Each Spring and Autumn, the 131 Masonic Lodges in Devon meet to give support totalling in excess of £50,000 to local charities. This year we were delighted to be nominated by our local lodge, the Royal Marines Plymouth Lodge No 9528 to receive a fantastic £1,000! The money comes from the “WAKE Fund” which has given over £820,000 to over 900 worthy causes in Devon since 2001.
Under normal circumstances, we would have been presented with our cheque by the Right Worshipful Brother Ian Kingsbury JP, Provincial Grand Master for the Devonshire Freemasons, at a special event at Mount Edgcumbe Masonic Hall in Plymouth. Ian said “I am delighted that the Freemasons of Devon are able to contribute to these important local causes, many of which are so competently run by volunteers, and hopefully these donations will make a real difference. We are acutely aware that in these extreme times, Covid-19 makes fundraising for charities even more difficult than usual so we are happy that we can continue to help”.
Worshipful Brother Trevor Cowley, Director of Ceremonies for Royal Marines Plymouth Lodge No 9528, used the Wand of Office in order to practice social distancing when presenting the £1,000 cheque to volunteer team member Lindsay (see photo below)

IBD DAY
QUIZ
too taxing! Our new regular quizmaster (quizmistress?), Dani, was on hand to put the questions and make sure no-one was cheating! The rounds were on Tea & Coffee, Nursery Rhymes, and Devon & Cornwall so if you think you know your stuff why not give it a go?
You can find Dani’s World IBD Day Quiz on our Facebook page and also on our Youtubechannel, both with subtitles. Enjoy!
Did you join us for our World IBD Day Quiz? If you missed it, it’s not too late to test your wits! There are only three rounds of five

IAN’S RESCHEDULED LONDON MARATHON
Remember Ian Hartley who was going to run the London Marathon (his first time!) in April? Well sadly he wasn’t able to do that due to the lockdown but he’s now got even more time to raisemore funds and practice for the rescheduled date of October 4th 2020!
Ian and his family have a long history of supporting Crohn’s & Colitis UK. He’s pictured left with son, Orlan, at last year’s Plymouth WALK IT where the whole family volunteered as marshals – they were theones giving out the sweets!
Ian has raised just over £1,800 so far which is remarkable but wouldn’t it be great to get him over the £2,000 mark?! If you could spare a few £££s to give Ian your support please visit his fundraising page at https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/IanHart

LETTERBOXING
ON DARTMOOR How would you like to enjoy these fabulous views? They can be found on our charity letterboxing walk which can be enjoyed by all.
To go letterboxing you’ll need amap and a compass and know how to use both. And don’t forget an inkpad, and a pad of paper to
stamp your finds in. And a picnic!
Clue sheets are only £2.50 so it’s a low-cost day out for the whole family. And the walk takes you to parts of Dartmoor that are unlikely to be inundated with visitors so you should be able to easily adhere to social distancing rules. In the current climate, it would be sensible to take hand sanitiser with you so you can clean your hands after replacing the plastic boxes back in their hiding places.
For more information about letterboxing, check out this page.
Just a reminder: before you head out on Dartmoor please check the Dartmoor National Park Authority website and the latest government advice on the Covid-19 pandemic for the latest information. If you’d like to buy one of our clue sheets then please email us at [email protected].

QUIZ CORNER numbers which make up a kind of code. The code represents a well-known phrase, measurement, film or book title, song, or something similar. So, for example, 16 O to a P = 16 Ounces to a Pound, and 8 D a W = 8 Days a Week. If you’re struggling to complete the Number Quiz, you’ll find some clues underneath. When you’ve finished you can check your answers on the back page.

WHAT JACK DID NEXT Of course you will all remember Jack Craigie who is one of our superstar fundraisers. As he says on his fundraising page “Every year Ichallenge myself to raise money for Crohn's & Colitis UK to support the amazing work they do. Due to Covid-19, donations are down by 60%, impacting their research and valuable support to sufferers like myself around the UK and so I wanted to help.” So despite beingstuck at home during the lockdown, he came up with yet another fundraising idea this year - a 26-hour cycle on his exercise bike for the#TwoPointSix challenge!
Of course he dragged his Dad, Mike, and Mum, Rachael into it as well. The deal was that they split the 26 hours of cycling between the three of them in multiples of 2.6 hours. Mum did 2.6 hours, Dad did 5.2 hours, and Jack took on the rest of the time, 18.2 hours - totalling 26 hours. And all without leaving the house.
The Craigie family has already raised over £850 and, with gift aid, it tops £1,000, but it would be great to push their total up a little more! You can support their fantastic fundraising efforts by donating at https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/JackCrai
