NEED TO KNOW
● Today’s lesson is flexible and open-ended. There are a variety of activities that you can choose to do in the way that works best for your room.
STATION TIME | 40+ Minutes
● Spend time in small groups doing a mix of Christmas themed games and activities!
LARGE GROUP | 20 Minutes
● Watch an extended video compilation of different Christmas videos.
LARGE GROUP
● Break into small groups and put up today’s Connect Question Timer on the screen. Go around and let each kid say their name and your favorite Christmas song. Then discuss the connect question until the timer’s up.
● Connect Question: What’s the best surprise you’ve ever gotten?
● Say: Welcome to Kids’ Club, we’re so glad you’re here! We want this to be a safe and fun place for you. To do that, let’s all commit to doing a few things:
○ Show respect to each other○ Listen when someone else is speaking○ Have fun!
● Ask: We all love surprises, right? Well today, we’re talking about the best surprise that’s ever been given, or ever WILL be given: Jesus! So here’s today’s BIG IDEA.
● Slide: Jesus was the best surprise ever! ● Say: We’re going to watch an extended video that has all different kinds of
Christmas stories in it, and how Jesus’s birth was the most unexpected and wonderful surprise ever.
● Video: A Very Merry Kids’ Club Christmas (16 minutes)● Say: Wow, that was a pretty cool way to hear about how Jesus was born!
The entire Christmas season is about how Jesus came to the world to rescue us, and forgive us for all the wrong choices that we make. He came to show us how much God loves us. He came to change the world, and bring us close to God again. And that is way better than any present we can ever receive!
● Say: For the rest of today, we’re going to be playing games and doing all kinds of fun Christmas activities! So let’s get started!

Jesus was the best surprise
ever!
LARGE GROUP STATION TIME
Activities can be played in any of the following ways. Choose what works best for your room:
● Station Style: Set up each station in a different area of the room, and have a leader facilitating each activity. You may want to designate a whole corner of the room or multiple tables for each “station”. Split kids into small groups, and help them rotate between the 4 stations.
● Small Group Style: Split kids into small groups, and give each group the supplies for all four activities. Each small group can stay in one location and rotate through each activity with their leader.
● Large Group + Small Group Style: The first two activities can easily be done as one large group, or in small groups. This way, a leader can direct the room as a whole for some of the activities, then facilitate small groups for the rest of the activities.
● Play the Christmas music mix timer while groups are doing their activities (it’s a total of 40 minutes, but you can start over if needed).
● Give groups about 10 minutes per activity.● If you want to keep it more flexible, let groups move through the activities at a
pace that works for them.

ACTIVITY/STATION TIME | 40+ Minutes
Activity 1: Game Show● Gather kids in a central area, and hold the Game Show Question Page.● The question page is full of trivia questions and “would you rather” scenarios, and each has two
possible answers. Point to one side of your small group area (or the whole room) for one answer, and the other side of the area for the second answer. Let kids choose which answer they think is correct (or which they prefer) by walking to the corresponding side.
● For a more active challenge, you could have kids do a funny action as they move (hopping, skipping, twirling, walking backwards, crawling, walking on your knees, doing a Fortnite dance, etc.)
Activity 2: Charades (play one or more of the following game variations)● Shuffle the deck of Charade cards and set them in a pile facedown. Let each kid pull a card and
silently act it out, while the rest of the group tries to guess what it is. ● Split the group into two teams. Split the deck of Christmas Charade cards and set them in a
pile for each team. On your mark, one kid from each team should take a card from the pile and silently act it out for their team to guess. See which team can get through all their cards first!
● Instead of one kid acting out for the rest of the group, let the WHOLE group act out a card while one kid guesses!
Activity 3: Snowflakes ● Give each kid three pieces of white paper. Set out markers, scissors and snowflake
example pages to show kids how to fold and cut paper snowflakes! One side has instructions for an easier 4-sided snowflake, and one side has instructions for the harder 6-sided snowflake.
● They can make up to three snowflakes, and can color and decorate them however they like.
Activity 4: Challenge Cards● Each kid will get one of four possible Christmas Challenge cards for this activity. To prepare,
get a variety of cards from the bin for your group (try to get a mix of different cards, however, there doesn’t have to be a specific number of each card, etc.)
● Lay all the cards facedown on the table (there should be one card for each kid).● Tell kids that they’ll each pick a challenge card that has a special Christmas challenge for us to do
this week (including you, the leader!) Let them each pick one card at random.● Let kids discuss each other’s cards and share with the group: How do you feel about your
challenge? When and how will you do it? (As a leader, challenge and encourage the kids to follow through and complete their challenge. Make sure to take a card yourself, and tell the kids how you plan to do it!)
Do a Nativity Mural! ● Give your group a large sheet of tear off paper and markers and let them work together to
recreate a scene of Jesus’ birth (Mary, Joseph, baby Jesus, three wise men, shepherds, angels, donkeys, cows, sheep, etc.)
● Give kids a maze, or a word-search activity sheet to work on until their parents pick them up.
