You may be wondering what exactly a Winter Maintenance Event is? Well, it’s not a special celebration, but rather the City’s function of cleaning and keeping our streets safe from pre and post winter fl ash storms.
Residents are reminded that from December 1 to March 31 each year, parking of a vehicle on any street or part of a street within the City of Barrie between the hours of 12 midnight and 7 a.m. is prohibited and subject to a $30.00 fi ne ($20.00 early payment).
Within the Downtown Business Improvement Area, on-street parking is prohibited between the hours of 3 a.m. and 6 a.m.
Notwithstanding these provisions, the City of Barrie can at anytime declare a “winter maintenance event.” Notice of such declaration will be communicated through the media and parking will be prohibited as specifi ed in the Notice.
Any vehicle found parked in contravention of By-law 2007-209 may be ticketed and/or towed.
By keeping the City streets clear of vehicles during this period, you allow the City crews access to help ensure that your roadways are maintained and that large emergency vehicles can get downthe street. The City will be out ensuring that anyone violating these regulations may be subject to a fi ne or other action.
The City of Barrie greatly appreciates your cooperation in helping to keep the City streets clean and safe during the winter season. For more information on Winter Maintenance Events or Winter Control, please visit barrie.ca/WinterControl.

Downtown – FREE2:00pm – 3:30pmMark your calendar and join Dave Yawney,
as he presents the Rajasthan region of India.
Although the Taj Mahal of Agra is the "romantic"
destination, there are also great treasures to
be found in the cities of Jaipur (the pink City),
Jodhpur (the blue City), and Udaipur (the lake
palace). There is also magic in the fairy tale city
of Jaisalmer, looking like a giant sand castle
fort on the hill adjacent to the Thar Desert.
There will be a digital slide presentation
followed by an opportunity to ask questions.
We are just days away before Barrie
gets ready to wave goodbye to 2014
and cheer in 2015 with the 17th Annual
Downtown Countdown at City Hall. Once
again, Barrie partners up with Rock 95 and
107.5 Kool FM to continue what has become
a holiday season tradition, growing into one
of Central Ontario’s largest New Year’s Eve
events of free fun and entertainment for the
whole family.
Just like previous years, Barrie lives up to its
reputation of lining up great entertainment
with top performers that will get both the
young and young at heart up and dancing.
Two-time Juno Award winner, Fred Penner,
will start off the night’s events. Fred Penner
has a 30 year career in the music industry,
establishing himself as a fundamental family
entertainer and has been awarded 2 Junos
recognizing his talent. He is a four-time
recipient of the Parents' Choice Award for his
creative ways of sharing his positivity through
CDs, videos, books and television, including
12 seasons of the hit CBC show 'Fred Penner's
Place’. Families are invited to come inside the
City Hall Rotunda following his performance
for a meet & greet.
Next, folks will be tapping their feet to The
Alpacas, a local Barrie four piece rock and roll
band featuring Nick Harper, Greg Lee, Brett
Garner, and Brent Lee. Looking to create good
time vibes and entertainment, you can be
assured of some unique tunes for everyone to
enjoy. The Alpacas live show is one you won’t
want to miss!
Topping the evening, Barrie welcomes one
of Canada’s best rock acts, winner of the 2008
Juno for Best Rock Album of the Year, Finger
Eleven. With many successful hits in Canada
and the U.S. including 'One Thing' and 'Paralyzer,'
you can expect to hear some recognizable
songs and some new ones, as they're currently
recording their 6th album. You can count on
an amazing live show to wrap-up 2014 and
bring in the New Year.
Activities
In addition to some great entertainment
on the stage, Barrie has some fun activities
planned for the whole family to enjoy
including:
• Skating on the Circle at the Centre rink
– bring your skates!
• Horse-drawn wagon rides
• Fire performers
• Indoor family fun zone: Clarabella the
Clown, face painting, balloon animals,
