This week in Magenta we have become scientists. We have had fantastic fun doing science experiments in the classroom. We have made predictions, written and drawn up our findings.

At the start of the week, we went outside, Mrs Daniel was dressed as a scientist and a had a big bottle of lemonade. She shook the bottle lots and we made a sensible guess as to what was going to happen. We then had a closer look at the lemonade and bubbles in a glass and also put lots of raisins in it ! Other fun experiments included using food colouring and white flowers. As scientists we carefully

watched and predicted what was going to happen, when food colouring was added to water and then when a flower was put in the vase.

We have really enjoyed being scientists and have become such confident writers, we wrote up scientific reports and labelled our own diagrams.

Nursery children have been taking part in the art project, ‘Take One Picture.’ We looked carefully at the painting, ‘An experiment on a bird in an Air Pump’ and became very interested in the bird. We have focused our art sessions on the story ‘Owl Babies’ by Martin Waddell, as the colours are similar, it is also about birds and it explores different emotions. The last two weeks have been so much fun, we have printed owls, painted with sticks, made nests, retold the story, drawn with charcoal, examined feathers and made tree models. Phew! What a busy fortnight!

We have started a new topic for Our Learning Journey which is about Kelvin Grove’s neighbourhood; we have planned lots of outings to get to know the area. We have already visited Wells Park and learned about its history. We are going to find out about the streets and roads and also the buses serving our neighbourhood. The children will make a booklet with all the information they find out and all the places they visit. We have also being going out shopping for our cooking lessons and learning all about keeping safe when out and about.

'On Thursday, Jade Class and the rest of year 3 had a fantastic trip to Lullingstone Roman Villa in Eynsford, Kent! At the villa we were excited to learn about how a family in Roman Britain would have lived. We also enjoyed our countryside walk - looking at the River Darent, the lake, hills, fields, golf course as well as the beautiful country buildings. Our favourite part of the trip though was getting so close to nature, particularly the horses and dazzling dragonflies which we saw swimming over the river! The dragonflies reminded us of the wire bugs we had made as part of our 'Take One Picture' art project. '

In Saffron Class, the children have been enjoying their Take One Picture work. They were interested in the cockatoo in the painting, so we decided to study them. After finding out about them, the children produced some wonderful drawings of cockatoos. Then they looked at feathers from a range of different birds and produced some more beautiful artwork.

We have been doing Take One Picture and it has been amazing! We have done lots of exciting art work. Mr Gough taught us what a mosaic is and we have worked with Lavender and Indigo Class to make two giant mosaic collages. We used paper on one and fabric on another. It was lots of fun and we can’t wait to see what it looks like when we put it back together.

Also, in English, we discussed what we think about animal testing and in the afternoon, we had a debate. Year 5 strongly agreed that animal testing is wrong and we now getting ready to write a letter to a newspaper to convince them that animal testing

should be banned. By Leeon & Adonias
