The Herald’s annual Christmas Celebra-tion concert on Dec 8th. was a tremen-dous success. We had more attendees than previous years, despite a change in date and a different venue. Work-ing through some unique challenges of shortened setup time and limited op-

portunity for on-site rehearsal, the chorus members (and guest performers) stepped up in an impressive and grati-fying effort to provide a wonderful show for our patrons. It took a true team effort to get everything (seating, stage decorations, lighting, sound, etc.) ready. Special thanks to the show team and everyone who helped out – way too many names to list!

Reflecting on the past year, the Heralds had an eventful 2019. We had several talented singers join our Chapter, with positive impact on our overall sound and perfor-mance level. In addition to the Christmas show, we per-formed for audiences in the Villages, Palm Harbor, Tam-pa, Largo, and Lake City. Add the International Chorus contest in Salt Lake City, plus National Anthem perfor-mances for the Clearwater Threshers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and it was a very busy year. 2020 is shaping up to be quite eventful as well.

As my tenure as President comes to a close, and I “pass the gavel” to President-elect Arne Helbig, I look forward to con-tinued success for the Tampa Chapter in the years ahead. Thanks to the Board, our Director, and the members of this wonderful organization for your support. It’s Great to be a Herald!

A Christmas Celebration 2019

Something new, lots of tradition. That’s one way to sum up out Christmas Show on December 8th. The “new” included a new location, Lake Magdalene United Methodist Church, a different start time and a Sunday performance. The traditional things were, well, everything else.

The Heralds sang for a packed house and with the help of special guests the Gaither High School Concert Chorus, One Voice (from Haiti), Sarah Whittemore, Bourbon Brothers and various ensembles, presented a varied and most enjoyable program. In the second half of the show the Heralds told the Christmas Story as only they can, and as one attend said afterwards, “That was the best I’ve heard the chorus sing in years!”

“Friends of the Heralds” (FOH) is a fund-raising pro-gram that is an important part of the Heralds yearly operating budget. Our mission is to preserve and further develop a cappella singing through musical ex-cellence. FOH was established to help sustain Heralds of Harmony financial needs as we increase the number of singers on the risers and continue to improve our musical performance.

We are a non-profit organization supported by our performance ticket sales, dues and grants. Under the direction of Tony De Rosa, we will continue to offer the best musical and entertainment experience for our audience. In 2019, we placed 8th in the world at the International Chorus Competition of the Barbershop Harmony Society.

Just as importantly, our chorus has seen a growth in youth members, bringing our total to more than 14 men under the age of 30.

We wish to thank the donors listed on this page for their generous contributions in 2019.

If you would like to support us, donation cards are available in the lobby, make your check payable to “Heralds of Harmony” and mail to: P.O. Box 274076, Tampa, FL 33688-4076. BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETINGSThe next Board Meeting is scheduled for November 19, 2019.

Minutes to Board Meetings are available to all members on the ‘Members Section’ of the website. Board Meetings are typically held online and open to all members. If you are interested in attending, you can obtain the link and sign-in

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS Knowing words and notes on ALL current repertoire is the most basic

of musical commitments we make when joining the Heralds of Harmony.

While we are cognizant that this is (at heart) an individual commitment, the entire Music Team has agreed to collective-ly manage all to achieve a standard of being FULLY QUALIFIED on our current repertoire on a timely basis.

FULLY QUALIFIED DEFINITION: Every member of the Performing Chorus is expected to know 100% of notes and words on current repertoire (as well as any breath points assigned by Tony, or marked in the score) by the assigned “learn by date”.

See you at our first rehearsal of 2020 is January 13th.Please work on A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square!
