AMAP will promote the highest standards of quality and performance in modified asphalt products.

AMAP will inform and educate owners, contractors and specifying agencies about the economic and performance benefits of modified asphalt binders and materials for improved pavement performance.

As an Association we shall: • Be a consolidated voice on issues pertaining to modified asphalt that will grow the industry.

• Encourage User-Producer agencies to adopt higher performance modified asphalt binders.

• Evaluate without bias and communicate advancements in modified asphalt technologies. • Promote standardization of asphalt binder and material testing procedures.

MISSION STATEMENT

Better Roads From Better Technology

On behalf of the Association of Modified Asphalt Producers, I welcome you to the 16th Annual Conference, held this year in beautiful Jacksonville at the Hyatt Riverfront. Our venue sits on the banks of the St. Johns River and is centrally located to offer our attendees access to all that Jacksonville has to offer. Take a river cruise from the Jacksonville landing or head over to San Marco, a shopping and dining destination in the heart of historic Jacksonville.

I invite you to attend the optional AMAP Modified Asphalt Workshop. It presents information on the chemistry of asphalt and modifiers, and information on various modified asphalt systems, testing procedures and the proper use and handling of these materials in the field. The training course is conducted by some of the best experts in the field of modified asphalt and modified asphalt testing.

On Wednesday we look forward to hearing the perspectives of keynote speaker Timothy J. Ruelke, Director of Florida DOT’s Office of Materials. Please join us at our luncheon on Wednesday when we will be announcing our Dave Jones Scholarship winners and awarding our AMAP Person of Year Award. As a special addition, we have an outstanding guest speaker, Dr. Ratanjit S. Sondhe, executive coach and author who has close ties to our industry. Also, be sure to join us for Wednesday evening’s reception, when we induct Dr. David Anderson into our “Asphalt Industry Hall of Fame” and present him with our Lifetime Achievement Award. Another new feature this year will be are tabletop exhibit area. Please stop by the vendor booths to learn more about products that support the modified asphalt industry.

AMAP is the only organization solely dedicated to sponsoring research on the performance benefits of modified asphalts and to promoting the proper use of modified asphalt materials in the paving industry. Now, more than ever, we need to focus our industry on longer lasting solutions based on performance to achieve the best balance between cost and performance. Please attend the business meeting and tell us how we can accomplish this goal for your company. Get involved and serve on an AMAP committee – we need your help to move this organization and this great industry forward!

If you are not already a member company, I urge you to join our group. Our voice grows as our membership grows.

Thank you for attending and supporting AMAP and enjoy your stay here in Jacksonville.

Sincerely,

Jeanne Kendrick, PresidentAssociation of Modified Asphalt Producers

It is my pleasure to add my welcome to AMAP’s 16th Annual Conference & Workshop.

Our highways are an indispensable part of our lives and essential to sustaining a viable economy. We depend on them to deliver a major portion of raw materials and goods. They connect us to our jobs and our loved ones. We use them each and every day, for every conceivable purpose.

I hope this conference will provide a meaningful exchange of ideas and information that will keep modified asphalt systems the first choice for meeting the highway needs of owners/agencies, taxpayers and the traveling public.

As in past years, we have brought together leading experts in polymer, additive and asphalt technologies to discuss the issues of the day and to address the advances in materials and methodologies that allow modified asphalt products to sustain—and increase—their economic and performance value.

As we start 2015, I am pleased to recognize 19 companies and organizations that have joined AMAP in its mission to promote the advancements in materials and technology that will sustain and enhance modified asphalt’s value. Since our last meeting, these companies have become AMAP members:

Alon Asphalt CompanyAmerican Gilsonite CompanyAnton Paar USAAVIC Lutong Company LimitedBASFDynamic Surface Applications, Ltd.The Gorman Group Heatec, Inc.IntertekJiangsu Xinyue Asphalt Co., Ltd.

If your company is not yet an AMAP member, I hope that by the end of this conference you will consider joining. There is no better way to support our common mission to achieve BETTER ROADS FROM BETTER TECHNOLOGY.

Presented To:David A. Anderson, Ph.D.

Dr. Anderson is a professor emeritus of civil engineering at Penn State. He has been active in the area of paving materials and pavement performance for more than 40 years. During that time he has been principal investigator or co-principal investigator on projects totaling nearly $20 million. Dr. Anderson was responsible for the development of the asphalt binder testing procedures during SHRP and delivered a significant portion of the technology that is currently being implemented under Superpave. Dr. Anderson has had considerable experience in pavement durability testing and has been responsible for managing a number of field studies. Dr. Anderson was a co-principal investigator for SHRP Research Project A-002A, in which he was responsible for the physical property-related studies on asphalt binders. In this study, Dr. Anderson’s research team at Penn State was responsible for developing the new SHRP test methods for asphalt binders and played a major role in developing the current asphalt binder specification and associated test methods. The research resulted in a new generation of asphalt binder specifications.

Better Roads From Better Technology

AMAP established the David R. Jones IV Scholarship Fund in 2010. The Fund honors our friend, colleague, Asphalt Hall of Fame recipient and a true legend of our industry, the late Dave Jones. As a true academic we know Dave would be pleased we are helping students interested in pursuing careers in the asphalt industry in his memory. Our program initially started with one $1,000 scholarship per year. The fund has now grown to a point where we now award two $2,000 and one $1,500 scholarship every year.

This year we have 65 applicants from Colleges and Universities across North America. We continue to be impressed with the quality of students applying. The selection process has become more difficult each year of the program. This has prompted us to consider other viable ways we might be helpful.

To that end, AMAP is reaching out to Member Companies interested in providing summer internships for interested student who have applied for scholarships as well as other quality students. These are highly motivated young people who are working toward a career in the asphalt industry. Many have completed undergraduate degrees and have published academic papers. We truly expect this networking process to be a win-win opportunity for our Member companies and the students that participate. However success depends on project support from our member companies.

Please take this chance to support AMAP’s David Jones Intern initiative back to your respective companies and evaluate your possible placement possibilities. Keeping in mind many of these students come preloaded with laboratory and engineering skills and can fill meaningful roles while gaining valuable real world experience.

In the coming weeks you will be hearing more about this program. In the meantime, we would like to hear more from you and your company’s potential interest in supporting this program. Contact Jim Sattler at [email protected]
