W hen t hings look t oo big for us to handle, w e often just thr ow up our hands in disbelief and

doubt. Could it be when things look too big we do not need to throw up our hands but in-

stead we need to LOOK in our hands?

M ost of us are fam ili ar wi th t he sto ry of M oses. M oses is out grazing his sheep on the

side of M t . Hoab (t he M ount ain of God) w hen he sees a bush on fir e. But instead of

crum bling to ashes it burned, and burn ed, and burned. So he tu rns aside to see w hy it did

not burn up. And there was a perfectly good explanation: it was not a flame! It was an angel

appear ing as a fl am e. (Ex odus 3: 2) So M oses goes to check it out and that

is w hen a m ost m arv elous conversati on begins betw een M oses and God . T he

Lord said, I have observed the m isery of my people w ho are in Egypt ; I have heard their

cry on account of their taskmasters. Indeed, I know their sufferings, and I have come downto deliver them fr om the Egypt ians, and to bri ng them up out of that land to a good and

broad land, a land flow ing wit h mil k and honey ... But Moses said to God, Who am I that I

shoul d go to Pharaoh, and bring the Israelites out of Egypt? Suddenly Moses sounds

just l ik e us! W hen w e are asked to do a task, w e begin to m ake ex cuses. It may be w e do

not w ant t o, or w e do not t hink we can do a good job, or w e just think someone else could

do better. W H O AM I? So M oses start s m aking excuses: Who am I to go back to Egypt -

they want to kill me over there. DONT W ORRY, I W ILL BE W ITH YO U. Then M oses

said But suppose they do not believe me or listen to me but say, The LORD did not appear

to you. The Lord said to him, WHAT IS THAT IN YOUR HAND? Moses, dont you

understand? T hose hands w il l gestur e before Pharaoh. Those hands w il l direct plaguesover the land. Those hands w ill lead M y people out of Egypt . T hose hands

w ill be li ft ed up to divide the sea. T hose hands w ill brin g M y law to Isra-

el. Those hands will show them the way to the door of the Promised Land. WHAT IS

THAT IN YOUR HAND?

And w it h H is human hands Jesus tu rn ed w ater int o w ine. H e calm ed the sto rm . H e

healed the sick, raised the dead, and broke the bread. Then He spread out his hands on a

cross for you and me. A nd as a Risen Chr ist H e now r eaches out t o us. W hen your pasto r

call s, or even som eone fr om Emm aus, how oft en do we say those words, I cant do that!?And we, li ke M oses, begin to m ake our excuses. M aybe you should pause befor e respond-

ing and li sten to t hat deep bass voice w hich sounds lik e thunder, or the calm ing

w hisper. H e is call ing you by nam e? W hat I s That I n Your H and?

SPIRITUAL DIRECTORS THOUGHTS FOR SEPTEMBER

CHRISTIAN ACTION is one of the 3 aspects of a life lived in

Gods grace. Do you recall the image of the stool with the 3 legs?

The talk on Christian Action begins with the statement, It charac-

terizes a Christ-centered life. It is action that flows from onespersonal relationship and commitment to God.

Frequently, I review my actions as a reality check. Have my ac-

tions reflected Christ? I usually do this at the end of a day or a

w eek. I also use specific bibl ical cr it eria. O ne that i s helpful t o m e

is the li st of the fr uit of t he Spir it that the apostl e Paul m entions in

Galatians 5.22-23. You know them: love, joy, peace, patience,

kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Have

my thoughts and actions shown these expressions of the Holy

Spir it ? H ow have my actio ns and w ords affected other people?

I then turn my thoughts to our Heavenly Father in prayer. At

ti m es, t here is affi rm ati on and blessing. At ti m es, there is confes-

sion and repentance. A nd, usuall y, there is the prom ise to m yself

to be more dili gent.This is my r ealit y check. W hat w ay do you employ for your 4th

days with Christ?

I hope to see you at Candlelight on t he 22nd, Cl osing on t he 23rd,

and Comm unity on t he 25th.

From the Registrars...Over the course of the last few walks, we have received some

phone calls asking questions about agape, registration, etc.

Heres a few notes which will hopefully help everyone as we

move forward and prepare for Womens Walk 206 and the 2013

season.

Gift A gape

O ne of the questi ons w e are asked, pr obably most oft en, i s how

m any pieces of gift agape are needed for t he walks/ fli ghts. T he

answ er to t hat questi on is alw ays 72. T his covers the 36 pil grim s

and the team fo r a full w alk/ fli ght, w hich is alw ays the goal!

N ow someti mes w e have a w alk / fli ght does not fi ll up so obvi ous-

ly 72 pieces w il l be too many. In that case, D onna Fill ip is our go

to gir l. She coll ects the left over agape aft er each walk and brings

it t o the foll ow ing comm unit y meeting to be picked and reused at

a later ti m e.

Payin g Walk / Flight Fees

W e ask that w hen you are sponsori ng mor e than one pilgr im on a

w alk , pl ease wr it e a separate check for each pilgri m. Ther e are

ti mes w hen a pil grim is unable to go on their planned w alk due to

il lness, i njur y, w ork issues, or a fami ly em ergency and having

each pil gri ms fee paid separately makes it easier to m ove those

funds to a futur e walk or refund t he money if needed.

Al so, pl ease note that w e do not deposit the check for your pil -

grim unti l the walk has started. T ypically, due to bank hours, thecheck w ill actually go in on the M onday follow ing the walk.

Pilgr im Appl icat ions

Before turning in your pilgrim or caterpillars applications, please

check that the appli cati on is compl ete, accurate, and legible. W e

have received some apps in the last few months that were missing

addr esses, apartment num bers, etc. Please take the tim e to m ake

sure your pilgri ms (and your ow n) infor mation is compl ete andaccurate so that we can get their information into the database

correctly to help both the team on their pil grim w alk and future

teams get in t ouch wit h the our new com munit y m embers.

O n the Chr ysali s Appl ications, the parent/ guardi an M U ST sign

the appli cati on and fil l i n the medical r elease infor mation.

Any appli cati on found w it h mi ssing signatur es and/ or inf orm ati on

may be returned to t he sponsor to be compl eted befor e the pil -

grim w ill be placed on the walk.

Hopefully, as we work together to make each new walk the best

walk ever, these notes will help us all in making the process run

Prayer VigilsAs many of you are aw are, w e are now able

to signup for each walks prayer vigils online

by clicking the link youll find at the bottom

of each walk/flights information page. This

system not o nly m akes it mor e convenient

for each of us to sign up for the prayer vigil ,

but is also located on a websit e w here com-

m unit ies around t he w or ld can joi n us in

praying for the w alks. For exam ple, on the

vigil for Womens Walk #206, we have

folks from Port Tobacco, M D and Cooper,

TX and on Mens Walk #205 we were

joi ned in p rayer by fo lks fr om A t lanta, GA

and Southern Em maus, M D . W e have even

seen folks from as far away as Estonia and

Italy sign up dur ing the sum mer Chr ysali s

Flights.

ing the reunion group listings for our community. Weve talked

The current push to update the reunion group i nform ation w ill bediff erent. It has been quit e a w hile since we have reall y w or ked

on the listings of reunion groups w ith in our com munit y. Some

r eunion gr oups have not been updated since they w ere fi rst posted

and its time we all come together to update our reunion groups

so that as w e move into 2013, w e wi ll be ready to help w elcome

the new, up t o 288, members into our com munit y w ith the op-

por tuni ty t o easil y find an activ e reunion group t hat fi ts their

schedule.

So even if you have tur ned in an update dur ing the spring of 2 012
