Agoldeneagle,arareandhighlyprotectedbirdofprey,hasbeenfounddeadnearLimfjordinwestJutland,reportsDR.AccordingtotheDanishOrnithologicalSociety(DOF),thebirdwasshotandatleast20pelletswerefoundinitsbody.
Shotonpurpose
KnudFlensted,abiologistatDOF,confirmedtheperpetratormusthavekilledtheeagleonpurposebecausetheshotswerefiredatcloserangeandthepelletswereincloseproximitytooneanother.“Itisshameful,sadandverytroublingthattherearestillpeoplewhoaredrivenbyahatredforbirdsofpreyandwhowouldshootaprotectedandveryrareeagle,”FlenstedtoldDR.Thegoldeneaglewasbarelysevenyearsoldandofabreedingage.
ItwasringedinMay2009inHalsNørreskovnearAalborg,oneofthreemainbreedingsitesinDenmark.

WelookataGermanfighterplanepractising loops.Itgoesintoatailspin,gyrates,theenginefailstofunctionandcutsout.Inascarymomentwewatchthemachinehangupright,wehearthepilotdesperatelytryingtorestarttheengineandhopethathewilljumpout,butitdoesn´thappen.Hehaswaitedtoolongandthecentrifugalforcehaslockedhimtotheseatandfinallywehearanenormousbang.WebikedtoMygdalsvejandfoundtheplacewherethefighterhadcrashed.Therewasadeepcrater,wreckswerespreadoverawideradius.Welookedforthepilot,butfoundnothingbutaaboot.Hisfootwasstillinit.
