Dear Parishioners,

Advent is here! In the midst of one of the most hectic and busiest time of the year for families, the Church invites us to prayerfully reflect, listen and prepare our hearts as we prepare our homes. Is this conflict here? Is the Church unrealistic? No, of course not - for the busier we are the more we need prayer. Our religion can help us stay grounded in the midst of so much frenzy. The Advent call helps us to remember what this preparation is really all about.

This coming Saturday, December 8, is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. Under this title, Mary is Pa- troness of the United States; therefore, this is a holy day of oblig a tion. We have 4 masses: Vigil Friday, December 7 at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, December 8, at 8:00 a.m., 9:15 a.m. and 12 noon.

During Advent there will be extra opportunities for the Sacrament of Penance. Here at Saints Peter and Paul:1) every Wednesday evening December 5, 12, and 19, after 7:00 p.m. Mass (7:30-8:00 pm); 2) Friday afternoons, De-cember 14 and 21, (noon-1:00 pm); 3) Thursday, December 20, 7:00 p.m. (there will be 5 priests available for confes-sion) and of course, the usual Saturday times.

As mentioned during my “State of the Union” homily, I present for your reflection and prayer a proposed Mis- sion Statement for Sts. Peter and Paul Parish. The Pastoral Council and I used the insights we gained from the Parish Surveys to help form this Statement.

SS. Peter and Paul Parish, the first Roman Catholic Parish in Beaver County, Pennsylvania has proclaimed the Gospel of Jesus Christ since 1830

Then and now, because of our deep devotion to the Eucharistic celebration, we aspire to be a caring community, drawing from the strength and long local traditions of our predecessors, the wisdom of our senior members, and the energy of our young members.

Mindful of ever changing times, we strive to become a beacon of faith, welcome and service to one another and the surrounding community.

Fr. BobMUSIC D UR ING THE A DVENT SE A SO N As is our cus- tom during the Advent Season and the Lenten Season, the mass will begin with the Entrance Antiphon found in the read- ings for the week. The cantors will sing the antiphon and then everyone will sing the antiphon a second time. The antiphon corresponds directly to the readings of the day. Likewise, the communion antiphon will be sung in like manner before the cantors receive the most Holy Sacrament. As we have found in the past, by singing the proper antiphons during Advent when we get to the Christmas season (Christmas eve to the Baptism of Jesus), the restoration opening hymn becomes itself a Christmas gift.

Congratulations to CARLY KO Z A for being named Penn- sylvania’s Outstanding Young Woman for 2013. She was awarded four of five preliminary awards in scholarship and

achievement, interviews, performing arts, and presence and presentation. We join her parents, Kim and Catherine Koza, in being proud of her accomplishments. In the spring, as the state’s Outstanding Young Woman, she will address the state Senate.

BEAVER VALLEY CHORAL SOCIETY TO PERFORM IN OUR SANCTUARY! Thisfamed choral society will perform a stunning con-cert of sacred Advent and Christmas music in our

sanctuary on Sunday, December 9, at 4:00 p.m. Come, bring your family, including school aged children, your friends and acquaintances from other churches to this concert entitled “Never a Brighter Star” and be infused with awe-inspiring spiritual beauty of this Advent and Christmas season through the joy of choral music. There is no charge for attending the concert. Come early for best seating.
