IntroductionFine Art Digital Photography is a traditional art class where the tools are different: instead of canvas and

paint, we use cameras, computers, software programs, and printers.

Our emphasis is on approaching the world of photography as a means of artistic expression (as

opposed to"photojournalism“, Instagram, or taking selfies or "snapshots")

Students at all levels are able to succeed in Fine Art Digital Photography as long as you commit yourself to

the art-making process.

Digital Photography is designed for students who are interested in fine art

photography with digital tools. No prior knowledge of the particular

software programs are required. Because of the project-based nature of the class, students at all levels will be able to

learn at their own pace and create meaningful pieces to add to their portfolio.

ART Standards The Visual Arts Standards are infused in the Fine Art Digital Photography

Throughout the photographic projects that you complete you are constantly evaluating the

artistic skill, both aesthetics and expression, of your own and other’s work and placing the work

in a broader context. Throughout the course, you will be constantly evaluating your own

work and your own progress.

Student's who misbehave in anyway outside of the classroom, this includes being off task, will have their camera priveleges taken away for the remainder of the course. This policy is not taken lightly nor is it metered out without reason. It is my desire to spend my time teaching and not having to deal with discipline issues.

70% Presentation Work

Presentation work consists of all the major projects that students complete which are presented to the class during critiques.

Presentation work is graded based on a rubric for technical and artistic skill, meaning and

originality, and student ability to evaluate work articulately.

Page 17: Day 1 Digital Photography Please DO NOT turn on the computers today! Sit in your assigned seat (check the seating chart on the Screen). –If you have a

Students seeking an "A" grade must complete all aspects of all

assignments and turn them in on time, even the smallest oversight

may threaten your mark. Excellence in Photography is often found in the

details.

Late Work Completed projects and evaluations are due at the beginning of class on the due date. Late work will lose one grade (10%) per

class day that a project is late. All due dates are posted online in the class calendar and announced in

class.

Re-grades Students may redo any on-time presentation work for a higher grade. A student will need to make an appointment with me for a re-grade conference; please bring the original grading sheet to

that conference. All re-grades must be completed within ten school days of the posted grade.

Wait… What? If you have a bad photo for the assignment TURN IT IN! You can do a Re-grade! It’s that simple… the assignment is graded as if it was the original turn in. SWEET!If you turn it in late… you lose points AND the chance to do a Re-grade. BUMMER!Is there a catch? Re-grades need to be done outside of class time – We’re busy with our current assignment – and they are GRADED.. Not guaranteed better grade.Only one Regrade per assignment… as many assignments as you like.

Any questions?
