Shout Out from Fr. Adams
ADVENT
We begin the sacred season of Advent today. The
word comes from Latin “adventus” which means
“coming”. We focus on the coming of Jesus at the
time of the Incarnation—when the “Word was made
flesh”. We usually say “Christmas”. We also focus
on the coming of Jesus at the end of time when he
“will judge the living and the dead”. We lastly celebrate
his coming in every moment of our life. He is present with
us through our baptism, in the Mass, every time we go to
confession and forgive and love someone. But let’s be
real clear—the final end of this month of Advent is
“Christmas”. Don’t forget the meaning of the word
“Christmas”. It comes from “the Mass of Christ.” Yes, the
heart of Christmas is not Santa Claus, it is not more stuff
to pile up under the tree, it is not just no school for a cou-
ple weeks or some vacation in warm weather or whatever
floats your boat! It is JESUS in the Mass. Tradition has it
that Jesus was born at midnight. He is the light of the
world, not Buddha, not Mohamed, not you and not me.
Sure Jesus loves us all and yes presents and vacation are
nice things in December/January. We also respect all
those of other faiths. But there is “one name under which
we are saved.” Let’s not give into the godless approach
of this sacred time and schedule Mass last or not at all!
But get that on your calendar now—which Christmas Mass
will you all go to as a family? When will you get to confes-
sion to give Jesus the best birthday present of a pure
heart? When will you pray each day in quiet hopeful wait-
ing for his coming? God bless.

ADVIENTO
Comenzamos la temporada sagrada de Adviento. La
palabra proviene del latín “adventus” que significa
“venir”. Nos enfocamos en la venida de Jesús en el
momento de la Encarnación, cuando la "Palabra se
hizo carne". Usualmente decimos "Navidad". Tam-
bién nos enfocamos en la venida de Jesús al final de
los tiempos cuando "juzgará a los vivos ya los muertos".
Finalmente celebramos su venida en cada momento de
nuestra vida. Él está presente con nosotros a través de
nuestro bautismo, en la Misa, cada vez que vamos a confe-
sarnos, perdonar y amar a alguien. Pero seamos muy cla-
ros: el final de este mes de Adviento es "Navidad". No olvi-
des el significado de la palabra "Navidad". Viene de "la Mi-
sa de Cristo". Sí, el corazón de la Navidad no es Santa
Claus, no son más cosas para amontonar debajo del árbol,
no es simplemente no ir a la escuela durante un par de
semanas o unas vacaciones en un clima cálido o ¡lo que
haga flotar tu bote! Es JESÚS en la Misa. La tradición dice
que Jesús nació a medianoche. Él es la luz del mundo, no
Buda, no Mohamed, ni tú ni yo. Claro que Jesús nos ama a
todos y sí, los regalos y las vacaciones son cosas agrada-
bles en diciembre / enero. También respetamos todos los
de otras religiones. Pero hay "un nombre bajo el cual so-
mos salvos". ¡No cedamos ante el enfoque impío de este
tiempo sagrado y programemos la misa al final o no!

asistirán todos en familia? ¿Cuándo te confesarás para
darle a Jesús el mejor regalo de cumpleaños de un corazón
puro? ¿Cuándo orarás cada día en silencio y esperanzado

back of church. Donations can be put in the col-

Ignatius of Loyola. This is a way of personally meeting Je-
sus in the scripture and praying with your imagination. We
do not empty our mind, we engage it. Do you have trouble
with distractions? This series is for you. Please bring a note-
book for journaling. All women and men are invited. The
dates we will meet are Nov. 25, Dec. 2, 9, 16, Jan. 6 and 13.

St. Andrew Christmas Novena
The novena to St. Andrew is traditionally known as the
Christmas Novena. Beginning on St. Andrew the
Apostle's feast day, November 30, the beautiful
prayer is traditionally recited fifteen times a day until
Christmas. It is used as preparation for the Lord’s
birth and the joyous Christmas Season. Historically,
this persistent prayer has been used to request special help
from St. Andrew for any cause.
Hail and blessed be the hour and moment In which the Son
of God was born of the most pure Virgin Mary at midnight, in
Bethlehem, in the piercing cold. In that hour vouchsafe, I
beseech Thee, O my God, to hear my prayer and grant my
desires, [here mention your request] through the merits of
Our Savior Jesus Christ and of His blessed Mother. Amen.
Novena de Navidad de San Andrés
La novena de san Andrés es tradicionalmente conoci-
da cono la novena de navidad. A partir de la fiesta de
san Andrés apóstol, el 30 de noviembre, tradicional-
mente la oración se recita quince veces al día hasta la
navidad. Se utiliza como preparación para el naci-
miento del Señor y la feliz temporada navideña. Histó-
ricamente, esta oración persistente se ha utilizado para soli-
citar ayuda especia l a san Andrés para cualquier causa.
