of the IQAC
Introduction
Our college was founded on 25 August, 1969 by
the managing committee being run under the Trust
named Maharana Pratap Shiksha Parishad, Gorakhpur,
U.P. established in 1932. Digvijay Nath Post Graduate
College, Gorakhpur, U.P. situates in the heart of
Gorakhpur city on the main road side of the Civil Lines
area (page 90). It is about 1.2 kms from Gorakhpur
Railway station and 1.0 Km. from Roadways bus station.
At present Dr. Bholendra Singh is the President of Managing Committee of
our college. His Holiness Mahant Avedya Nathji Maharaj (Ex- M.P.), the Head
Priest of Gorakhnath Temple, Gorakhpur is the secretary and his successor
Yogi Aditya Nathji (M.P., Gorakhpur) is the joint secretary of our college.
The renowned Gorakhnath Temple is situated in the north zone of the Gorakhpur
city. It is at a distance of 3.0 kms from the college.
The time is not for ahead when the college shall be able to realize the
vision and the grand mission of the great soul „Digvijay Nathji Maharaj‟
on whom the college is named.
His Holiness Late Digvijay Nathji, the former Head Priest of Gorakhnath
Temple, Gorakhpur was the founder of our college. He was the great pioneer of
educational renaissance in Eastern U.P. It was he who established the trust
“Maharana Pratap Shisha Parishad”, Gorakhpur, U.P. in 1932 to spread the light
of knowledge among the people of Eastern U.P. whom he found to be living in
utter poverty, ignorance and backwardness of all kinds. He came to Gorakhnath
temple, Gorakhpur at the age of five from the Royal Family of Mewar, Udaipur
in 1900 and grew and learnt the lesson of selfless sacrifice and dedication to the
service of the suffering humanity under the spiritual care of his great Guru
Gambhir Nathji Maharaj. In 1949-50 Maharana Pratap Degree College, Civil
Lines, Gorakhpur, U.P. was established by “Maharana Pratap Shiksha
Parishad Gorakhpur” in Civil Lines area.
We are proud to say that our educational trust Maharana Pratap
Shiksha Parishad, Gorakhpur has contributed much in the opening of
Gorakhpur University. Rs. 50,00,000/- or its equivalent assets were the

condition for the opening of Gorakhpur University. Our old institution
named M.P. Degree College, Civil Lines, Gorakhpur was merged into
Gorakhpur University along with its entire infrastructure including
teaching and non-teaching staff in 1958 to meet up the requirement for the
opening of Gorakhpur University. Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant was the
Chief Minister of U.P. at that time and Dr. Hari Prasad Shahi was the
Principal of M.P. Degree College, Civil Lines, Gorakhpur.
Digvijay Nath P.G. College, Gorakhpur was inaugurated in 1969.
The administration of this college is run by the managing committee
appointed by Maharana Pratap Shiksha Parishad, Gorakhpur,
U.P.(page.88). The Principal is an ex-officio member of the managing
committee and is responsible for the maintenance and all round
development of the college under the guardianship of His Holiness Mahant
Avedya Nathji Maharaj, the present Head Priest of Gorakhnath Temple,
Gorakhpur and his loyal successor Yogi Adityanathji . Under his kind
guidance and patronage M.P. Shiksha Parishad, Gorakhpur and Digvijay
Nath Post Graduate College, Gorakhpur are flourishing ceaselessly. At
present 33 institutions are being run by M.P. Shiksha Parishad, Gorakhpur.
It is a great pleasure, opportunity and honour for the college to
develop the multifarious educational faculties, ensure their all round
development, commitment, dedication and effort to achieve new heights.
We are proud to say that under the guardianship of Maharana Pratap
Shiksha Parishad, Gorakhpur we have been able to add new faculty of
Commerce at U.G. level in the college. Graduate teaching in eleven
subjects in Arts ; Botany, Chemistry/ Military Science, Zoology, Physics,
Mathematics and Computer Science in Science ; Post Graduate teaching in
Ancient History, Hindi, Geography and teacher training course B.Ed. are
already running successfully. In addition to these U.P. Rajarshi Tandon
Open University education centre in 26 courses are also being run at U.G
and P.G. level. The college has applied for Home Science, Philosophy and
Medieval History course at UG level.
Our college family bids thank to Dr. K.N.P. Singh, the former
principal under whose guidance and leadership the preparation of The Self
Study Report as desired by NAAC had got final shape.
Dr. Yogendra Singh took the charge of principal from Dr. K.N.P.
Singh on 28th July, 2006. In light of letter dated 15-06-2006 from U.P.
State Council for Higher Education we revised „The Self Study Report‟ on
modified format on the basis of guidelines of NAAC-Bangalore (website :
www.naacindia.org). He too took interest and motivated the steering committee
The Annual Quality Assurance Report – 2011 9
to speed up its action. As a result a „Self Study Report (SSR)‟ running into 376
pages on the prescribed format was prepared with the active cooperation of the
members of Steering Committee and the entire college staff. This SSR in five
copies along with a C.D. was sent to the NAAC, Bangalore on 25 January, 2007.
The three members Peer Team set up by the NAAC visited the college on 26, 27
and 28 March, 2007 for physical verification and inspection of the college. It is a
matter of great pleasure and privilege for us that our college Digvijay Nath P.G.
college, Civil lines, Gorakhpur has been placed on the UGC-NAAC approved
list. The certificate awarded by the NAAC to Digvijay Nath P.G. College.
Gorakhpur bears Certificate No. 416/ March 31, 2007 which can be seen on
Internet- UGC Website (www.naacindia.org). The establishment of IQAC for
„Post Accreditation Activities‟ in the college was sent to the NAAC, Bangalore
on 24 August, 2007. The Director of UGC-NAAC approved the formation of
UGC-NAAC-IQAC by a letter dated September 07, 2007. The first meeting of
IQAC was held in the Principal‟s Chamber on 12 October, 2007.
Dr. Maya Shankar Singh selected by Higher Education Service
Commission, Allahabad (U.P.) took the charge of Principal from Dr. Yogendra
Singh on 18 May, 2009. Since then he is endeavoring very hard to maintain the
grand tradition of the college and also to uplift its standard, keeping in view the
norms laid down by the UGC/NAAC and is trying to raise it to the level of a
standard centre of higher learning as desired and suggested by UGC/NAAC Peer
Team. We are very much hopeful that under the dynamic, enthusiastic, inventive
and innovative efforts and guidance of the present principal, the college is likely
to earn the reputation of an institution of a great esteem and repute both
qualitatively and quantitatively.
The College had been progressing under the leadership of 1. Late
Sri Brij Mohan Singh (1969-1993) ; 2. Late Dr. Kunwar Narendra Pratap
Singh (1993 -2006) ; 3. Dr. Yogendra Singh (2006 -17 May, 2009) and 4.
Dr. Maya Shankar Singh (18 May, 2009 – till date) as Principals.
In the field of co-curricular activities, we are trying to perform
better. The students of this college have got places in Inter -University and
Inter-State games & sports. The students take active part in different
programmes celebrated during Founder's Week which is held at a large
scale every year between 4th and 10th December. Our alumini got
placements in private and government sectors. Campus recruiters include
Apex Labs, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank and more.
All the Post Accreditation Activities in the College are completed
under supervision of IQAC established in the College. IQAC is authorized
to oversee the internal quality of Academic and Administrative
Programmes through different committees constituted in the College
(Appendix-14). At present Dr. Kailash Singh, Reader in Zoology and
Incharge Science is bearing the responsibility of IQAC in the college.
