END OF TERM CURRICULUM NEWS:

SPORTING NEWS

On Thursday 28th June a group of 10 children from years 5 & 6 represented DPPS in the Lewisham Schools Quad Kids Athletics Competition. The children had a fantastic day out, performed incredibly well and achieved a

3rd place finish out of 19 other schools! In addition to that, Ela in year 6 was ranked the 3rd best female

athlete of her age group in the borough of Lewisham. This is DPPS best performance in any sporting competition

since coming third in the indoor athletics competition back in December 2016!

Sports day took place the next day on Friday 29th June in Deptford Park. Years 1-6 took part in over 20 different

events which involved various different physical and sporting attributes including, pulling, balancing, racing, skipping, jumping and so much more. The whole school was split into 4 teams for the morning period. England (white), Brazil (yellow), Spain (red) and Nigeria (green) and everybody taking part was scoring points for their respective team.

Overall the winning team was Nigeria! In the afternoon, the Javelin, Relay Race and Individual Races took

place with children scoring points for their classes. Those points were added to points gained in class for basketball

shooting, tennis ball throwing and relay racing to give each class a grand total. Congratulations to Purple who were

the class champions in KS1, Opal the class champions for the middle school and Garnet the champions for

upper KS2.

WELL DONE EVERYONE!

MUSIC NEWS

This year, the Year 3&4 choir performed with 7 other Lewisham schools in a choir of

around 200 children at Sedgehill Secondary School in Lewisham’s Song Fest. They

performed 6 songs, with the audience joining them in the encore! The children performed extremely well, and were given a special mention from the singing leader. A fun time was had by all!

Next year, we welcome Rock Steady to Deptford Park. Don’t forget to sign up online

if you would like to join a rock band!

CHESS NEWS We held our 4th annual Deptford Park chess tournament on Friday 13th. 64 players took part playing between them one hundred and sixty games of chess. The tournament was supported by the charity Chess in Schools and Community and they commented on the level of chess and sporting behaviour. At the end of the tournament medals were given out for the best overall players as well as for the best in Year 6 and Year 5 and in each of the Year 4 classes.

Well done to everyone!

SUMMER HOLIDAY TOP SAFETY TIPS:

Out and about

1. Always tell your parents or carers where you are playing and who you are playing with. 2. Never talk with strangers or go anywhere with them. 3. If you are allowed to cross the road by yourself, wait at the kerb until it is safe looking both ways and listening, go straight cross the road, do not run, keep looking and listening while you cross. 4. Never play near train tracks/bridges, rivers or on a building site.

Internet safety 5. Tell a parent or adult if you are using the Internet so they can supervise you. 6. Don't tell anyone your password or personal details and NEVER meet anyone from online. 7. Tell your parents if something makes you feel worried, upset or uncomfortable.

Swimming and the seaside 8. Never swim alone and always obey the rules at the swimming pool or seaside. 9. Stay near to family and friends so that you can always see them and they can see you.

And finally some homework…

Can you think of any safety tips whilst being at home?

Do you know how to get help and call the emergency services?
