Darwin, the capital of Australia’s Northern Territory is a young, thriving cosmopolitan city. The population of Greater Darwin is around 130,000 comprising over 60 nationalities. Located midway between Sydney and Singapore and less than one-hour flying time to our nearest Asian neighbour, Darwin has long been heralded as Australia’s gateway with Asia. The City offers world-class infrastructure with a deepwater Port, an international airport, rail corridor and road network that connects to southern states, supported with a state-of-the-art logistics centre and business park accommodated adjacent to railhead and international Port.
Economically, Darwin continues to punch above its weight with steady GDP growth – largely attributed to the rapid expansion of the resource industries. One such indicator is the rise within the local construction industry that now represents 20 percent of all registered businesses. This growth underpins a buoyant real estate market, while tourism and Defence support industries also make a sizeable contribution to the local economy. Darwin’s employment rate continues to be amongst Australia’s highest. This healthy economic snapshot aligns to a vibrant demographic profile, a young median age around 30 years with a comfortable lifestyle that includes an affinity with outdoor leisure

Darwin’s competitive advantage is its geographic location and world-class infrastructure.
Northern Australia’s Service, Logistics And Supply Hub Darwin is a magnet for opportunity. The Territory boasts abundant natural resources, a sizeable Defence presence, and a dynamic mining and energy industry with several major construction and infrastructure projects underway.
It’s central position on the North Australian coastline and proximity to Asia presents a competitive advantage. This strategic location creates a hub for servicing the region’s expanding oil and gas, marine and Defence industries.
The rich oil and gas reserves off the coast of Northern Australia continue to attract the attention
of the world’s exploration and production companies, and as the offshore industry grows, so does the demand for service and supply industries.
Darwin has one LNG plant and another under construction, a world-class marine supply base, and an established multi-modal port connected to the AustralAsia Railway and substantial available land for industrial development.
Land Development Corporation’s Marine Industry Park will capitalise on the existing infrastructure and exceptional opportunities and will position Darwin as the marine maintenance and servicing hub for the region.

employment growth, creating new opportunities for existing businesses and people entering the workforce. Opportunities across several sectors makes the Northern Territory a serious investment consideration for any local or offshore business seeking to tap into the suite of options created by easy access to, and trade with, Asia. These businesses need
capital, skills and infrastructure, while their employees and families require housing and education.
Now is an ideal time to take a detailed look at the Northern Territory to understand what is on offer and how it will develop, so you can identify potential partners and capitalise on these opportunities in the future.
