BRISBANE AMATEUR RADIO CLUB BUSINESS MEETING 22 March 2013

The meeting was opened at 7:30pm by the President VK4ZR. Nine members were present: VK4s DS, OU, TWS, ACG, HJK, SO, COZ, ZR, ABN Apologies Frank VK4XK, Paul VK4FADG Minutes The minutes of the last business meeting were read by the Secretary VK4COZ and approved. Business Arising There has been very little useful information forthcoming on the 110th Anniversary of the first ship to shore radio communication, and it was decided we were unable to help. Berwyn Kelly has been preparing articles to advertise the clubs activities, and wants to get some more photos. Information on BARCFest is now appearing regularly on WIA news broadcasts. Financial Report The Treasurer tabled his report. The opening balance was $xxx.xx. A booking for BARCFest from ICE Communications brought in $78, there were no expenses leaving a final balance of $xxx.xx. Further expenses since then included $182.30 for Public Liability insurance and $48.91 for the social BBQ. The Treasurer moved his report be accepted, second Jim VK4HJK, and approved. Correspondence The usual magazines have been received, AR, CQ, Practical Wireless. There was one BARCFEST booking, with a receipt sent out plus a cheque for the VK4BA licence. Reports 10m Net Bill, VK4TWS, reported the net is continuing to run well with 6 or 7 on most weeks. 70cm Net The net has been on 146.550 while repeater problems are resolved. Numbers from 3 to

8 have been checking in. General Business BARCFest organisation for the day will need to be completed soon, with a roster of jobs ready. Problems with the repeater have been found to be due to the coax. Renato checked the diplexer and it is ok. Some better coax was tried by Bill VK4TWS & Paul VK4FADG with no great improvement. Renato is looking for some heliax and connectors. No progress has been made with removing the tower at George Nelson’s place. There being no further business, the meeting was closed at 8.00 pm.

We have noticed that there have been items bought and sold before the 9:30am opening time to the public. This should not happen so please inform any one who is observed doing this that this process is not allowed. It is unfair to the normal paying public and should be discouraged. It is intended to provide an identification to exhibitors and their helpers who will be coming and going while the gear is being brought from the vehicles into the hall to help the Club Members who are manning the entrances to ensure everyone pays the stand entry fee and is easily identified, The Café de Barc will be set up as usual with the normal food items available. To assist the Club Members collecting the entrance fee people will be able to pay as soon as they arrive so the two entrance tables will be manned as early as possible. This should eliminate the problem of a large queue forming prior to the 9:30 am entrance time. Disabled people will be allowed into the venue prior to the normal entrance time. Commercial Exhibitors Ice communications ,RF solutions Josh Hahn montville (can't remember the name of his company) Radio supply (NSW) will be attending

Communication Equipment Donated to the Club

Renato VK4TNT has been successful in obtaining some communication equipment that has been donated to the club for use by the members NOT for resale. The items are to be given free to members with the proviso that they are not to be onsold to non members. They are intended for sole use by club Members. The items include a number of 70 cm transceivers. There are three different models. They will be reprogrammed to operate on the amateur 70 cm band before given to members. Suitable power supplies will have to be provided by the club members. Renato is attempting to arrange for a Saturday afternoon working bee so that the transceivers can be reprogrammed and tested prior being available to be given to interested members. How they will be given out has still to be decided. More details will be provided as the project progresses.

Social Meeting for 10th May

It is intended to still have a meeting on Friday 19th to make any final arrangements for BARCFEST on the next day

Annual General Meeting Will be held on Friday 24th May when the Committee positions will be recalled
