Activities:
The Departments of Electrical and Electronics Engineering & Mechanical Engineering of
Valliammai Engineering College inaugurated the Renewable Energy Club on 4th of February
2014.
• Dr.S.Gomathinayagam, Director, C-WET, Chennai the chief guest of the
inaugural function gave a presentation in which he highlighted the current
power scenario and the need for renewable energy in the future.
In accordance to the progress of renewable energy club activities, one day seminar has been
conducted on “Biomass Energy” delivered by Mr. K.Vijayendiran, Assistant Professor, and
Department of Mechanical Engineering on 03.04.2014.
• He discussed about the various renewable energy sources like Solar, Wind,
Geothermal, Ocean etc. He also explained the methods of generating energy
from Biomass. He concluded with the roll of biomass energy in meeting the
current power demands.
To enlighten the knowledge of academicians guest lecture has been organized on “Development
of Wind Energy in India” on 2nd September 2014.
• The Lecture was delivered by Dr. C.Kanakaraj, Superintend Engineer (Retd), TNEB,
Chennai. He gave a brief lecture about Wind energy, he then explained about history
of electrical energy generation.
• He also had thrown light on the recent trends and development on electricity from
wind energy technically in India. The members found the session very interesting and
informative.
• One day Technical paper presentation in the title “Recent trends in Renewable
Energy” on 30.01.2015 have been organized as a part of club activities, students of
second and third years from EEE,EIE and Mechanical department have been
participated in the paper contest.
• Dr. S.Thirugnanam, Prof/Head, Department of Mechanical and Dr.R.Arivalahan,
Prof, Department of EEE has been the judges for paper presentation. The students
with the spell bounded presentation were given best paper awards.
• To motive the students to put forth their views in exhibiting their knowledge as
physical one, Guest lecture on the topic “Power Quality Issues”on 16.03.2015.The
session was presided by the chief guest Mr.K.Saravanan, Assistant Professor, SRM
University in which he gave a brief introduction to research ideas of wind Energy
Technologies.
• Then Dr.C.Sharmeela, Assistant Professor, A.C Tech Campus, Anna University
presented the lecture on Power Quality Issues.
• As a part of club activities, a special lecture has been conducted on “Recent Trends in
Solar Energy Systems” on 29.09.2015 at EEE department seminar hall. The session
was handed over by Mr. A.Vijayabalan, C.E.O, Transun Energy systems, Chennai.
• The chief guest then briefed the solar energy systems followed by the anecdote on
origin of solar energy. On the eve of the conclusion; practical implementation with
various terminations was given. And to add the lecture includes intellectual
presentation with different statistical analysis. Highly to be quoted some on the
moments include enriched intensity light throw on demanded real time application
with solar energy as their fed source.
