Digital Negatives Using a variety of found images, create a new landscape image with elements of the crazy and fantastic. Using Photoshop create an image by using digital collage methods to cut out and paste your new image together. Start with a background image and add new things to it. You might have monsters lurking in a calm forest landscape or giant sharks swimming in the air above a city landscape. Anything could happen! Once you have created your final layout, you need to follow the steps below to create your digital negative. 1. Save your image and print out a colour copy for your visual diary. 2. LAYER è FLATTEN IMAGE / FLATTEN LAYERS (depends what version of photoshop you are using) 3. IMAGE è MODE è GREYSCALE è Click DISCARD 4. IMAGE è ADJUSTMENTS èINVERT Now you can print your image onto Acetate. Once you have your digital negative printed, you can go into the darkroom and print it using the contact print method. Paper down first (shiny side up), then put the digital negative on top of the paper and then put glass over the whole thing. Set your time to 2 seconds and print! You need to do two final prints. For this task you are required to complete: One colour print stuck in your visual diary, The acetate negative stuck in your visual diary, One b&w print of your image stuck in your visual diary, One b&w print of your image ready to hand in with your name on the back. In your visual diary you also need to a. Explain your image, why did you decide on the elements that you included in your image. What is it about? b. Explain how you create a digital negative – what steps do you take? c. Why might it be useful to be able to create digital negatives that are printed in the darkroom? d. Annotate each image – explain what it is. e. Evaluate your final work – is it successful as an image? Is it correctly printed? What could you change or improve about your work if you had to do it again?
