DIGIMIC mini I Digital Microphone Management System | Architectural and Engineering Specifications

IntroductionThe DIGIMIC mini microphone management system is intended for small and me-dium-sized rounds of talks. Development was focused on user friendliness and quick and simple system set-up (plug and play). Its interfaces provide connectivity to ex-ternal systems, e.g. a public address system, a clip-on microphone, etc. It is naturally possible to connect a recording system with freely selectable recording formats (WAV, MP3, or others) and corresponding storage media.

1.0 OverviewThe microphone management system must comply with international standard IEC60914.It is basically operated as a wired system. The microphones for wireless operation are the delegate and chairperson units CMic, CMic CSV, CChair, CChair CSV, and DMic via connection adapter.

The system must allow an optimised and problem-free adaptation to various require-ments.

The system must- have a line input for external signal sources, e.g. from the mixing console or wire-

less presentation microphone- have a line output for connection to a public address system- have various microphone operating modes- be operable as a stand-alone system (without a PC)- have a LAN connection (control, update)- as an optional extra, be controllable via PC and application software.

1.1 System StructureThe microphone management system is designed as a single-cable (daisy-chain) system with automatic self-configuration and linear cable topology.

All functions and operational controls contained in the system must be controllable via key combinations (VOX, FLOAT, BAL, VOL).

The various conference units, such as the various delegate units, must be easy to in-tegrate.

The system is to use a single system cable to connect all conference units (shielded, specially twisted Brähler system cable) with stable, lockable connectors.

1.3 General System FunctionsThe microphone management system, including all its features, must provide the fol-lowing functions:

All audio signals must be entirely digital

Central control of all connected microphone units, providing various operating modes within the connected system

Operating modes must be directly controllable without interruption of the audio signals

Allocation of chairperson priority (MUTE)

Attenuation of open microphones, particularly for use with a simultaneous in-terpretation system, in order to prevent interference

Automatic identification of each individual microphone unit within the system

Allocation of the internal audio signal to the analogue output interface, e.g. Line OUT (cinch)

Separate Line IN (cinch) for external signal sources or a mixed signal from the mixing console

Balanced output for public address system or separate allocation of the mixed audio signal from the system

LAN connection for PC, firmware updates, or remote control

Use of the delegate unit for voting, in the case of CMic CSV and CChair CSV in connection with PC / laptop and voting module

Extension to voting system via PC and DIGIVOTE voting module (PowerPoint)

1.4 System OperationAnybody is to be able to operate the system.- Technician: setup, operation and maintenance directly at the control console and

via software- Operator: conference operation- Chairperson: priority function, delegating and administrating- Secretary: chairperson support

2.0 Conference ModesThe conference system must include the following microphone operating modes:

2.1 Manual ModeManual mode, i.e. floor request with allocation, can be operated using the application software (cf. description of DMicControl).

2.2 Automatic ModeThe wired DIGIMIC is to provide the following different automatic modes:

AUTomatic Up to 3 microphone units can be simultaneously activated.

AUTFloat If the maximum number of active microphones has been reached, the delegate whose microphone has been activated the longest is re-placed by the new delegate.

All delegates must be able to independently switch off themselves or their floor re-quest in each and every operating mode.

2.3 Microphone Voice Control (VOX Mode)In voice control mode the delegate units are to be activatable by voice alone, i.e. a delegate simply speaks into his or her microphone and the microphone unit is activ-ated automatically. This operating mode is useful in pure debates without a simultan-eous interpretation system in the background.

The wired DIGIMIC mini provides the following voice control modes:

VAL Voice control mode with a limitation on the maximum number of act-ive delegate units to 3

VALC Voice control mode including chairperson mute with a limitation on the maximum number of active delegate units to 3

3.0 Control Console DCen miniAs a fully digital system, the control console has a broad range of functions and vari-ous interfaces, including the possibility of future enhancements. As a basic version, the system can control 25 microphone units, but must be extendable via correspond-ing equipment, e.g. additional power supply. It must also be possible to add software control via PC or laptop, including allocation by name and logging. The compact control console is intended for wireless operation in a small conference environment. It has a connection branch for the delegate units. 25 microphone units are to be connectable here, however the branch must also be extendable by a further 25 microphone units using an additional power supply DExt.The control console is designed for stand-alone operation (without a PC). It has an external power supply covering the range of 90 to 240 V.

Technical SpecificationsThe following functions and features must be included:- Volume control via +/- key- Balance control via +/- key- Various microphone operating modes (FLOAT, VOX, AUT), directly operable

without interruption. The operating modes can be set via a key combination on the front of the control console.

- Allocation of the (delegate) mute function by the chairperson via the chairperson unit

The display LEDs at the front in the respective keys show the operating status.

The following connections must be provided:- A CMic connection for up to 25 delegate units (DisplayPort)- Audio input for an external signal, e.g. from the mixing console, wireless hand or

clip-on microphone (cinch)- 1 XLR OUT (balanced) for separate allocation of the entire audio signal, control-

lable via MIC/Line level- 1 line output (unbalanced) for separate allocation of the microphone signal of the

individual delegates (cinch)- 1 LAN connection (RJ45)

Digital Audio- Sampling rate: 48 kHz- Transmission range: 20 to 20,000 Hz- Latency: approx. 1 msec

4.0 Special Features and FunctionsInputTo provide the delegate microphone unit (loudspeaker or headset) with additional au-dio sources apart from the microphone signal, the audio signal of the microphone management system must be separately allocatable, enabling it to be mixed with other audio signals via a mixing console and subsequently fed back into the system.

4.1 Desktop Microphone UnitsThe wired system must be operable with the following microphone units:- Chairperson unit (CChair, CChair CSV):
