Hall Booking Times A year or two ago we abandoned preparation time as it was causing more problems than it was solving. Users arc now asked to state their booking times which are effectively "Doors open " and "doors closed" times. Would all groups who use the premises please ensure thal all of their members are aware of the registcred time !olot and adhere to it. (If

this currently needs updating please get in touch with David Roberts on 874031) We havc had several instances recently of uscrs arriving latc thus leaving the rooms vulnerable to vandalism . Early arrival means that the gap between bookings, nccessary for the hard pressed caretaker, is compressed - the room might not be ready and cleaning incomplete. Please let David have the arrangements and dales for ncxt seasons meetings as soon as possible together with any changes of personnel on officers posts.

General News From time to time over the next few months people who come to the Hall will be greeted by an Officer of the

Sectional Organisation News SAL TFORD SHORT MAT BOWLS CLUB We have just completed our first season in the Bristol & District League First Division. For the first three or four games. played at away venues, we did not do well II

However. I am happy to report that our team put in a tremendous effort of will and determination to adjust 10 the higher standard of play and win our last matchcs convincingly . We ended up sixth in the league , a vcry commendable result. (It is not unusual for a team to win promotion and at the end of their first season be relegated again). We arc now eonsiLiering entering another team in the league. If you would like to join in the fun, telephone our Secretary, Brian Cryer on 0117 9862491 for more information . We still have one or two vacancies. - Joan Hamblin (Chairman)

SALTFORD PARISH COUNCIL NEWS A Relief Road/Bypass ror Saltrord.

Congratulations! Of the 1650 questionnaires hand delivered to all houses in Saltford we have had replies back from over 1000 households indicating that approximately 80% of you want a relief road to our village. The next step is to convey this information to our local MP Dan Norris and to remind him of his promise to take this on board on our behalf. I have yet to have the pleasure of reading the I ()() pages of comments that you have made on the questionnaire! Footpath Maps or Saltrord. At this time of year I spend a good deal of time writing letters asking people to cut back any overhanging foliage protruding from their properties. May I make a plea on behalf of all pedestrians, especially those with pushchairs or wheel chairs, that any foliage, especially conifers, that overhang the pavement are cut back so that during the rainy days of summer passers-by can walk along without getting wet from the foliage. ,Invasive Plants. SAL T FOR 0, M 0 R N I N G TOWNSWOMENS' GUILD. The April meeting started first with the speaker, Mr. Bob Porton who kept his audienc enthralled and happy throughout his talk - and who can wonder at it all. His subject was Radio Comedy and it was just that. He played ellcerpts from all the old shows, when comedy really was comedy and many members were laughing out loud, and it was surprising how much we had remembered of rcally _good shows. If only other things were so easy

to remember now! After coffee and a chat came the business section ably conducted by the Chairman and the new Secretary Mrs. Doreen Page. Plans for various outings and trips we're discussed -final arrangements held over until May. -May. is the month when Resolutions for the NCM in June have to be dealt with. After many lively discus~illns in small groups arranged by Miss Sheila Biggs decisions were made On which way the Guild will cast it's vote. Two charities arc to be supported this year ,and Mr. David Pincoll, Chairman of the Avon branch gave a most informative and interesting talk on the work and aims of the NACC. A member, Mrs Jean Meston then spoke briefly on the swimming group for the disabled that is held in Keynsham. Nex.t month, on the 13th June, Mrs. Sheila Keevil will talk about Henry VII. - D Roads SAL TFORD FLORAL CLUB It has been a damp & chilly spring, but it has not dampened either our spirits or enthusiasm. The first quarter of our year has been very enjoyable with an interesting Practice Class and ex.cellent Demonstrations. For the April demo 'Out & About,' we were taken on an imaginary walk into the country hy Pam Bluer which she depicted in her floral arrangements by using foliage, wood and spring flowers etc.; things that you would find on such a walk . It was an entertaining afternoon and had us looking fo rward to warm spring days. Another practice class in May, 'Candlelit Shore' will give everyone an opportunity to try their hands at something a lillie different. At the previous monthly meeting, those who wish to 'have a go' are givch a list of the materials needeJ tor the class and a photograph of the design.

On the afternoon we are shown by the demonstrator how the design is put together. Help is always available if needed, and at the ~nd of the afternoon we all take home something of which we can be proud, even though it might not be exactly to the design but that is all pail of the fun. The June demonstration is called 'Lets have Wedding' by Sally Taylor. So another afternoon to look forward to.
