THE BRITISH HEN WELFARE TRUSTCompassion In World Farming peacefully campaign to end all factory farming practices. Farm animal welfare is at the heart of all they do and is founded on scientific fact. Their supporters are pivotal to the success of all their campaigns. They seek out global reform for billions of farm animals suffering around the world.The British Hen Welfare Trust has rescued and found new homes for over 511,000 caged hens when they have reached the end of their commercial life. Although the barren battery cage was banned in 2012 there are still approximately 16 million colony caged hens in the UK.

This year’s garden party will be held on Saturday 14th May between 2pm and 6pm at 41 Johns Avenue, Lofthouse.

There will be lots of cakes, quiches and buns for sale all made from my own hens free-range eggs together with other homemade treats. There will also tea, coffee and

lemonade. There will be lots of plants for sale, Tombola & a crafts, second hand books and Bric a Brac stall. There will also be a raffle with over 20 prizes including a beauty

gift voucher thanks to Refresh at Normanton, tickets for an event at the amazing Unity Works in Wakefield, a £50 and a

£25 high street voucher, wine and chocs.

I have rescued many hens over the years and have some very happy ones at the moment sunbathing at the bottom of my garden. They arrive almost featherless and very frightened but after a couple of weeks their personalities come out. I love to watch them stretch their wings and scratch and peck the ground, it always makes me smile.
