EXT. NEW YORK CITY - DAY

IT’S CHRISTMAS IN NEW YORK, BABY. Snow-kissed and radiant, the city is positively jingle jammin’ MERRY --

Golden lights strung across busy streets reflect in the

decked-out store windows --

Radio City Music Hall welcomes a foggy-breathed, ChristmasEve matinee crowd --

Starry-eyed kids marvel at the toy displays in FAO Shwartz;trains and stuffed animals and zippy flippy helicopters --

Romantic locals and tourists ride carriages through the freshCentral Park snow, smoochin’ and huggin’ and all --

Hands are held, songs are sung, and gifts are lovinglycarried. THIS IS JUST WONDERFUL. And of course...

EXT. ROCKEFELLER CENTER - CONTINUOUS

ROCKEFELLER. YES. Ice skating and hot chocolate and PURECHRISTMAS JOY!

Look at the TREE -- IT’S PERFECT, OH MY GOD. Like a beacon ofall things jingle-bringin’, it towers above the rink, trulygrandiose, as if decorated by Santa himself...

BECAUSE WAIT. NEXT TO THE TREE. Who’s this JELLY BELLY FELLAin a trench coat and fedora?

The figure smirks through a sip of his hot chocolate, lookingover the merriment with a Kringley twinkle in his eye.

Under the tree, A BIG STAGE and BANNER: Santa’s Christmas EveMerry-thon! Special Guest - SANTA! Dec. 24th! Tonight! Nice!

Stage hands and camera crews scurry around, prepping. Runningthe show though is DINKER, lanky and commanding -- Head Elf.

DINKERC’mon, people, we need North Pole

time, not New York time!

An INTERN rushes up to Dinker, frantic.

INTERNSir! One of the Lords-a-leapin’leaped onto Fifth Ave and got hitby a tour bus!

DINKERYou’ve got the part.

INTERNThanks, Dinklage!

DINKERDinker.

The intern doesn’t care, he gayly LEAPS away. Dinker bringshis HIGH-TECH CHRISTMAS WRIST WATCH to his mouth.

DINKER (CONT’D)(into the watch)

B, pick up our opening act.

The watch BEEP-BEEP-BEEPS like Jingle Bells.

EXT. DORM - CONTINUOUS

UP, UP, UP, past the many dorm windows decorated with thatcollege-student apathy, one window STANDS OUT and SLOWS US --

Red and green mini-bulbs expertly outline the whole frame, gold and silver garland make perfect accents -- and ofcourse, MISTLETOE hangs from inside... we MOVE IN, CLOSER...

THROUGH THE FESTIVE WINDOW...

INT. CHELSEA’S DORM - CONTINUOUS

To a totally DECKED-OUT dorm room, thanks to --

PETER BELL, 17 and panicked, sitting at a grand piano thatbarely fits in the room -- it clearly doesn’t belong here.Inconsolable, he slams on the keys with each...

PETERNo, no--

(hitting a right chord andsinging the right note)

Nooooooo!

He plays a flourish then SMACKS his head down onto the keys.

PETER (CONT’D)(muffled)

I gotta run it again.

From the small dorm bed pushed against the wall, comfy cozy with sheet music and a mug of hot chocolate, 18-year-oldCHELSEA WARSON watches with amused sympathy.

CHELSEA Dude, why?

Peter looks up, grim.

PETER

I almost messed up.

CHELSEA Oh jeez, Peter, you’re going torehearsal -- that’s what you do atrehearsal, you rehearse.

Peter jumps up, dramatic.

PETERChelsea, don’t you get it?!

CHELSEA

Yes.

PETERI’m opening for Santa Claus.

CHELSEA I get it.

PETEROn Christmas Eve-- tonight.

CHELSEA Totally get it.

PETERIt’s gotta be perfect, I, this, this is a chance to bring Christmasspirit to the whole world basicallyand it’s gotta be perfect and ohGOD.

He grabs her hot chocolate and chugs. Then gargles with it.

CHELSEA Take it easy. Hey.

She takes his face, makes him look at her -- he’s got stuffedchipmunk hot chocolate cheeks and a whipped cream mustache. He GULPS it down and relaxes a bit.

CHELSEA (CONT’D)(with the sheet music)

We worked hard on this. And you’rePeter Bell. This is what you do,joy-boy.

She wipes off the mustache.

CHELSEA (CONT’D)Why’d you even ask for my help?

PETER

Well ‘cause I wanted it to beperfect.

They share a butterfly-tummy smile.

Then, thanks to the window, in a perfectly blinking red n’green frame, mistletoe above, the two teens lean in for thebig kiss, MUSIC SWELLING, CHRISTMAS TREE NEARBY, NEW YORKCITY OUTSIDE, THIS IS SUPER ROMANTIC--

Then THUNK. They stop abruptly, look to the window...

A POLAR BEAR FACE is pressed all ugly against the glass. He

SQUEEKS to a different position, just as ugly, like anexcited dog. Then to another, tongue sloppin’ and floppin’around, breath fogging up the pane.

It’s decidedly not romantic.

Peter tries not to miss a beat.

PETER (CONT’D)Hey, Buddy.

He goes for the window, Chelsea blushes and fixes her hair.

And as soon as Peter opens the window -- SLUURRRRP, Buddydrags a big wet tongue up his smiling face.

PETER (CONT’D)Aw, easy.

He pats Buddy’s head. Dear old friends.

EXT. DORM - CONTINUOUS

Little feetsies kicking in the winter air, Buddy the Flying

Polar Bear can hardly contain himself as Peter hops on.

Then, not a second after Chelsea joins, Buddy TAKES OFFACROSS THE CITY!
