At ZOW REHAU will present many estab-lished product ranges as well as inno-vative new developments, with which the polymer specialist will underline its position as a long-standing partner to the kitchen and furniture industry.

Fusing surfaces with laser edgebandsWith the flexible glass laminate RAUVISIO crystal and the high gloss laminate RAUVISIO brilliant REHAU offers high-

quality high gloss finishes and materials that are particularly easy to process for puristic kitchens. RAUVISIO crystal looks like real glass and combines both the processing as well as application advan-tages such as damage resistance, scratch resistance and ease of cleaning of polymer surfaces. However, RAUVISIO brilliant with its extraordinary depth effect can replace high gloss paint elements. If this sur-face is combined with a jointless laser

bond between the board and edgeband, a perfect piece of furniture is created - the appearance of total seamless integration.

In order to be able to create exactly this ideal edgeband bond, with RAUKANTEX laser edge REHAU offers an edgeband material that can be used with all of the common systems on the market: laser, hot air as well as plasma technology. REHAU therefore reacts to the constantly increasing

requirements on appearance, design and high product quality in furniture production.

But REHAU doesn‘t just supply single product solutions, but also complete system solutions for individual kitchens: For example frame4 RAUVOLET metallic-line, a new, delicate track system for the tried and tested RAUVOLET metallic-line. Or the sensor-controlled CLIMBER by Ludewig glass slat cabinet as a complete,

installation-ready system. The wall seal profile RAUWALON system line 2 is also a comprehensive solution and, at the same time, a reinterpretation of the conventional profile, as the sealing lips are hidden in the background.

GLOSSY SURfACES fOR THE KITCHEN

GLASS AND HIGH GLOSS fRONTS A LARGE SELECTION Of POPULAR SURfACES WITH A PERfECT fINISH

The demand for high gloss furniture fronts and glass finishes continues - Correspondingly the interest in innovations from REHAU was particularly high at Interzum 2013 in Cologne: With RAUVISIO crystal and RAUVISIO brilliant two products made their débuts, which enable furniture manufacturers, joiners, interior designers and architects to create high gloss fronts or glass finishes without compromise. Both impress with their high quality as well as flexible processing properties and can be teamed with a colour coordinated edgeband without a joint for an all round perfect design.

Outstanding: Award-winning and tested glass laminate Whether it is in the kitchen, in the bathroom or in the living room - glass is widely used in furniture design now-adays. REHAU developed RAUVISIO crystal for this demand. The lightfast and UV-resistant glass laminate for ver-tical furniture fronts has already been awarded two prizes: RAUVISIO crystal and the matching edgeband in glass design, RAUKANTEX visions Duo-Design laser, were awarded the „red dot Design Award – honourable mention 2013“ and the „interzum award 2013“ for high product quality. With RAUVISIO crystal REHAU customers can achieve the special appearance of glass, without having to put up with the associated disadvantages such as susceptibility to fracture, high product-ion requirements for individual sizes or predefined drill holes for handles. In addition, glass furniture pieces require a lot of cleaning as dirt collects in the joint area between the glass plate and edgeband over time. With the polymer

glass solution RAUVISIO crystal REHAU offers maximum flexibility for fronts but also frame solutions in a glass finish - and with low stock, as individual cuts and flexible drill holes are possible. As an edgeband specialist, REHAU‘s laser-compatible RAUKANTEX visions Duo-Design edgeband offers glass design in perfection. The glass on a roll is perfectly matched to the system component surface, wooden substrate and balancing foil both at a functional and a visual level.

AMK tests passed with flying coloursRAUVISIO crystal, together with the mat-ching laser edgeband passed even the high test requirements of the “Arbeitsge-meinschaft Die Moderne Küche” (AMK) with regard to temperature, water va-pour and alternating climate resistance. The product system is the first polymer glass with the edgeband applied that has passed the AMK test.

The RAUVISIO crystal product range RAUVISIO brilliant has ten Uni and Metallic decorative designs to choose from

coordination guide includes the glass laminate, the matching balancing foil and the ideal laser edgeband, RAUKANTEX visions Duo-Design laser, in the colours Bianco, Perla and Magnolia. REHAU only supplies pressed boards in the dimen-sions 1,300 x 2,800 mm, in order to guarantee excellent quality at all times. Perfect colour brilliance for a jointless frontThe new high gloss laminate RAUVISIO brilliant for covering vertical furniture fronts enables outstanding design in all facets, and thanks to its depth effect offers an interesting and cost-effective alternative to painted elements. Through the combination of edgeband and sur-face a consistent gloss finish is created across all of the front and edgeband. Particularly when used with laser pro-cessing, i.e. the use of RAUANTEX laser edge, surfaces with the appearance of total seamless integration are created. RAUVISIO brilliant is permanently UV-resistant and has an excellent colour quality and brilliance. Within the REHAU product range surfaces, edgebands and balancing foils are perfectly matched to each other in colour in the product range coordination guide. From the laminate to the front - REHAU offers the complete RAUVISIO brilliant product range in ten different colours as a finished pressed board or a laminate. The edgeband collection consists of seven design ranges and 33 edgebands that match the surfaces. REHAU supplies the entire range for front processing from stock. Whether laminates, pressed boards, standard or laser edgebands – REHAU provides the entire jointless system package including consultation and technical services.

JOINTLESS EDGEBAND PROCESSING

ONE EDGEBAND fOR ALL PROCESSESRAUKANTEX LASER EDGE CAN BE USED fOR LASER, HOT AIR AND PLASMA TECHNOLOGY

Regardless of which process a customer wants to use due to their individual production conditions: With RAUKANTEX laser edge they achieve the leap in quality to an invisible joint. As the special polymer functional layer of the edgeband can be melted on using a laser, hot compressed air or air plasma. This creates a permanent bond to the substrate, which impresses with its high-quality design.

In furniture production increasing requirements on the design and ap-pearance together with high product quality and functionality play a signifi-cant role. This is particularly the case for the application of the edgeband. For a long time it has only been pos-sible to seal the narrow surfaces of a

piece of furniture by applying hot-melt adhesives to the substrate. Over the decades this resulted in increased work for machine maintenance and production preparation, for example due to the handling of adhesives and cleaning agents. This was also the case for production post-processing,

particularly cleaning the components, machines and units. The most impor-tant point however was a tolerated visual defect: the glue joint, which has a negative influence on the overall appearance.

Multi-functional material for three production processesIt was therefore no wonder that new technologies very quickly became „state of the art“. We are talking about ed-geband application by the laser, hot air or plasma process. They make it possible to bond edgebands and boards

permanently, without a joint and without adhesive. As a development leader, with RAUKANTEX laser edge REHAU offers a multi-functional material in its edgeband portfolio that can be used for all three production processes without a loss of quality and, in particular, without being detrimental to the design.

ONE EDGEBAND fOR ALL PROCESSESRAUKANTEX LASER EDGE CAN BE USED fOR LASER, HOT AIR AND PLASMA TECHNOLOGY

Polymer functional layer ensures invisible jointsREHAU provides RAUKANTEX laser edge with a special polymer functional layer that is perfectly matched to the base colour of the edgeband that, if processed properly, can be melted with all of the technologies available on the market and therefore permanently bonded to the board. The prerequisite for an optimum processing result with regard to functionality and design is in any case the proper processing of the edgebands with individual machine adjustment.

In the case of laser processing the high force of the laser activates the function-al layer. This melts and bonds permanently to the rough surface of the substrate. Laser technology is now used in a lot of industrial production with a high throughput.

Hot compressed air activates the functional layer in the hot air process. Here heated air is directed just a few centimetres in front of the pressure zone out of special nozzles directly on to the reverse of the edgeband. Both commercial customers as well as smaller fabricators know that lower investment costs are to be anticipated with this technology in comparison to laser. Also, they can achieve the quality leap to an invisible joint in this way. But this technology is not only interesting for this clientèle, it can also represent an addition as a custom / small machine for industrial fabricators (e.g. for custom and single pieces).

If a customer uses the plasma process, air plasma out of a nozzle is applied to the functional layer of RAUKANTEX laser edge. The special layer liquefies and the edgeband also bonds without a joint to the substrate.

Unbeatable in design, functionality and process optimisationPermanent, invisible joints can be achieved with RAUKANTEX laser edge. The polypropylene used has maximum light resistance. With RAUKANTEX laser edge REHAU focuses on an exact colour

match between the functional and decora-tive layer. The

hard-n e s s is also i d e n t i c a l and wearing down of the functional layer in day-to-day use is impossible. With regard to the functio-nality the invisible joint is also stable, it has maximum resistance to heat, moisture and chemicals.

RAUKANTEX laser edge increases the process reliability thanks to the con-sistently high quality, it enables you to save process steps and means of pro-duction. There is only little maintenance work and the units in the machines do not get dirty.

All-round standard finishes for high gloss fronts Regardless of the production process RAUKANTEX laser edge is also suitable for radius polishing. This presents a particular challenge in the case of high gloss fronts. In conjunction with the pilot

customer Hunger and network partners REHAU developed optimised processing of the radius areas. The combination of processing the invisible joint, specially developed RAUKANTEX edgeband ma-terials (ABS, PMMA), the duo scraper and polishing unit create the perfect gloss finish across the whole piece. The duo scraper removes a wafer thin layer, and therefore forms the radius with minimised roughness without cracks. The polishing unit then gives the radius area a high gloss finish.

The customer chooses the new edge-band technology due to their individual production: With RAUKANTEX laser edge the ideal edgeband is available for them.

Laser technology: Due to the high force of the laser the functional layer of RAUKANTEX laser edge is activated.

Hot air technology: Hot compressed air activates the functional layer of RAUKANTEX laser edge.

Plasma technology: Air plasma is applied to the functional layer of RAUKANTEX laser edge.

CLIMBER BY LUDEWIG ELEGANT GLASS SLAT CABINET WITH COMfORT OPENING

Puristic design and a real eye catcher in the modern kitchen - This sums up the CLIMBER by Ludewig glass slat cabinet. Comfort requirements at a high level are met, as the slats made from safety glass are opened by lightly touching the sensor and enable easy access to glasses and crockery.

CLIMBER by Ludewig brings the fascination for glass into the kitchen. When closed the model impresses with its elegant look, when opened you can easily access glasses and crockery. CLIMBER by Ludewig therefore stands out as a multi-faceted as well as functional solution in any kitchen.

When movement becomes an experience With CLIMBER by Ludewig opening it becomes an experience: The motor-driven, sensor-controlled opening me-chanism ensures high comfort during operation. A light touch of the sensor below the wall cabinet is enough to

make the glass slats gently slide up. The slats are made from safety glass (ESG) and therefore cope with all every-day loads.

Coordinated colour spectrum for RAUVISIO crystalWith their 13 cm slat width the slats create a harmonious, two-dimensional front in six different colour finishes. In terms of colour, the glass slats of the CLIMBER by Ludewig are available, amongst others, in the popular colours Perla and Magnolia coordinated with the polymer glass laminate RAUVISIO crystal. As a result the kitchen designer can work throughout in the product range coordination guide: Matching the CLIMBER by Ludewig for example

kitchen doors, drawer covers or pull-out fronts of floor cupboards, corner cupboards and tall cupboards made from RAUVISIO crystal form a perfect unit. In addition to this there is the glass slat cabinet in the colours white, black, black translucent and Satinato, which again expands the scope for design. The colour collection for the carcass includes the two decors white high gloss and stainless steel finish.REHAU offers the CLIMBER by Ludewig in different dimensions and supplies a complete, pre-assembled cabinet module consisting of carcass, slat sys-tem and the appropriate motor unit. There are products that go unnoticed, but which play an important role in the overall concept of a kitchen. For example wall seal profiles that are used between the kitchen worktop and the wall that close the gap to the wall and prevent the infiltration of dirt and moisture. REHAU also places value on a high-quality appearance for this product that initially goes unnoticed, and offers the RAUWALON product range in the product range coordination guide for edgebands and the decor of the worktop.

Launch at ZOW 2014Whilst the wall seal profiles that were used previously had visible sealing

lips at the top and bottom, the lower sealing lip is not visually apparent in the RAUWALON system line 2. The transition between the worktop and wall seal profile goes unnoticed - for a delicate design and without any losses in protection against moisture. REHAU will present the optimised system for the first time to visitors to ZOW 2014.Of course REHAU will offer the product - as with the rest of the RAUWALON product range - in the product range coordination guide with all of the popular worktop collections. Last but not least, REHAU has expanded the portfolio of the RAUWALON system line 2 with matching, subtle fittings such as internal corners, external corners and end caps.

An innovation - developed by students of product designThe development of the new RAUWALON system line 2 took place in conjunction with prospective product designers from the technical college for product design in Selb. The polymer specialist set the students the exciting and, at the same time, challenging task of creating a new design solution for kitchen wall seal profiles. The solution was primarily meant to be characterised by a high degree of innovation as well as tangible benefits for the end customer. Ten prospective product designers presented their impressive designs to a specialist jury consisting of employees from REHAU product management. They evaluated the designs and the new RAUWALON system line 2 was created from the best idea.

INDIvIDUAL SYSTEM SOLUTIONS

An unobtrusive product has presented itself as an innovation in the area of wall seal profi les. With the RAUWALON system line 2 REHAU has managed to create a reinterpretation of conventional wall seal systems. The innovative product with the invisible lower sealing lip was created by a team of the in-house development department and a competition run by REHAU at the technical college for product design in Selb, Germany.
