• The Dark Knight Rises is the third film of the The Dark Knight trilogy. Batman is also a franchise that is part of DC Comics that has had previous films, video games and toys made before the beginning of this trilogy

Technology• The Dark Knight Rises had a huge

budget so they could afford to use top of range equipment including

• Sound Mix: SDDS, Datasat and Dolby Digital

• They had an incredible number of cameras that they used to film with which included IMAX MSM 9802, Panavision Panaflex Gold II and a Panavision Panaflex System 65 Studio

• Although some of the film has cgi effects they tried as much as possible not to to make it look as realistic as possible. A new batwing was introduced which they made and suspended from wires to make it look like it was flying. One of the main uses of special effects used in the film was when the football stadium collapses but Christopher Nolan still wanted to make it look as real as possible so used physical effects as well as the cgi

• Most of the movie was suppost to take place in winter but they filmed during the summer they dressed the set with snow and steam and used lighting effects to make it seem like winter

Location• Filming started in may 2011 and was set to finish in

November

• The first shoot started on May 6th in Jodhpur, India at the Tehrangarh Fort. Filming then commenced in Pittsburgh, places filmed inside the city included the Heinz Filed (site of the American Football scene), which had 11,000 extras in it as the crowd. Filming also took place at the Carnegie Mellon University.

• When filming along the streets of Pittsburgh letters were sent out to residents to warn them that roads were going to be closed for filming as well as 911 operators being informed they would get an increased number of phone calls about gun shots and explosions in the film production. Filming in Pittsburgh finished after Three weeks and then moved on to Los Angles where they filmed for nine weeks.

• The next location was New York where they filmed the trump tower to be Wayne Enterprises. Other locations included in the film were London, Glasgow and Wales

• Several accidents occurred during the corse of production one of them being and tractor trailer crashing into the main entrance at Wollaton Hall.

Distribution• The Dark Knight Rises was distributed by Warner

Brothers Production in the U.S and the UK

• On July 6 2012 Warner Bros held a special screening in IMAX for more than 100 reporters and film critics but there were technical issues with the audio synching with the video so the screening was postponed for one day

• The film premiered on July 16th in New York followed by a European Premiere in Leicester Square, London. The film was released to the public in New Zealand and Australia on July 19th and then in North America and the UK on the 20th.

• The Dark Knight was released on the 28th November in Hong Kong and New Zealand to view at home. It was then released on the 3rd of December in the UK and on the 4th in North America. It is available on Blu Ray, DVD and digital download. It was also released with a box set trilogy.

• Like Most films it was available to download illegally

Marketing• Warner Bros used lots of methods to market there film,

such as Television interviews, adverts as well as online teasers.

• The first part of the campaign was the website launch which had an encrypted audio file. Users decrypted the file which revealed to be a twitter hashtag #TheFireRises. Warner Bros removed a pixel from the from the webpage overtime the hashtag was tweeted and eventually it revealed the first official image of Bane.

• The first teaser trailer was leaked online and in response to this Warner Bros released it officially 3 days after. The same thing also happened with the theatrical trailer, it did receive 12.5 million views within the first 24 hours

• Viral marketing campaigns for the film continued with magazine advertisements in Wired and Empire which were shown as wanted documents for Batman

• Even advertising on F1 cars were used during 2012 British Grand Prix
