Introduction
I first began to imagine myself as a photographer at the age of eight or nine. Using a camera created from Lego
bricks I would pretent to photograph members of my family, the dog, the cat and all manner of subjects. I bought
my first camera, a Hanimex Instamatic, towards the end of Primary school. In 1978 I began to study photography
full-time at the Queensland College of Art. One of only two junior students under the age of sixteen accepted for
enrolement. Studying at QCA intoduced me to a world of art and design that sparked a life-long passion for visual
communication.
I am a visual storyteller and this form of expression manifests in all that I do. From sales presentations to outreach
services. I tell stories using language, design and imagery. My journey formally began with the silver halide and
the wet process. Over the years the hard skills have turned digital. Drawing boards and darkrooms replaced by
tablets and hard drives. Nostalgically, I think about bromides and the smell of chemistry. Yet keenly I embrace the
processing power of a Macbook Pro and the creative freedom of CS6.
A Short Introduction

The visuals are possibly the most important element of all promotional material… the first impression is the lasting impression.
I was engaged to help give Berowra
Christian Community School’s marketing
material a boost in an increasingly
competitive market. Working with the
principal Stephen Spies to develop a
fresh image and message. This has been
rolled out over a range of media including
literature, advertising, e-newsletters and
website.

PrintThe nautilus shell is the inspiration that formed the essential
design element for the Beate Steller logo. Beate had chosen
a Tony Rea photograph of lighthouse steps for the new
website I was constructing for her consultancy business. I
immediately saw the nautilus likeness in Tony’s image and
suggested it be integrated into the new stationery Beate had
requested.
Beauty Within is a self awareness course for girls developed
by Traci Sii of Moonlight Counselling. The brief was to
produce a brochure selling the program to school principals
and educators. While the initial marketing collateral targeted
senior decision-makers, Traci required a look and feel
that would also appeal to teenagers and could be used
consistently across the program.
Flowing from the refreshed branding of the new prospectus, I
created a new logo for Berowra Christian Community School.
The concept of the tree draws on the leafy setting of Berowra
and the idea of growth. The school motto is to “Grow up into
Christ”. The cross of Christ is a central value of the school and
the foliage of the tree is formed by an array of educational
elements.

I have been doing work for Christian Super on a contract basis for the
last twelve months or so. My work there included designing material
for publication in print media and the on web. A refresh of the
Christian Super website and website maintenance.
Additionally, I worked with the marketing manager to develop
Christian Super’s digital marketing footprint. This involved the
introduction and execution of HTML email campaigns and the
implementation of analytic data tracking.

PrintThe Breakfree Foundation provides support programs
for young people at risk from alcohol and drug related
behaviour. The artwork for this banner draws on the
Foundation’s branding. Outdoor education is an essential
element of the Breakfree program, which is based in the
Sutherland Shire. The footprints symbolize a pathway to
breaking free of alcohol and drug dependence.
Youthworks Outdoors operates a number of conference
centres in Sydney, Shoalhaven and the Blue Mountains.
These print advertisements represent Youthworks Outdoors’
core business. Outdoor education programs for schools and
Conference Centre hospitality for Church and Community
groups.
A small group of women came together with a vision to
create a conference for women living in the Illawarra region.
I was engaged to create the marketing collateral and host
the online ticketing for the event. Initially the organising
committee had hoped to attract at least 100 participants.
In the end registrations topped 350. More than triple the
starting target.

WebA website is an important business
gateway. It should be visually appealing
and easy to navigate.
WealthSpring is a Chinese equity firm
based in Shanghai. Recently WealthSpring
opened an office in Sydney and engaged
me to build them a website that looked
clean, ordered and would appeal to their
Australian Chinese clients.

Beate Steller is an adult educator who specialises in loss and
grief training. An important requirement in the design of the
website was the visual representation of loss, grief and pas-
toral care for those grieving. The challenge with this site was
to format the text heavy content in a way that was visually
appealing while minimising the number of clicks needing to
access the relevant information.
I was engaged to produce a series of web banners for
philanthropic organisation eBillAfrica. The banners display
a number of prepaid services from groceries to education
and medical assistance. The banners were created from high
resolution images with optimization for use with electronic
devices.
Christian Super had been scanning newsletters prepared
for print and e-mailing them to their customers as PDF
attachments. This was both not cost effective and very
difficult to track and measure the effectiveness of the
newsletters. Working with the marketing manager I suggested
Christian Super move to producing HTML newsletters that
are cheaper to produce and easy to track and measure.

There is something inexplicable about the sense of satisfaction I get
from capturing a striking image through the lense of a camera. I could
not begin do count the number of photographs I have taken over the
course of my life.
The selection of photos you see on these pages are the tip of my
image iceberg. The shots on this page were virtually chosen at random
and for no particular reason. The photos on the facing page are from a
school context and relevant to the position at Pacific Hills.

Inaburra junior school swimming carnival. The photo to the
far right was taken at the CSSA Southern Metropolitan Zone
Championships.
The image to the left was taken at the Inaburra infants cross
country last term. The netball photo was taken at a Saint
George and Sutherland Shire gala day. The sprinter far right
was photographed last week at the Inaburra senior school
athletics carnival.
The photo far left was taken during Inaburra’s production of
Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat. The centre portrait
was taken for Berowra Christian Community School’s latest
prospectus. The image far right was taken at an Inaburra
Presentation Night at the Wollongong Entertainment Centre.
