We cannot presuppose what online solutions will work for the community they own the process and set the agenda, not us
We can create opportunities for them to come together and identify their needs
We can make informed guesses about what might work
First action: an event with the local geeks to share ideas, identify priorities, map activity etc
Key messages
Online social media can create a feeling of belonging / connected / social
Connecting online creates power for the local community by giving them a platform and a collective voice.
Online is a good place to share personal histories
Online makes it easy to share resources and skills
Planning for the community event
Event design: identify a core group to sense check the planning (this should include Butetown.org and Trydan members)
Participants: map the networks through online communities, facebook groups, and individuals - those who are online for both professional and personal use
Venue: confirm a location with good internet connectivity, organise equipment required (such as projectors) and refreshments
Marketing the community event
Some of the key groups that should be targeted:

Word of mouth Eventbrite page for registration Contact other online groups and email key local
websites
Community event
Purpose: motivate existing online Butetown communities, create a mutual support group, define the benefits, encourage spread of online engagement across the wider community.
Audience: those active online, also community activists / organisers not yet using the web
Content: sharing knowledge / demonstrations, map local activity
Style: informal, workshop-y, conversational, acronym free
Desired outcomes: participants become members of a digital practitioners group and encourage others to join
Record: video, audio, pictures, blog posts, tweets etc.
