3. On Fri, 18 May, our student leaders in liaison with World Vision, organised No Shoe Day (7th year), one of our annual platforms to inculcate empathy in the BBSS family. It was heartening to see students, teachers and members of our Parent Support Group (PSG) taking part in the charity walk around the school compound bare-footed and donating generously to this worthy cause. A total amount of $2188 was collected, the highest raised so far. 4. Based on parents’ feedback, the school has arranged a parenting talk, “Raising a Motivated Child” on Sat morning, 14 Jul (Annex C). The talk aims to provide participants with the knowledge on the root causes of unmotivated teens and how do we overcome them in using the right approaches as well as setting up appropriate goals and rules. Our PSG has organised a Terrarium activity on Sat, 7 Jul together with a free Zumba session that would be conducted by our Head of Department for English Language and Literature (HOD/EL & Lit), a trained Zumba instructor (Annex D). Do consider signing up for either or both programmes. A PSG membership application form (Annex E) is also attached for those who are keen to join the PSG. 5. I had given a talk to the parents of our graduating cohorts last month in May on “Finding the Star in your Child; Begin with the End in Mind”. While the respective Year Heads shared with both parents and students on what programmes and strategies we have planned to help them in preparing for the National examinations, I was concerned with how parents can spend quality time with their children by being involved. So, as the school does the “day shift” with your child, please provide the SAFE (Annex F) environment to your child during your “night shift” by establishing a strong relationship through quality conversations and interactions at home. 6. In the continuous support for student well-being, I would like to draw your attention to the self-help resources for every student to tap on to empower and equip themselves on the Student Well-being webpage in the school website. The resources are categorises into 3 main categories, Developing Self, Getting through School and Cyberbullying. Students and parents can tap into the self-help information that is relevant to them at their time and comfort. The webpage has recently been updated with more resources such as a guide on ‘Decision Making’, Mindful Breathing and a Parent’s portal to learn more about Cyber wellness. 7. We have also attached the Semestral Assessment (SA2) Schedule for Semester 2 (Annex G) for your child/ward to plan his/her work and revision schedule. Do read the Annexes in the following pages and sign up for the programmes/activities by the respective prescribed dates. Thank you very much. Yours faithfully Mr Phua Huat Chuan Principal

ANNEX C 26 Jun 2018 BBSS18-349 Through: Mr Phua Huat Chuan Principal Dear Parents/Guardians Re: Parenting Workshop on Raising a Motivated Child Thank you for participating in our Parenting Talk Survey 2018 and attending our parenting talk on “Discipline Strategies That Work – Giving Freedom & Setting Boundaries” by Mr Alastair in Term 2. This term, we are pleased to organise another parenting workshop on “Raising a Motivated Child”. Here are the details of the workshop: Topic : Raising A Motivated Child Speaker : Ms Celine Chai Date : Sat, 14 Jul 2018 Time : 9.30 am – 12.30 pm (3 hours) Most parents want to know how they can motivate their children to be responsible teens or the teens themselves want to be motivated in their studies. However, there are times where both parents and children feel that they have tried everything but yet nothing seems to work. Motivation is not inborn, it is a skill that can be learnt and applied. In this talk, Ms Celine Chai will discuss with us what are the root causes of unmotivated teens and how do we overcome them in using the right approaches as well as setting up appropriate goals and rules. You may register via this link https://tinyurl.com/BBSSPTalk072018 or scan the QR Code on the right latest by Tue, 3 Jul 2018 to indicate your interest in attending this workshop. If you have any queries, please contact me at [email protected]. Thank you very much. Yours faithfully Mdm Cindy Yong FamilyMatters@School Coordinator
