Photograph, full length portrait, the Female subject in long, flowing lace trimmed
dress and adorned with a bracelet on each wrist and also wearing rings and large
oval locket suspended by a silk tie, the lower outer margin with Caldesi & Co.
stamp and the bottom margin named in blue ink (probably Alice Hay?) and dated
August 1865. The image 41cm x 25cm. Born in Italy, Caldesi lived and worked in
England in partnership with Montecchi and later with Blandford, Caldesi
produced many early photographs of art treasures in English collections and
among his best known are the Photographs of the Gems of the Art Treasures
Exhibition held in Manchester. In 1857, Caldesi and Partner were summoned to
Osborne on the Isle of Wight to undertake a series of Photographs of the Royal
Children.
