Dear Parishioners,

I hope all of you are still having a wonderful celebration of Christmas. This Sunday between Christmas and New Years is dedicated to the Holy Family and provides, therefore, a timely perspective for our Christmas celebrations: the FAMILY. For some that word induces deep happiness, for others a sense of frustration. However wonderful or imperfect our family is, it’s still ours - and God’s gift to us. Family is a powerful relationship that teaches us a great deal about the love and mercy of God.

January 1, New Years Day is a holy day of obligation. There are three Masses: New Year’s Eve at 4:00 p.m. and New Year’s Day 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

As the year ends, I want to share with you a great financial blessing to our Parish this year. A number of gener- ous souls have remembered the Parish and School in their wills. These contributions have made a great difference with us being able to pay our bills. In your prayers, please remember: Louis Bednar, Dolores Bressler, Bertha Chapman, Marcy Hopkin, Mary Hawthorne and Florence St. Clair.

May the New Year of 2013 hold many blessings for you and all your loved ones.

Fr. BobARISE TO GLOR Y Please remember in your Masses and prayers the souls of James Thompson, Ronald Tuccinard and all the faithful departed. May they rest in peace.

We are thankful for the donations made to the WE CARE FUN D in memory of Ted Konetsky by Frank and Barbara Laughlin, Jane Balint, Paul and Donna Underiner and Pam and Gary Hummel; in memory of Fr. Julian Morgan, C.P. by Frank and Barbara Laughlin and Paul and Donna Under- iner; in memory of Dianna Italia by John, Amy, Roman and Giovanni Italia. We are also grateful for the donation made to the ANGEL FUND in memory of Frances Sebastian by Bruce and Barbara Carney.

Chad and Mary Ann Schweitzer, members of the THEOLO- GY ON TAP team will speak on the day-to-day joys and tri- als of marriage and how the sacredness of marriage can be restored in this world if your priorities are straight. They will meet on Thursday, January 3, at Bert’s Wooden Indian from 7:00-9:00 p.m. What does it mean to be a Catholic couple and love one another? It’s as simple and as difficult as that. Check out our Facebook page and email theolo- [email protected] or check our website at www.Theologyontapbc.org or call Mary Ann at 724-846-7540 for any questions.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS BASKETBALL FREE THRO W will be held Saturday, January 26, 2013 at the SSPeter and Paul Gymnasium. Boys and girls ages 10 to 14 areeligible to participate. Registration will be held from 11 a.m.to 12 noon with the competition starting at 12:00 p.m. Anyquestions, please contact Paul LoMagro at 724-312-0023.

HOME IS WHERE THE FAMILY IS

The idea, dream, and reality of family is so strong and durable that we use it to describe all that is best about human gatherings. We speak of the family of nations, of our church and parish families. The greatest compliment we can pay a friend or gracious host is to say that we feel at home with them, we feel part of the family.

Families are the first crucibles in which love is tested and tempered. Jesus himself was one of three people who lived in the shadow of each other. This family, like our own, did not always “get it right,” but they always tried to. These three “amateurs” were on holiday, and one of them got lost. Two were worried sick and took great measures to find the third, a boy after all, who was seeking the meaning of his calling. He found his vocation—to do his Father’s work—but he also returned home with his parents.Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Mission Statement Rough Draft

SS. Peter and Paul Parish, the first Roman Catholic Par- ish in Beaver County, Pennsylvania has proclaimed the Gospel of Jesus Christ since 1830.

Then and now, because of our deep devotion to the Eucha- ristic celebration, we aspire to be a caring community, drawing from the strength and long local traditions of our predecessors, the wisdom of our senior members, and the energy of our young members.

Mindful of ever changing times, we strive to become a beacon of faith, welcome and service to one another and the surrounding community.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE by Bud Ozar.

Today’s gospel contains this truth about parenting: “but his parents did not know.” One of the reasons parenting is so difficult is because our children don’t tell us everything. If the Holy Family had trouble with their teenager, why do we think it will be easier for us?
