GETTING ACQUAINTED WITH AQUINAS
Next Saturday, December 21st, we will be preparing the
Shrine for this year’s Christmas festivities. The first wave of
decoration will take place after the 8am Mass and breakfast,
when the Boys Group and Dads will set up the trees and the
nativity. Sursum Corda and Helpers of the Holy Family are
invited to help with the second wave: lunch, decorations, and
clean-up. Your help is very much appreciated. All volunteers
are welcome. Join us and help “Prepare the way of the Lord!”
HELP US DECORATE FOR CHRISTMAS
Dear Faithful of the Shrine of Christ the King,
From the pilgrimage sanctuary and convent of Maria Engelport in Germany, I send to you all my best Advent greetings. These religious buildings having recently been acquired by our Institute, the novices of our growing community of Sisters Adorers will soon be moving in. This Advent is then a particularly special time of preparation both spiritual as well as material.
For some time now I have been planning to spend the Christmas holidays with you at our dear Shrine of Christ the King in Chicago. Our Canons have been keeping me well informed of the autumn activities, and I am very happy with the progressive growth in our spiritual family at the Shrine. However, my duties as Vicar General of our worldwide Institute also require me to be available to assist our Canons in important situations which may urgently arise. Such is now the case in Africa, where our Canons work very hard under difficult conditions, and thus it is now unexpectedly necessary for me to be present there in our African missions for the upcoming Christmas festivities.
Sincerely I regret not having the opportunity to share this high point of the Church's liturgical year with you at the Shrine this time. However, please be assured that we will nevertheless be united spiritually through the various solemn liturgies of the Nativity and the Epiphany of Our Lord Jesus Christ the King. I look forward to my return to Chicago sometime early in the New Year and to having the opportunity to greet you then.
Promising to remember you and your intentions at God's holy altar, I assure you of my best wholehearted wishes for a merry Christmas and a blessed New Year and remain,
Yours faithfully, in Christ the King,
Monsignor R. Michael Schmitz
