated that the daily action of the bots is totally
dependent on the other money coming from all other players. If
these players wager less for whatever reason, the bots will also
reduce proportionately. The life blood of the bots is other
peoples' money and the only growth in bots wagering comes
from this money.
Earlier I labeled bots wagering as destructive to pari-mutuel
wagering. When the bots win their wagers, the normal or
regular players experience reduced payoffs which over time
means less money in their pockets and less money to churn.
When bots win, that normal churn factor is lost, because again,
the bots only wager in proportion to the Aother@ money in the
pools. When they hit in the big Pick 5/6 pools, their winnings or
profits likely go into lifestyle purchases or other investments and
thus are lost for good insofar as pari-mutuel betting.
In the short term, the liquidity provided by bots wagering is
enticing to racetracks, but in the long term--and racing today is
squarely in the long term--the smaller payouts to other bettors,
the tremendous money shift or negative settlements from host
tracks and off-track wagering venues to the locations that host
the bots means that an untold amount of churn has been and
continues to be lost. I would offer that this is a major reason
why annual pari-mutuel handle totals in the U.S. have not seen
any real growth over these many years.
Finley also referred to the payment of rebates to the computer
teams or players. The de facto increase in takeout to all other
bettors and inherent unfairness to them is a whole other story
that is worthy of further analysis.
So where does racing as a whole go from here? For sure it was
easier to accept bots wagering into our pools than it will ever be
to effectively control or eliminate it. But at some point in the
future, racing operators will be forced to confront this reality.
For racing to expend effort to create new fans and bettors is
indeed a worthy venture especially for the bots who always
need fresh money in their business model.

The Retired Racehorse Project (RRP) has welcomed 484
accepted applications, representing 480 unique trainers and
teams, to the 2021 class of the Thoroughbred Makeover and
National Symposium, presented by Thoroughbred Charities of
America. The Thoroughbred Makeover is the world=s largest and
most lucrative retraining competition for ex-racehorses, and the
2021 class combined with 322 trainers from the postponed 2020
competition year will make this the biggest Makeover yet.
AAfter the pandemic forced the cancellation of the 2020
Thoroughbred Makeover, it was important to us to preserve the
opportunity for our 2020 class to compete, and thanks to so
many loyal sponsors and donors from the racing, breeding and
sport horse worlds, we are going to be putting on the largest
retraining competition in history,@ said RRP executive director
Jen Roytz.
Accepted trainers are encouraged to register their horses at
TBMakeover.org as soon as they acquire them. Horse
registration closes July 31, but registration upon acquisition
allows the RRP to better gather data on horses undergoing the
Makeover process.
Accepted trainers for 2021 include Becky Huestis, assistant
rider and manager for John Madden Sales; Darby Mazzarisi,
champion hunter trainer; and Natalie (Voss) Nevills, a three-time
Eclipse Award-winning turf writer for the Paulick Report. They
join a diverse class of trainers hailing from 46 states and four
Canadian provinces. Trainers range in age from 11 (will be 12 at
the time of the Makeover as per rules) to 74.

Parx allowance last September, redeemed himself with a closing
score in the Hollie Hughes S. on Presidents' Day at Aqueduct.
Since that autumn victory, he was a neck second when
defending his title in the restricted New York Stallion Series S.
here in November, before rolling a pair of fours--in the Jan. 2
Gravesend S. and Jan. 9 Say Florida Sandy S., both at Aqueduct.
Second choice behind Tribecca, the bay loitered at the back of
the four-horse field behind splits of :22.98 and :46.71. Steered
out three deep inside the final quarter mile, he took a few
strides to gain momentum, but ultimately motored past his
rivals a few jumps from the wire to win handily. Big Engine
overtook the pacesetting Tribecca in upper stretch, but could
not withstand My Boy Tate's withering rally.
AIt was the perfect setup,@ said co-owner and breeder/trainer
Michelle Nevin, who also had Our Last Buck (Courageous Cat)
entered before a late scratch. AManny [Franco] did the right
thing. he sat chilly and let them come back to him.
AI was mad at myself last month [fourth in the Say Florida
Sandy on Jan. 9], but the temptation of coming back against a
small field made me come back too quick. The scenario of the
race looked like it was void of speed [today] and he has speed.
But as he has gotten older, he=s changed his ways. He=s happier
to let them go a little bit, settle in and then come with a run.

The speedy Superstition, never out of the trifecta in five turf
starts, picked up her first black-type score in Monday's featured
Wishing Well S. sprinting on the Santa Anita turf.
A well-beaten fifth when unveiled over the Del Mar dirt two
summers ago, the $850,000 Keeneland September buy was laid
up for nearly 14 months before returning with a pair of seconds
on the local lawn last fall. Graduating by open lengths back at
Del Mar Nov. 14, the dark bay repeated in an allowance there
15 days later and was fourth--later elevated to third via
disqualification--in her stakes bow in the GIII Las Cienegas S.
here Jan. 9.
Showing a sharp interim worktab highlighted by a half-mile
bullet in :47 3/5 (1/35) here Feb. 3, Superstition was made the
clear third choice and tracked a tear-off longshot leader from
second through scorching fractions of :20.75 and :43.03.
Overhauling the spent leader passing the eighth pole, she
skipped clear and easily held off a mild late bid from Grade I
winner Oleksandra to score.
The winner's GSW full-sister Gloryzapper sold for $1.5 million
to Summer Wind Equine at Keeneland November in 2019 shortly
after her now 3-year-old Medaglia d'Oro filly, unraced A La
Lucie, sold for $1.1 million at Keeneland September. Grand

ARQANA JUMP STARTS THESEASON WITH i250K HURDLER

Arqana has an advantage over its counterparts in Britain and
Ireland in so far as the company is able to stage a live sale in
Deauville this week, with some encouraging returns posted from
the first of two sessions of the February Sale on Monday.
Two six-figure lots were at the head of the action, and trade
was fairly lively throughout, with the average being boosted by
22% to i13,669, while turnover was also up, by 23%, at
i1,654,000 thanks to a much improved clearance rate of 77.5%.
From a smaller offering of 156 for the day, 121 horses were sold
at a median price of i6,500, up from i5,000 last year.

FROM DUNDALK TO CALIFORNIAby Gary King
Going Global (Ire) (Mehmas {Ire}) made an impressive U.S.
debut for trainer Phil D'Amato by taking Sunday's GIII Sweet Life
S. at Santa Anita. Formerly trained by Mick Halford in Ireland,
the 3-year-old filly was purchased privately this winter in a deal
structured by BBA Ireland's Michael Donohoe and Niall Dalton.
Gary King caught up with Donohoe on Monday morning to chat
about the win.
GK: What attracted you to Going Global?
MD: Her first run at Limerick really caught my eye and Niall's
[Dalton]. We liked her action and when she won her maiden at
Dundalk we liked the way she quickened to the line. It was a bit
of a gamble buying her off a Dundalk handicap win but it paid
off. It just goes to show how strong Irish race form is.
GK: Did she strike you as a California kind of horse?
MD: For sure. When I saw her in the flesh she looked the part,
well made with a great hip like a lot of the Mehmas progeny.
The Mehmases all seem to progress with racing which is a great
trait and are sound horses. For racing in California soundness is
so important.

Stud was the leading light of
day one, the AQPS gelding
Hardi Du Mesnil (Fr)
(Masterstroke). At i250,000,
the 4-year-old half-brother to
Gaillard Du Mesnil (Fr) (Saint
Des Saints {Fr}), recent winner
of a Grade 1 novices' hurdle
during the Dublin Racing
Festival, had several pursuers,
but it was David Powell who
lasted longest on Waley-Cohen's behalf.
He said, "He is a horse who deserves a bit of a battle. We are
going to let him have a break for a while to strengthen up."
Hardi Du Mesnil (lot 60) has to date won once on the Flat and,
most recently, over hurdles at Pau in January for trainer
Matthieu Palussiere.
The 7-year-old race mare Lady Paname (Fr) (Soldier Of
Fortune {Ire}) was the day's other six-figure lot, fetching a bid of
i120,000 from Sebastien Desmontils of Chauvigny Global
Equine standing alongside Pierric Rouxel of Haras de
Maulepaire.
Having started her racing career in France under the care of
Elie Lellouche, for whom she won and was placed in the G2
Qatar Prix Chaudenay and G3 Prix de Royaumont, Lady Paname
was sold to race in America, where she won Grade 3 contests at
Belmont and Aqueduct. Sold as lot 160 by La Motteraye
Consignment, she is out of the dual winner Business Class (GB)
(Aussie Rules {GB}). Her future will now be as a National Hunt
broodmare, with Haras de Montaigu's popular young stallion No
Risk At All (Fr) slated to be her first partner.
"We bought her for a
partnership between Ecurie
Drost and Ecurie Tygaly,"
explained Rouxel. "We're
delighted; she's a mare we've
been coveting for a while, and
we love her very much. She's
going to be a broodmare and
we will definitely be sending
her to No Risk At All."
A relatively new name on the
breeding front, Austrian-based
Sage Stud, made a
well-credentialed signing
through Chris Richner. The
agent went to i85,000 for
listed winner Oh Beautiful
(Ire), a daughter of Galileo (Ire) in foal to Shalaa (Ire).
The 12-year-old mare (lot 148) has produced two winners
from her three foals to race and is out of a half-sister to the
storied race mare and producer Cassandra Go (Ire) (Indian Ridge
{Ire}), whose talented dynasty includes the Group 1 winners
Halfway To Heaven (Ire) (Pivotal {GB}) and Magical (Ire) (Galileo
{Ire}).
"The owners have been in the business for over 30 years and
recently bought Sage Stud and completely renovated it," said
Richner. "This is the third year that they have come to Arqana
Sales to find quality mares."
The progressive young steeplechaser Laskalin (Fr) (Martaline
{GB}) was only added to the sale as a wildcard last week as lot
70 and he too found favour with a British-based owner, having
being bought through agent Guy Petit for i77,000. Cont. p3

The 6-year-old, a full-brother to fellow black-type-winning
jumper Laskaline (Fr), recently won the Listed Prix Bernard de
Dufau over fences at Pau for trainer MikaNl Mescam.

GK: How have you found the horses-in-training market during
the last few months?
MD: To be honest, it=s been pretty good. Myself and Niall
working together have had a lot of success these last few
months and always have people looking for Irish horses.
GK: Mehmas obviously had a terrific year with his first
juveniles. Do you expect them to progress as 3-year-olds?
MD: Absolutely. Even though they have proven to be precocious
they are also seriously progressive. They seem to have that will
to win and are very sound. He really could be a very important
stallion in years to come and is in a very good hotel in Tally Ho.
So popular he has become I have only been able to secure one
nomination for my clients.
GK: Before I let you go, have you identified any under the radar
stallions in Europe for the upcoming breeding season?
MD: I have been hearing and seeing very good reports from
Churchill (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) (i30,000 at Coolmore)'s first crop
of 2-year-olds. Also, I think Shalaa (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire})
(i15,000 at Haras de Bouquetot) will have a better 3-year-old
crop after a promising start with his first runners last season.

Jane Chapple-Hyam's Albadri (Ire) (Dandy Man {Ire}) will take
part in the $1.5-million Saudi Derby on the $20-million Saudi
Cup undercard on Feb. 20. A winner on debut, the bay colt raced
exclusively in stakes company in his next four starts, with his
best finish a fifth in the G3 Tattersalls S. in September. His final
2020 appearance was a sixth in the G3 Horris Hill S. two starts
later on Oct. 24. In his latest run, he handled the Southwell
synthetic well and saluted by a length in a handicap there on
Jan. 28.
AWe might be a 100-1 shot, but we got an invitation so may as
well give it a go,@ said the Suffolk trainer. AHe went on the
nearest I could find to dirt in England--which is Southwell. Hollie
[Doyle] was pleased with him, and he won.
AHe=s going out in really good order, and I=m flying out there
tonight [Monday]. It=s very competitive, but every now and
again you=ve got to dip your toe in the deep end. It=s not a
massive field--and because we got the invite, the owners were
keen, so why not?@
She added, AHopefully we can finish in the prize money--which
would help--and he=s come out of his race at Southwell very
well, and he went into that needing it. He=ll have been about
85% fit, so he=s bang on song now. We=ve always liked him. I=ve
always felt he would make up into a 100-rated horse, so he
needs to prove that on Saturday.
AThey=ll go quick, with the Americans and Japanese. When he
won on debut he came from off the pace, but he made the
running last time--so he=s versatile. Hollie rode him in the Horris
Hill and got a really good feel off him that day, which is
important to me because she believes in the horse. Hollie=s on
again.@
HOLLIE DOYLE'S APPEAL DENIED The Feb. 8 appeal made by Hollie Doyle in regards to a six-day
ban after improper use of the whip on Echo Brava (GB)
(Proclamation {Ire}) at Kempton was denied by the British
Horseracing Authority Disciplinary Panel, the BHA announced on
Monday. The six-day ban will stand. The Group 1-winning rider
had chosen to appeal after feeling that the stewards' tone when
conducting the original inquiry was objectionable.
CHESTER UNVEILS MASS ON-SITE TESTING
PLAN FOR BOODLES MAY FESTIVAL A plan for a mass lateral flow COVID-19 testing programme
was unveiled by Chester Race Company Ltd. on Monday. The
course's goal is to test up to 5,000 attendees per day at the
2021 Boodles May Festival on May 5-7. There would be three
separate testing sites, enabling 1,800 lateral flow tests per hour
to take place at the racecourse, with all attendees assigned a
