The most anticipated and time tested ceremony, the Scholar Badge & All Rounders’Award Ceremony, was organized at DPS-Modern Indian School on April 20,2017 to felicitate a multitude of meritorious students from Grades V –VIII who proved their mettle in the field of academics and extra-curricular in the academic year 2016-17. DPS-MIS HONOURED 380 STUDENTS FROM GRADES III TO VIII FOR

100% ATTENDANCE IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2016-17

DPS-MIS organized felicitation ceremonies to appreciate the students of Grades III to VIII who firmly believe that punctuality lays the foundation for academic achievement and personal development and secured 100% attendance in the academic year 2016-17. The days saw the gracious presence of the esteemed members of DPS-MIS Executive Committee- Mr. Azim Abbas, Director Transport and Security and Mr. Sonny Varghese, Director Public Relations.

DPS-MIS HOSTED THE MAIDEN INTER SCHOOL BIOLOGY WORKSHOP

‘SYNAPSE- QUEST FOR PERFECTION’

DPS-Modern Indian School hosted the first Inter school Biology Workshop, ‘Synapse- Quest for Perfection’ for all the CBSE affiliated Schools in Qatar, under the aegis of Qatar Chapter on 11 March, 2017. Thirty-two teachers from 11 Indian schools attended the one-day refresher course.

Interactive sessions on the topics ‘Making Teaching and Learning of Biology Interesting’, ‘Classroom Management Strategies during Group Activity’ and ‘Dealing with underachievers in Biology’ were conducted by the faculty members of DPS-MIS. The presentations focused on research-based teaching techniques to facilitate logical reasoning and independent & critical thinking among the students.

Vice President Mr. Yasir Nainar, inaugurated the workshop. The participants were welcomed by Headmistress, Senior Secondary school, Ms.Soma Bhattacharjee.

The Principal Ms. Asna Nafees commented that this workshop is an initiative of the Qatar Principal’s Forum for the continual training of teaching staff of all Indian Schools in Qatar

DPS-MIS BUDDING SCIENTISTS WON KEF YOUNG INVENTORS AWARDS -2017 DPS-MIS team of innovative scientists Chirag Shangani (Grade X) and Arham Khalid (Grade X) in the junior category and Milind Sudheer (Grade V) in the sub-junior category bagged the second and the third position respectively in the KEF Young Inventor Awards 2017, an inter school science and technology exhibition, organized by Keralite Engineers Forum at the Palestinian School in Doha recently. In the junior category, the team was awarded with the

second prize for their model of Hydraulic Port and in the sub-junior category, it was the model of Bio gas plant which fetched the third prize. The students were awarded trophies and certificates for their distinct achievements. Around 100 research based and working models were exhibited by the enthusiastic participants from all the schools in Qatar. Principal, Asna Nafees, congratulated the winners for their efforts and performance.

ACTIVITY CORNER

RENDEZVOUS –INTERHOUSE ACTIVITY FEST-2017 FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL

CONCLUDES AT DPS-MIS

DPS-Modern Indian School, organized annual RENDEZVOUS- INTER-HOUSE ACTIVITY FESTIVAL for middle school recently. It was the time for the four house colors to brighten the day with their heightened spirit of healthy competition, conviviality and vibrancy.

The activity bonanza, which underpins the vision and mission of the school, consisted a wide spectrum of diverse competitions in different categories i.e. solo vocal, poetry

writing, cooking without fire, elocution, junk art, group dance ,T-shirt painting etc. among the four houses Lily, Rose, Lotus and Tulip. It was an absolute delight to watch the children exhibiting their extraordinary talents under the guidance of their respective wardens and teachers.

DPS-MIS STUDENTS EXCEL IN QATAR PREPARATORY SCHOOL DEBATE CHAMPIONSHIP 2017

In the recently concluded Qatar Preparatory School Debate championship held at HBKU Student Centre, DPS-MIS Junior boys’ team bagged the Runner-up trophy where Akshal Jain was declared the Best Speaker of the event. In the individual speaker’s category, Harsh, Krishna, Aarav, Danish and Shlok were awarded the second, fourth, seventh and tenth positions respectively.

In the Girls’ event, DPS-MIS Junior girls’ team was the Runner-

up. In the individual speaker’s category, Nakshatra and Priyal

shared the first position whereas Kirti , Yanna and Aina

bagged the third, sixth and eigth positions respectively.

DPS-MIS TEAM WINS THE FIRST POSITION IN THE ASIANET THINK & LEARN

CHALLENGE QUIZ.

The DPS-MIS team comprising Aakash Jain (XI A ) and Jhalak Akhilesh (IX J) participated in the Asianet Think and Learn Challenge held in Dubai and bagged the 1st position in the National Round knocking out five national teams. The quiz was telecasted on Asianet Middle East and the winning team was awarded a certificate and a cash prize of $1000.

conducted by Indian Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF) at Bhavan’s Public School on 15 April 2017. Around 200 students from various Indian Schools participated in the competition held in two different categories – Junior Group-Grades VII to IX and Senior Group-Grades X &XI.DPS-MIS students exhibited their literary and creative skills and Nuza Fathima (IX-J) bagged the second position in the junior category.

Indian Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF), an organization under the aegis of Embassy of India, has been organizing this competition since 2014 in THE memory of Late M. V. Abdul Khader Hajikka, a social and charitable activist, who rendered his services to the Indian Community in Qatar. H.E Mr. P. Kumaran, Ambassador of India to Qatar, distributed prizes and certificates to the high achievers in the prize distribution ceremony held on 23 April 2017 at Indian Cultural Centre.

MOCK FIRE DRILL AT DPS-MIS TO PREPARE THE STUDENTS FOR SAFE

EVACUATION

In continuation of the school’s rigorous and on-going endeavors to create awareness about disaster management and equip the students and staff with safety measures to be adopted in case of an emergency, a mock fire and evacuation drill was conducted at DPS-Modern Indian School on May 3, 2017, which involved all the students from Nursery to XII, teaching and non-teaching staff.

Prior to the commencement of the exercise, various exits were chalked out and teachers were briefed about the objectives and steps to be taken for evacuation which were explained to the students by the teachers .As soon as the alarm rang, all the students escorted by their teachers briskly moved out in an orderly way and assembled in the ground where space was allotted for each class. They were briefed about the safety measures there and advised not to panic in case of any disaster. Keeping all the safety measures in mind and executing

them methodically, a successful evacuation drill was carried out within the stipulated time.

PTM : Parent-Teacher Meeting was held on 14 th May for class VII and 18th May for class VI & VIII to provide a common platform to the parents and the teachers to discuss the child’s academic performance and other related issues and collectively create a conducive atmosphere to enrich the student’s educational experiences,

DPS-MIS ORGANISED A SUCCESSFUL BLOOD DONATION DRIVE

‘The highest form of service to humanity is to save a life’. As a part of its community welfare drive, DPS-Modern Indian School, in collaboration with Hamad Medical Centre (HMC), hosted a blood donation campaign in its premises on 13th April, 2017. A brief session, prior to the donation campaign, was organized on 10th April, 2017 to inform the staff members about the eligibility criteria for blood donation and its benefits to one’shealth. The day-long campaign was well- received and saw active participation from 122 staff members who registered for the noble cause.

‘Blood donation is a simple way to make a big difference. DPS-MIS family, adhering to its motto ‘Service Before Self’ always believes in giving back to the society in a larger way. The spirit of humanity with an initiative to save a life created an aura of positivity in the compound and taught the young minds to be compassionate, empathetic and true human beings. Hamad Medical Centre appreciated the overwhelming response shown by DPS-MIS staff, wherein they were able to receive 61 units of blood.

DPS-MIS WINS OVERALL CHAMPIONSHIP IN CBSE QATAR CLUSTER CHESS

TOURNAMENT

DPS-Modern Indian School bagged the overall championship in the CBSE Qatar Cluster Chess Tournament in Boys’ category held on May 11th and 16th, 2017 at Bhavan’s Public School. DPS–MIS chess masters secured the first position in under – 14 Boys, under – 14 Girls and under – 11 Boys and clinched to the third place in under-19 Boys and Girls categories.

DPS-MIS BAGS STELLAR RECOGNITION IN QATAR CLUSTER TABLE TENNIS

COMPETITION

DPS Modern Indian School’s table tennis boys’ and girls’ teams won the overall Championship in CBSE Qatar Cluster Table Tennis Competition 2017 -18.The competition was conducted in three age categories i.e. Under-14, Under-17 and Under-19 for both boys and girls. DPS-MIS Boys team in Under –19 was the outright winner, Under –14 & 17 Boys teams secured runners up position, whereas Under – 14, 17 & 19 Girls teams, were declared second runners- up in their respective categories.

THE DPS-MIS SWIMMERS TRIUMPHED IN

CBSE QATAR CLUSTER SWIMMING COMPETITION HOSTED BY DPS – MODERN INDIAN SCHOOL. THEY

BAGGED THE CHAMPIONSHIP IN UNDER – 11, UNDER – 19 BOYS CATEGORY AND UNDER – 17 GIRLS’ CATEGORY.

Workshop on “Let’s Redefine Learning”

The coordinators of DPS Modern Indian School, attended a workshop on “Strategies and tools to Monitor Active Learning in the Classroom” -under the aiges of Qatar Chapter - on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Birla Public School. The workshop was conducted by Ms. Asllesha Thakur, Resource person (LEAD Innovation pvt ltd.)

The resource person discussed about the different strategies and ways of actively involving the students in the learning process like Find someone

She also focused on the concept of Active Class: - Difference between active learning and activity based learning.

These strategies can be included in the class for everyday teaching to ensure that the teaching process for students is very interesting, easy to comprehend and always lively.

It was definitely an enriching experience for all.
