WAIT FOR THE LORD

Everything is building toward Christmas, but our season now is Advent, not Christmas.

Advent is the time before December 25th. Christmas begins on Christmas Day and last well into the new year. Advent is a time to wait for Christmas, and there are many ways for us to wait. Wait until as close a possible to Christmas Day before decorating your home. That way you won’t be bored with the decorations by the time Christmas finally comes. During Advent you can get the decorations ready. Maybe you can make decorations for others to surprise them at Christmas. Plan to turn your Christmas lights on and to light your tree for the first time on Christmas Eve. That way, you will create a great burst of light all at once to welcome Christ. Advent is a time to plan and prepare.

LIFE TOGETHER

REMEMBER ST. JEAN VIANNEY PARISH IN YOUR WILL

If this parish has meaning to you and your family, then please consider remembering St. Jean Vianney Parish in your will. Call Fr. Tom for information. (753.7950)

Dear Friends, Thank you for your Prayer Stewardship made this weekend. It seems an easy thing to ask of any Catholic that you commit to pray. Yet, in all of our lives prayer can become a “time issue”, meaning that “I don’t have enough” conditions the prayer I do. I’d suggest that one way to deal with this condition is to rethink how prayer can happen. A person can pray at every Red light; or in the shower; or when reading the newspaper. A person can pray a short litany like “come Lord Jesus” when faced with worries. A person can pray the rosary while exercising. The opportunities to pray are many if we develop a consciousness of wanting to be in the presence of God. Ask God for the grace of being a prayerful person. At the end of this week is the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. There will be two Masses for the feast day, which is a Holy Day of Obligation: 6:30pm Vigil on December 7th and 8:30am Mass on December 8th. The Vigil Mass on Saturday, December 8th, is for the Second Sunday of Advent. During the Advent season there will be many opportunities for you to experience the Sacrament of Reconciliation: On Monday December 3rd and 17th from 6:00-7:00pm in Church; On Tuesday December 11th at 7:00pm will be the Advent Penance Service; and on Wednesdays of Advent, December 5th,12th, & 19th from 6:00-7:30pm at St. George, St. Aloysius, and Our Lady of Mercy. I hope you will take advantage of these many offerings during Advent. I hope you have entered Advent peacefully. God bless. Love,

ADORATION “NOT JUST ANOTHER MEETING”

All are invited on Tuesdays to continue their worship and love of God at adoration. It is a visit, not a meeting. A visit of ‘love to love’. Bring whatever is in your heart and soul and leave it at the feet of the Lord for HE will be at yours. “Adoration for the Blessed Sacrament is the best time you will spend on earth”. -Mother Theresa Join us every Tuesday evening at 7:00pm for Eucharistic Adoration. Taking special time with our Lord is a great way to grow closer to Him.

Parishioners Join Together Baton Rouge for Gilbert Cemetery Community Cleanup

Eight St. Jean Vianney parishioners from our parish’s Just Faith group joined other church groups and community members Saturday morning, Nov. 17th, for Together Baton Rouge's community clean-up of Gilbert Memorial Park Cemetery. The ceme-tery, located off Greenwell Springs Road, had fallen into disrepair, with grave sites choked by grass and weeds. Many memorial plaques were so covered in dirt and debris, they were unrecognizable. Adminis-trative changes are taking place to bring Gilbert Cemetery under new management; but, in the meantime, TBR asked volunteers to assist in clean-ing the area so when family members come there to remember those they loved, they can do so in a beautiful place. Volunteers spent three hours weeding, removing tree limbs, picking up trash, brushing dust and dirt away, and arranging flowers at the grave sites. At the end of the morning, the sunshine and beautiful fall weather surrounded a lovely and tranquil area, where the relatives of those at eternal rest in Gilbert Cemetery can truly feel they are at peace. Together Baton Rouge plans to have future cleanup events at Gilbert Memorial Park Cemetery and oth-er cemeteries in the area that need this service. If you wish to volunteer next time, please inquire at [email protected].

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY NEWS THE GIVING TREE Our Advent Giving Tree is located in church near the Sacristy. Each family wanting to participate in this outreach ministry is asked to take an ornament from the Giving Tree and prepare their gift for the person described. It is important that the gifts be returned under the tree by December 9th. The ornaments will provide an opportunity for us to reach out to those persons facing the holidays with inadequate funds, those who are ill or homebound, and those preparing to receive the sacraments. Please offer your prayers for these individuals during this holiday season.
