Gr 8 National Inter- School Debate Competition 2020 It’s better to debate a question without settling it

than to settle a question without debating it.

The Podar World School, Vadodara organized the National Inter- School Debate Competition 2020 from 2nd December to 5th December. The objective of the competition was to explore the 21st Century Skills of communication, collaboration and creative and critical thinking by encouraging students to brainstorm and investigate, challenge traditional worldviews, form innovative opinions and substantiate their standpoints. They enthusiastically used the opportunity given to them to showcase their talents and realize their immense potential lying within them.

Students’ Feedback: We have done many MUN's before, but this debate competition was the first for us. This is a

great platform for young minds like us, who want to build their future through debating or who want to become more confident in speaking. We are thankful to the Podar team for organizing such an impactful event. Not only are we taking away great debating skills from this competition, but we have also learned about some important topics that are relevant in today's world. Also, a huge thanks to such wonderful judges who gave us valuable feedbacks and increased our self-esteem. Special thanks to our Kothari teachers, Principal Ma'am and Vice Principal Ma’am for giving us this opportunity. We hope to participate in such events in the future too!

KIS from Good to Great- Self Audit Resource Person: Ms Manju Gupta KIS Principal

Gr 6-10 A workshop on the topic -Becoming good to great was conducted for the teachers of the middle wing of Kothari International school by the Principal, Ms Manju Gupta based on the fly wheel approach.

Fly wheel is a very systematic approach towards achieving excellence through disciplined people, disciplined thought and action in which each one takes responsibility for developing self and others in the process. It also identifies the potential of the people and assign them work accordingly to bring out the best in them by sharing the core value of the organisation, be ready to listen to and take corrective measures together.

The constant upskilling oneself can be achieved by identifying one‘s passion, what a person can do best to his or her abilities and of course being professional if

money can be generated out of it. Emphasis was given on self audit for which matrix of improvement was shared to identify the key questions and input-process-output model to achieve the same.

Videos of the movie ‘Hitchki ‘ was a great draw in innovative approach to teaching and Ken Robinson’s video on upskilling people based on their divergent skills, abilities and environment was shared in order to gain an insight of the futuristic education in view of a person’s economic, cultural and social requirement.

The discussion initiated by Principal ma'am led to the idea of academic audit which is faculty driven continuous process of self reflection(individual), collaboration and teamwork through peer feedback and assessment of the key activities which act as a determiner of the quality of students performance. The process is time bound in which SWOT analysis would be done in areas of concern to design improvement plans and implementation in order to achieve not only academic excellence but overall excellence and to make the classroom a centre of excellence.

Overall it was an engaging and fruitful session which showed a structured path leading to excellence and maintaining it till it becomes a habit.

After all it’s - “212 The Extra Degree: Extraordinary Results Begin with One Small Change”

Curriculum design is the planning period when

teachers cum facilitators organize the instructional

units for their course. Curriculum design involves

planning activities, readings, lessons, and

assessments that achieve educational goals. These

include subject-centered design, learner-centered

design, and problem-centered design. In the given

context of covid19, the curriculum and assessment

patterns have undergone several changes and

modifications

A workshop on the new curriculum design orders

was held on 19th December 2020 from 10 A.M to

11.30 A.M. Around 28 Teachers from Grade 6 -8

attended the enlightening session on a virtual

platform – G-suite Google meet. Ms. ParulSaxena, the

academic Coordinator piloted the discussion on

Grade 6-8 designing their curriculum, keeping in

mind the objectives of perennial and sustainable

learning and developing knowledge in students

through experiential and constructive learning.

The discussion was further led up by Ms.

ChitraSisodia from the English department where

she elaborated the aims and objectives to be kept in

mind before designing the curriculum. She

elaborated on the pedagogical approaches employed

by the department for interactive learning. This

included role plays, Presentations, Flip Sessions, etc.

She further rattled on the paradigms in the

assessment pattern which included Quizziz, GForm,

Peer Testing, etc. Ms. Divya Mehta talked about how

the Maths department has woven their curriculum

around the enhancement of reasoning power,

visualization, problem-solving skills, and

development of critical thinking. She threw light on

the authentic assessment like short investigations,

open-response questioning, portfolios, and self/peer

testing that the department follows. This was

followed by Ms. Sarika and EktaMathur who directed

the discussion towards the new curriculum designs

in Science based on inquiry, curiosity, and sensitivity

English Story

Weaving

Competition

Gr 6 to 8 ‘Tall tale Growing Taller’

Can a tall tale grow even taller? We emphatically say,

YES! A story weaving competition, ‘Tall tale Growing

Taller’, was organized for the students of Grades 6 and

7. The event began with a preliminary round followed

by the finals. For the final round, students were given

some famous and undying fables to reinvent. They

miraculously twisted the given fables in their groups

and presented them with great gusto. They put up a

great display of their quirky imaginations and an

offbeat sense of narration to mesmerize their audience.

Their presentations undeniably spoke highly of their

coordination and backstage preparations. The event

has revealed the new scopes and methodologies

embraced by the middle school to make students

curious thinkers, expressive, and Problem-solvers.

And the tale hasn’t finished yet; it will keep on

unfurling more opportunities to let the budding

imaginations grow taller and taller and touch the sky.

2020

Movie Magic Gr 6 to 8 A Movie screening activity was planned for grades six,

seven and eight on December 30, 2020 from 12pm

onwards. The activity was executed considering the

following learning objectives:

1. To enhance learning and increase ignite the curiosity

of students.

2. To demonstrate audience awareness

3. To interpret the latent message each movie offers

4. To apply their learning in real life situations

5. To understand the arrival of sound technology

breathing a new life into the movie experience

6. To acquire a transparent understanding of the

movies shown and ask them the necessary questions

regarding the overall impact of the movies on their

minds.

7. To build a sense of belonging and unity among the

students through a common activity.

The movies chosen were Miracles from Heaven, How

the Grinch stole Christmas and Wonder.

Based on the incredible true story of the Beam family,

the movie MIRACLES FROM HEAVEN directed by

Patricia Riggen was chosen for grade six. The story

begins when Christy discovers her 10-year-old daughter

Anna has a rare, incurable disease, she becomes a

ferocious advocate for her daughter’s healing as she

searches for a solution. After Anna has a freak accident,

an extraordinary miracle unfolds in the wake of her

dramatic rescue that leaves medical specialists

mystified, her family restored and their community

inspired.

The movie will enable the students to realize that

whether they believe these are miracles or consider

them to be a mere coincidence , in the end when

introspecting everyone realizes that if A hadn't led to B

and B hadn't led to C many of the best moments of

their lives might never have happened. The real story

this movie conveys is not the healing of a little girl, it is

that we are all blessed with micro-miracles every day

and that God's is always watching over us.

In the cinematic adaptation of R. J. Palacio’s award-

winning book Wonder, the students as audience join

Auggie as he adapts to regular school life, which comes

with a fair few ups and downs; the downs often

involving different forms of bullying. Out of Auggie’s

struggles and accomplishments, themes of strength,

acceptance, resilience, kindness and respect makes it

an impactful watch for the students

The students were given an extended group activity of

analyzing the movie ‘WONDER’ under various pointers

provided by the teacher. The students were to refer to

the hints given under each pointer to create their own

analysis. They were to prepare a Powerpoint

presentation or a short video of their work.
