Neo-Realism, Abstraction, and Modern Art Styles
Neo-Realism• Neorealism, wrote that he was “less
interested in capturing a photographic semblance of nature” and “more preoccupied with the creation of new realities in terms of stress and strain.” In other words, the “non-objective” character of Neorealism was an effort to figure the new objective situation constituted through conflict—the struggle over the significance of things.
Abstraction• Freedom from representational qualities in
art• A trend in painting and sculpture in the
twentieth century.• Abstract art seeks to break away from
traditional representation of physical objects. It explores the relationships of forms and colors, whereas more traditional art represents the world in recognizable images.
