Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Schedule

Saturday, December 24: 2 candlelight services with

Holy Communion at 5:30 and 11:00 p.m.

Sunday, December 25: worship will start at 10 a.m.,

with no Sunday School. Come celebrate Jesus’ birthday

from 10:00-11:00 before you go eat Christmas dinner.

(Because our radio time slot is 10:00-10:30, the order of

worship on Christmas will be different. We will not clutter

up our air time on WGRV with announcements and the

offering. )

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Last month I explained that on October 30, I would

ask the 4 generations to stand during the worship service.

After each generation stood one at a time, the Builders and

Boomers stood together, followed by the Busters and

Bridgers together. What were the results?

Those born before 1965: 70% of our people

Those born after 1964: 30% of our people

Then I thought about all the candles lit this year for

All Saints Day in memory of Trinity people who had died

during the past 12 months. It was nearly double from two

years ago.

Year All Saints candles lit

2009 7

2010 9

2011 13

We currently average 1 death a month. How many deaths

will Trinity average during the next 10, 15, 20 years, con-

sidering that over ½ of our congregation is in their 60s, 70s,

80s, or 90s?

In an attempt to reach those born after 1964 who

are not currently attending any church, our Call to Action

team voted to make these 3 things a priority:

1. Form small groups (and intentionally invite those who

are not in church) 2. Explore contemporary worship

3. Outreach to children and youth (including those not

currently attending Trinity)

DECEMBER 2011

To help with Call to Action, on January 6-7, 2012,

Trinity will host a workshop led by Eddie Hammett. He

wrote the book Reaching People Under 40 While Keeping

People Over 60. Churches in the Morristown, Kingsport,

Johnson City, and Knoxville Districts are invited, and

registration will be capped at 225 people.

Friday, January 6 is for clergy (7-9 p.m.), while

Saturday, January 7 is for everyone (9 a.m. - 3 p.m. with

lunch). Early bird registration is $20.00 (includes lunch) up

through December 15 (then it rises to $25 up through

January 5). In addition, the District Office has copies of

Hammett’s book for $17. If you want to attend this helpful,
