1 Light Up Rotary Dear Colleagues, DDGs, AGs, District Team Members, Presidents, Secretaries and fellow Rotarians from all over our unique District 2452. Greetings from the Kingdom of Bahrain!! As I stand at the beginning of the new Rotary Year 2014-2015, I see ahead of me a horizon, full of great opportunities, great chal- lenges and great responsibilities. We are all Rotarians, therefore our dedications and commitments towards Rotary’s values and principles are the same. Hence at this hour I would like to ask you all to accompany and support me through a journey that is full of challenges and responsibilities. Embarking on a journey of such tremendous responsibility, I welcome you all on board,to share our hope and enthusiasm, because this journey needs a coordinated effort of intensity and strength, requiring the support and participation of every Rotarian of District 2452. District 2452 is an integral part of the global Rotary and they share our successes and take pride in our achievements as we all to- gether work towards spreading friendship and peace all over the globe. I see the potential for this year to be extremely fruitful once we put all of our thoughts and efforts into planning for what needs to be done. And I trust that you all will move ahead united, sharing ideas and suggestions with mutual respect and friendship, enjoying every moment in true Rotary spirit. The District Team leaders and Club leaders must by now have formulated plans and strategies for the year which will undoubtedly focus on rendering the best possible service to the community. In doing so, we will have to get all the members of our club together, working as one team towards the common goal of being at the service of the society. By way of promoting “Service Above Self”, let us take our Clubs and District to a new level and further enhance the image of Rota- ry in our District and throughout the world. Finally, I take this opportunity to congratulate you for the new Rotary Year 2014-15 and wish you all success. In the following pages you will see some of the preparations that myself, in my capacity as Governor Elect, and my core team have initiated for setting up the stage for the success of the forthcoming Rotary Year 2014-2015 I look forward to work closely with you all for the betterment of our community and communities beyond. 2014 ROTARY CONVENTION ENDS WITH THE PASSING OF THE TORCH

Members of Burton's Rotary Club of Norman, Oklahoma,United States, and RI President-elect Gary C.K. Huang'sclub of Taipei, Taiwan, took the stage to exchange clubbanners, a tradition that unofficially marks a changing ofthe guard.

Huang will become Rotary International president on 1July. During his term in office, he has set a goal of grow-ing Rotary's membership to 1.3 million. Huang told theaudience that increasing and sustaining membership willhelp Rotary achieve its goals. He shared a story about asmall Taiwanese club that had only six members. But afterasking their wives to join, the club grew to 29 members inthree years because the spouses asked their friends to be-come members as well.

"I want to remind everyone that sometimes getting a newmember is as easy as asking," said Huang, whose wife,Corinna, became a member in July. "It made perfect sense. She was a great match for Rotary. Corinna enjoyed it somuch that our three children joined Rotary as well. Theyhave been around Rotary their whole lives. They did notneed to be convinced. It was a natural step for them," saidHuang.

Huang, whose Presidential Theme for 2014-15 is Light UpRotary, also encouraged members to conduct Rotary Daysthroughout the year to help the community become morefamiliar with Rotary's work.

"It can be a day to educate your community about polio, itcan be a service project, or a celebration. Just make sure toinvite the public, your families, and friends," he said."Show your community what you do, both locally andinternationally. Make sure your community knows thatRotary is there, that Rotary is active, Rotary is fun, and it

is doing good work."Huang gave attendees three words to guide them this year:hand, head, and heart. "Use your hand to help, use yourhead to make sure you are helping in the right place, anduse your heart to make it sincere. Without your heart, nothing else matters."
