DIFFERENCE OF ARCHITECTURE DRAWING AND STRUCTURAL DRAWING An architectural drawing or architect's drawing is a technical drawing of a building (or building project) that falls within the definition of architecture . Architectural drawings are used by architects and others for a number of purposes: to develop a design idea into a coherent proposal, to communicate ideas and concepts, to convince clients of the merits of a design, to enable a building contractor to construct it, as a record of the completed work, and to make a record of a building that already exists. A structural drawing , a type of technical drawing , shows information about foundations, roof, or other structural details. The architectural details contain the floor layouts, exterior wall details, elevator shafts, etc....the basic look of the building...the artsiness of the building. The structural details show what holds the building up. The nitty gritty. The stuff that gets hidden by dry wall, floor tile, ceiling tile, paint, etc. Where the architectural drawings will show a floor plan, the structural drawings will have the overall concrete slab plan. Where the architectural drawings will show you how the building will look like on the outside, the structural details will show you what the wall is comprised of.
