Stable, Cooperative, TranquilityAssignment 2 - Concept ModelJeffrey RodriguezARCH 3510 - Design 5Summer 2013

Concept Process

Stability = Trying to make the ob-

ject look sound & sturdy.

Cooperative = Two or more ele-

ments that after a mess of confusionthe elements harmonize.

Tranquility = Create a sense of

peace and calmness from the hardtimes

Materials = Paper & ChipboardConcept Process

- Solid mass shows a stable place

- To show Tranquility and cooperation

we need to see the chaos and the reck-

lessness in the objects.

- I switched the solid mass to a pyramidmass because the strongest and most

sound shape is the triangle

- The individual smaller masses piercing the pyramid are shifted on differentdirections and are of different shapes to show the different problems thatcan unite in the stable environment to and come out unified and headed theright direction

- I Hollowed out the areas where the small massesenter to show them entering the stable area withtheir problems then with help the hollowness solidi-fies and the objects become cooperative with eachother. The contrast shows how it exits in a moretranquil manner.

Paper

Chipboard

A single sheet of paper is weak and its formcan be influenced by the surface it rests on.This is related to a person’s way of being avictim of their environment.

The new form can be treated to turn thepaper back to its form. This relates to a per-son with troubles, with help they can get backon track.

Chipboard is a thicker material that doesn’tshape to its surface easily like paper. This isrelated to the stable help that’s not going any-where to help the people in need.

Incorporating Concept into Building Envelope Adjusting Mass for Zoning Restrictions

Further Refinement - Building on SiteFurther Adjustments

3.

1.

2.3.

We begin with three masses. The first two are el-evated from the ground and need some kind ofsupport to stay elevated. This is where the thirdmass, that’s is on the ground, comes into play.

1. Mass is lowered to reach max base height2. Mass is set back to comply with the sky exposure plane.3. Mass is pushed back to allow for rear yard requirements.

1. Grounded Mass is elevated to maximize zoning height space.2. Surface is extended to show a greater overhang and supportive spaces.3. Stair core penetrates the overhanging mass creating a split in that mass.

The core then becomes a visual support for the overhanging masses.

Long Term Occupancy - (5 to 8 Years) -

Depends on the childs’ age range. Pre-Teens and younger children need lessprivate spaces. This age range, fromthree till eleven, would work well withinthe unit.

Design Strategy -

- Retractable beds and walls create openspaces for kids to play but a sense ofprivecy wheen the panels are closed.

- More covered storage to hide rarelyused items.
