“As a bridegroom rejoices in his bride so shall your God rejoice in you.” Is 62:5
It can be very difficult to understand and accept the will of God in our lives. How could Mary have accepted what she was being asked to do if not for her great humility and faith - and the appearance of the Angel Gabriel? How could Joseph possibly have believed Mary’s expla-nation for her pregnancy if not for the angelic message received in a dream? But most of us don’t have the benefit of such miraculous appearances, whether in dreams or daylight!
But every once in a while, we are blessed with little signs of God’s presence. God chooses these moments for each of us, although He may wait until our hearts are ready to receive His gift. Although Jesus reminds us not to seek after signs, I think He knows our human hearts well enough to understand our need to some-times see those little miracles that build up our hope and faith.
It’s easy to miss those miraculous moments. An atheis-tic friend of mine once told me about going to a Mid-night Mass on Christmas Eve with her mother. She was deeply moved by the concert of Christmas hymns be-fore the Mass. As she listened, tears streamed down her face. Yet, she was not ready to recognize the source of her overwhelming emotion. She credited the moment to music’s power, not God’s. I hoped that this glimpse of God’s glory had opened her heart to believe, but her eyes remained firmly closed to His existence and His love for her.
This Christmas, take special notice of all the little mira-cles that are taking place around you. See the miracle in the manger: a little Child who seems so much like us, but is so miraculously God-with-us. Hear the miracle in the Christmas songs, see the miracle in the eyes of a newborn baby, touch the miracle in the melting cold of a snowflake on your fingertip. Don’t let these moments pass by unseen. God is sending a message to you alone; you are His Beloved.
Sunday Reflection
SURVIVING DIVORCE: New sessions begin at Christ the King Church on Monday, January 22, 2018 from 6:30 – 8:30 pm in the lower level of the Youth Center. Come join others who have experienced separation and divorce. In this video series, Rose Sweet, Catholic au-thor, speaker, and pastoral counselor, tackles the pain and suffering of divorce from her own experience and that of the Catholic Church. Joined by a group of distin-guished priests and professionals who have dedicated their lives to helping people understand and cope with loss and grief, they will guide you through the shock, anger, denial, and emotional upheaval of separation and divorce. Questions? Contact [email protected] (509-940-1021) or Elizabeth at 509-420-4509.

Praying portions of the Divine Office
Christmas is celebrated for eight days, and the Christ-mas season lasts until the Epiphany. During this time join the Church in praying the following intercessions from the Christmas Offices:
• You were born into poverty and lowliness, look with favor on the poor and comfort them.
• You are the true vine that brings forth the fruit of life; make us branches of the vine, bearing much fruit.
• King from all eternity, you desired to be born within time and to experience the day-to-day life of men and women, share your gift of unending life with us, weak people, doomed to death.
• You came to earth to lead everyone into the king-dom, share your life of glory with those who have died.
Give praise to God the Father as you ponder these Psal-ter and Gospel antiphons for Mary Mother of God:
• Mary has given birth to a King whose name is ever-lasting; hers the joy of motherhood, hers the vir-gin’s glory. Never was the like seen before, never shall it be seen again, alleluia.
• Marvelous is the mystery proclaimed today: man’s nature is made new as God becomes man; he re-mains what he was and becomes what he was not. Yet each nature stays distinct and forever undivid-ed.
• O marvelous exchange! Man’s creator has become man, born of a virgin. We have been made sharers in the divinity of Christ who humbled himself to share in our humanity.

Spiritual Practices
Ignatian Spirituality
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from SEEL Tri-Cities! While you’re making New Year’s resolutions, consider strengthening your prayer life through the Spiritual Exercises. We begin a new session each September, so you’ll have nine months to prepare. If you participate in the Exercises, you’ll learn how to pray in many new ways including contemplation, meditation, and imaginative prayer. Best of all, you’ll be assigned a spiritual director who can accompany you through your journey. Deepen your year of faith through the Spiritual Exercises. Think about it. Pray about it. If God is calling you, we'll see you in September.
For those who are participating in the Spiritual Exercises this year, our next group meeting will be Saturday, January 13 from 9:30 a.m. to noon. The theme will be the Two Standards. To learn more about SEEL please visit http://spiritual-exercises.com. Alums are always welcome.

Pope Francis on Twitter
“We become holy when we work for others. When we do so, we continue the creative action of God in history.” December 16, 2017
Evening prayers for peace are said in the chapel on Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. Prayers from the breviary are led by members of the Social Justice and Peace Com-mittee. In a world rampant with violence, Pope Francis calls us to follow the nonviolent way of Jesus. Can you spare a half-hour before dinner?

CK Justice and Peace Committee- Regarding DACA
In a message from Bishop Tyson, Central Washington Catholic, Nov. 2017, the Bishop says “Pro-life immigra-tion policies demand respect for women, respect for the unity of the family, and care for our many youth here in the Diocese of Yakima whose presence is threatened by the question of DACA revocation and care for their un-documented parents.”
The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) pro-gram has enabled 17,000 young people in Washington State, who were brought to the United States as undoc-umented children, to meet criteria and pay fees to apply for the DACA program which protects them from depor-tation and allows them to enroll in college and to get work permits.
In September 2017, President Trump announced the termination of the DACA program. If Congress does not pass legislation by March 5, these young students/working professionals will be at risk of deportation. Legislation to protect DACA recipients and to provide a path to legal citizenship is needed so they can get on with their lives.
Please call Rep. Dan Newhouse (202-225-5816) and Sens. Maria Cantwell (202-224-3441) and Patty Murray (202-224-2621) who support this protective legislation. Thank them and ask them to continue to actively sup-port the clean DREAM act.
