• Over 400 layers of information
• Continually adding data
• Accessible to all officers, parish/town councils and ward councillors
• Uses PSMA licensing
• Available from summer 2013
Earthlight - Summary
• 29 councils trained since June 2013
• 19 regularly using Earthlight • Largest users : Nailsea, Portishead,
Winscombe, Yatton, Long Ashton• Diverse range of projects to support
council and community activities

Rights of way, highways adoption, planning applications, etc
• Map creation
• Projects:– asset capture and management – electronic parish plans– emergency plans– public online mapping

• What is Open Data?– Local Government Transparency Code 2014– Publically available online without licensing
• Who is affected?– Local Authorities– Parish and Town councils which have gross
annual income or expenditure (whichever is the higher) exceeding £200,000

• Reduces Freedom of Information requests
• Supports economic growth• Allows information from many different
sources to be joined up (scary diagram…)
