Deaf Girl, Hearing World By Faith Wilkinson Slide 2 Synopsis Grace Shaw is a 17-year-old girl with a hearing- impairment. Being deaf can introduce challenges regardless of the severity of the impairment. The series covers many of these issues such as concentration fatigue, group conversations, isolation, bullying, family and friendships and confidence/self-esteem. Each of scenes will be enacted as a personal challenge within the individual as the shot perspectives as from the individual herself. We see what she sees, we hear what she hear, and we feel what she feels. Slide 3 Prominent Characters Grace: The protagonist. Shes quiet and sensitive. She attempts to avoid situations such as group conversations and paying for items in shops. Shes insecure of her voice and speaks in a quiet tone due her disability. She typically wears blouses that are tucked in with skinny jeans. She posses many college books of factual information relating to her History subject, which are stored in her bag. She walks with a straight posture to make up for a lack of confidence. Carol: Graces mother. Carol is extremely considerate of her hearing-impaired daughter. The relationship between mother and daughter is excellent, but Grace still finds her mother unapproachable in light of matters with bullying and issues with her deafness as she feels her mother would lack understanding. Carol is bright and bubbly, hard working. Molly: Molly is a malicious and unkind individual. She cares only for herself, and represented as a stereotypical popular person who relentlessly belittles others to make she seem untouchable. Shes considered to be attractive by many. She bullies Grace mercilessly regarding her disability. Lewis: Lewis is one of Graces peers in her friendship group. Hes considered to be attractive with a confidence and bright personality. I know that. I made this film because I know that I want to break down those barriers. I dont want people to pity the hearing-impaired. I want them to empathize. You see, people judge because they just dont understand. Theres a reason why deafness is referred as the hidden disability. It could be anyone. It could be your neighbor, your friend, even your grandmother. Theres no stereotypes of a deaf person. Theres no particular way that they act, or do things. Everyone is an individual. Everyone is different. - Faith Wilkinson Slide 12 Contact Details Faith Wilkinson Honey Pot Cottage Back Lane Duddon CW6 0EY 01829 781194 [email protected]
