2. Click either create a new 2 year college or 4 year university admissions application, depending upon 

where you are applying 

 

3. Find the school you are looking to apply to and select it.  You will apply as a Freshman, U.S.

4.  Select Fall of 2016 as your semester of entry.  Take a picture with your phone of the address of the 

school and help phone number on the bottom of the page so you have a place to send your hard copy 

documents and a way to contact them.   

 

5. Choose your first and second choice college (school).  A college is a division of the university that has a 

collection of majors associated with it.  For example, the College of Engineering has all the 

engineering majors within it.  Please look to find what college your choice majors are associated with! 

Some schools may not have colleges, so skip to question 6.   

 

6. Select your top 2 majors.

***From this point on instructions will be given for any fields you need to fill out that there is information you 

may need to know or that can be tricky to fill out.  Have your resume, and personal information (social 

security number, financial information etc.) at the ready! 

Page 1 Fill out the following questions.  Social security number is not required, but if schools have it on file it is easier 

for them to not lose your application materials, so we suggest you supply your social security number.  A 

section is marked required in red if you must fill it out. 

 

The only section that is required in this part is your place of birth.  Please answer all questions honestly.

Question 8 and 10 are required.  Once again, please answer all questions honestly.  If you are a child of a 

military member, it may in your best interest to fill question 9 out to possibly be eligible for scholarships.  

 

Page 2 While only one of these sections is required it is in your best interest to fill every section out.  By filling out all 

of these sections you can show how you will diversify the student body and possibly increase your chances of 

admission.  Please answer honestly.

Page 3 The international baccalaureate (IB) program is a program similar to AP classes, but DVHS does not offer these 

courses so your answer is always no.  

 

Page 4 When you fill out your class schedule you are required to fill out your schedule for the entire year.  Start by 

filling in your core classes for the year and finish with electives.  If you are unsure of what you will be taking all 

year go talk to your guidance counselor.  Don’t forget to add if a course is DC or AP! 

 

Page 5 For the dates of your SAT and ACT make sure you click the right month!  If you are unsure check your SAT or 

ACT account to double check.

Page 6 Make sure to be honest in the residency section.  This information is kept private.  In order to get in state 

tuition your answers to these questions must be (in order): no, TX, yes, yes 

 

Page 7 Filling out the organization section takes the longest, but use your resume to help you fill it out quickly!  You 

should put the organizations you are most involved with first.  The description section should briefly explain 

what the organization is.  Make your best guess at how many hours/week and weeks/year you are involved. 

It is always better to under­estimate.

When you are completing the community service section make sure to put your most recent service first, 

unless you have a service activity that you are frequently involved in.  If you have a one­time service activity, 

just list your start month as your end month as well.  

 

You can add essentially any award you have received in high school. It can be an award from church, a 

scholarship you won, a year you were on honor roll.  If your team qualified for a state or regional competition, 

add it!  If you are unsure about what to add check with any coach in the Dream Center.   

 

Page 9 This page is custom questions, and they are dedicated to school specific 

questions.  Each school will have different questions for you on this page, 

and some may have none at all.  Make sure you fill out all of these 

questions!

Scholarships! At this point some schools will have a Scholarships section.  Before we finish the application, we will go 

through the scholarship section in case a school you are applying to has this available.  Again, it’s pretty straightforward, and the following contains any special circumstances. 

Page 2 With any information regarding your family support or family income be sure to check with your parents!  Be 

aware that the university has the right to verify your family’s financial situation so you do not want to have 

false information here.

Fee waivers! After you complete the scholarship section and have submitted your essays in the essay section it’s time to 

pay for the application.  Request a fee waiver.  UT Austin accepts the SAT and ACT fee waiver so either of 

these would work.  ** 

 

**Fee waivers are going to be different from school to school.  Most schools accept the SAT and ACT fee 

waivers, but some schools may require you to have a separate form filled out by your guidance counselor. 

The school websites should have this information, but if not you all took a picture of the application help line 

in the beginning!  

In all cases, these fee waivers will be sent to the school through the mail with all your other hard copy 

documents that are needed.  Remember, the SAT fee waiver is accessible on College Board for those you who 

have taken the SAT, and College Forward Coaches have the ACT fee waivers if you took the ACT.  Each of 

these needs to be filled out by your guidance counselor.  

CONGRATULATIONS! You have now 

submitted an application! ☺  Now that you have finished your application remember to take a 

picture with your phone of your unique application ID for each school 

you apply to from the Apply Texas home page.  You will put this 

number on the envelope you used to send your transcript, fee waivers 

and recommendation letters with.   

 

****Now that one is done you can copy your information into other 

applications and only have to complete the custom sections, YAY!
