PART A:
PLAN OF ACTION CHALKED OUT BY THE IQAC FOR 2010-2011:
In today‟s world of rapid development and advanced technology, education cannot be relegated to
class room teaching. With an instant access to information across the world, education is evolving
into rich bastion of knowledge and information. Hence it is necessary to promote education with a
view to enrich students with latest global information through live experiences and extension
activities for personality development. Use of modern technology to support teaching is the need of
the hour. It therefore becomes equally important for the teacher to be technology literate and for the
management to make provisions for the same. Hence the role of the management is that of an
overseer and provider with a modern approach to the education process. The following plans seek to
implement these objectives through various programmes in the hope of imparting a well rounded
education to the student.
PLAN FOR STUDENTS:
a. Improvement of academic excellence and facilitating improvement in results.
b. Organizing field studies, excursions, project work, surveys, educational visits etc.
c. Industrial orimentation of students.
d. Start distance education for the aspirant students who are not able to attuned classes.
e. Preparing students for job opportunities by imparting training for interviews, group
giscussions etc.
h. Personality Development through workshops.
i. Training for competitive examinations like GATE, GMAT, UPSC, APSC,TET, etc.
j. Overall development of students to make him/her a proud and successful Indian citizen. This
will be achieved through NCC and NSS activities.
k. Regular counseling activities to be conducted on the campus.
l. Strengthening of Alumni Association by motivating them to render help in college activities.
m. Internet facility connected in the Library.
n. Providing financial assistance to the students and remedial couching to the students.

a. Motivating staff members to undertake research work and to participate in National and
International Conferences.
b. Creating health awareness by arranging lecture series.

b. Conducting personality, aptitude and intelligence tests with the help of experience Teacher.
c. Arranging slide shows for creating awareness about nature conservation and wildlife
protection etc.

e. Arranging quiz contests, debates and extempore speech competition.

PART: B
Activities reflecting the Goals and Objectives of the Institution Janata college, Kabuganj, caters to the needs
of under privileged section of the society. The students seeking admission to our college are not academic
achievers and do not come from educated families. Many of them are first generation learners; in spite of this
fact the college by various training sessions tries to improve their record. Our goals and objectives rightly
reflect when we personally supervise growth of our students. As the eagle has vigilant vision, our principal,
staff and even the nonteaching staff are keen and eager for the all round development of student .We always

appraised the fresher‟s and the newly elected sectional secretaries of the Students‟ Union to uphold the
tradition of the college and have a free access to the faculty members for consultation of their academic
problems in the first session of the Students‟ Union and the Fresher‟s Social Meet, the students are also well
informed about the facilities the college can provide and the difficulties the college faces. However, the
following activities were given priorities to realise our goals in the coming years.
a. Improvement of academic excellence and facilitating result improvement through Periodical tests,
assignments, quiz contest, Project presentations with a view of developing communication skills as
most of the students are from vernacular medium.
b. Writing assignments to improve their vocabulary and writing skills. Translation workshops,
discussion of test papers, elaboration of common mistakes committed and their correction
Conducting workshops in personality development, communication skills etc.
c. Conducting field visits, surveys, institutional visits, excursions: To give students a first hand
experience about the syllabus that they learn in lecture rooms and thereby improves their
understanding of concepts. Hence as planned at the beginning of the academic year all the
departments have exposed students to some or other kind of outdoor practical experience.
2. NEW ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES INITIATED (UG & PG)
No new academic programme is being initiated; however, proposal has been made for starting open
University courses in UG and PG level, in collaboration with other universities but still pending for approval.
BBP and BA course in distance mode under Krishana Kanta Handiqui State Open University started.
3. INNOVATIONS IN CURRICULAR DESIGN AND TRANSACTIONS:
As has already been stated that the College is affiliated to Assam University, and therefore, it follows
curriculum designed and prescribed by the University. Under the present status, thecollege does not have
freedom to review and update curriculum. Apart from that, a few members of the faculty are associated with
the syllabus framing, designing and in transaction. Some of the faculty members are the members of Board
of Undergraduate Studies (BUGS) of Assam University, Silchar. In addition to that, some teachers are
involved in framing the syllabus of the short term/vocational courses that are conducted by the college.
Principal is member of Academic council, Planning Board, Court and Examination committees.
1. INTERDISCIPLINARY PROGRAMMES STARTED:
Interdisciplinary programme as conceived is yet to be introduced in the college. However, an interesting
point in this regard is the opening of General foundation course paper studied in TDC 3rd
year an
interdisciplinary paper which consists of environmental studies and many of the topics from social sciences ,
regional development ,economics, philosophy, sociology, history, political science, geography and Literature
etc.

5. EXAMINATION REFORMS IMPLEMENTED:
Any kind of examination reforms is also under the purview of ASSAM UNIVERSITY. Currently, university
examinations are held annually. The college can hold half year or terminal examination as per university
norms. However, all the departments are encouraged to conduct unit Tests at the departmental level.

Fees generated from the students as non-govt. fund constitute as an important resource. The amount from
internal resources generated was ` Rs. 19, 32, 984.00 during 2010-2011 of which Rs. 68,260.00 from the

The college, as usual delivers , regular community services when and wherever necessitates like collecting
donations for disaster victims within or outside India , observing days of National and International
importance, bringing awareness for environmental protection ,health and sanitation, promoting scientific
spirit and moral value .

21. IMPROVEMENT IN THE LIBRARY SERVICES:
i) Automation of Library: Library is in the process of automation with SOUL 1.0 Library Management
Software from INFLIBNET, and the process of building a Database of the total resources of the library is
going on. This will enable computerized circulation and management of the libray.
ii) Free Internet Access: Various measures have been devised to enable Broadband connection in the library
for free browsing of Internet for the students and the faculty. The library also provides reference service for
proper retrieval of information through various websites.
22. NEW BOOKS/JOURNALS SUBSCRIBED AND THEIR VALUE:
A total of 665 number of Books are added in the library amounting Rs. Rs. 2,22,040.00 of which from UGC
GDA grant amounting to Rs 1,66,472.00 and books and journals amounting to Rs 74,224.00 from UGC
book and journal grants.
23. COURSES IN WHICH STUDENT ASSESSMENT OF TEACHERS IS INTRODUCED
AND THE ACTION TAKEN ON STUDENT FEEDBACK:
The College has adopted a system of evaluation of teachers by students in each department. The various
ratings awarded for each teacher are tabulated and the conclusions are reviewed with concerned teacher with
a view to overcoming the short comings observed in the feedback.

programme for teaching & non teaching staff of the college, in college premises.
26. INCREASE IN THE INFRASTRUCTURAL FACILITIES:
College received Infrastructure Development Grant (DHE) amounting Rs. 4,90,000.00 and Girls Common
Room Development Grant (DHE) amounting Rs. 4,00,000.00 and construction work started. Construction of
auditorium hall has been started this year with a financial assistance from Union cabinet Minister S M DEV.
Girls Hostel has also likely been completed.

27. TECHNOLOGY UP GRADATION:

In the session, 04 (Four) nos. of computer, as mentioned earlier, were installed for self financing computer
courses run by the Research and Programme of Studies Cell of the College.
28. COMPUTER AND INTERNET ACCESS AND TRAINING TO TEACHERS,
NONTEACHING STAFF AND STUDENTS
Selected teachers and administrative staffs undergo computer training besides students in general. 26-28
August, 2010 NIIT, Silchar and Janata College jointly organised three days computer training programme for
teaching & non teaching staff of the college, in college premises.
29. FINANCIAL AID TO STUDENTS.
Since Student‟s poor fund of is very low and hence the college has no scheme of giving financial aid to any
students of the college as such. However, college provide some poor meritorious students free education.
The students belonging to SC/ST/OBC enjoyed scholarship from the respective State Government
Departments. 110 students Rs. 3,20,470.00 of Rs. 16090.00 could not disbursed as they left the place and
joined in the service. Beside this, the meritorious students can avail of merit scholarship sponsored by the
Directorate of University and Higher Education, Govt. of Assam.
The college has no scheme of giving financial aid to any students of the college. However, students
belonging to SC/ST/OBC enjoyed scholarship from the respective departments of the state govt. Besides, the
meritorious students can avail of merit scholarship sponsored by the Directorate of University and Higher
Education, Govt. of Assam.
BPL stipend is given to the meritorious poor students under BPL category amounting Rs. 45,045.00 to 34
students free education scheme from UGC Colleges with relatively higher proportion of SC/ ST/ OBC
(excluding creamy layer) and Minorities (At least 35% of the students may comprise SC/ST/OBC (Non-
creamy layer)/ Minorities/Economically deprived/ physically challenged or college is minority institution).
Conveyance allowance of Rs. 40,070.00 is given to17 (Seventeen) students who are coming from the remote
part, good performance and regular attendance and economically backward.

30. ACTIVITIES AND SUPPORT FROM THE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION.
Support of the Alumni association is yet to come in different ways.
31. ACTIVITIES AND SUPPORT FROM THE PARENT TEACHER ASSOCIATION:
The college organizes parent teachers meet regularly to discuss the activities related to academic and co
curricular excellence of their wards. Interaction among teachers, parents and the Principal of the College
generally takes place on following occasion:
a) At the time of admission, counseling of students & parents are held. They are made aware of the rules and
regulations of the College and are also made aware of different subject combinations etc.
b) The Principal and the teachers meet the parents regarding lower attendance in class and poor performance
in college exam of their wards. Suggestions are sought from the parents and cooperation is solicited from
them in this regard
32. HEALTH SERVICES:
No permanent health centre is being established in the campus. However , health check up and awareness
camps are organised time to time in cooperation with Health department , Govt. of Assam and other Social
cooperation with Health department , Govt. of Assam and other Social organisation. College has a good
relation with Dhalai PHC and Narsingpur PHC, both the PHC gives constant services to the college as and
when asked for. However, healths check up and awareness camps are organised time to time in co-operation
with Health department, Govt. of Assam and other Social organisations.
33. PERFORMANCE IN SPORTS ACTIVITIES:
Achievements were made during this session in the fields of Kabadi and Cricket (Boys). However, the
following events were organised by the college during the period.

34. INCENTIVES TO OUTSTANDING SPORTS PERSONS:
Outstanding sport persons can enjoy the facility of seat reservation at the time of admission. Besides,
selected students of the college in the inter college sports meet for participation in the inter- zonal university
sports meet are given cash incentives in addition to the amount sanctioned by the university.
35. STUDENTS ACHIEVEMENTS AND AWARDS:
Students participated in various inter college competitions but could achieve an awards.
36. ACTIVITIES OF THE GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING UNIT:
The Cell organized students (both past and present) of the college for submission of application to appear at a
special interview arranged by the NASCOM (National Association of Companies) in association with the
DONER Ministry of Central Govt. and the department of Higher Education ,Govt of Assam with the
objective of training and subsequent employment in industrial sector. The Cell sent about 20 students for a
four day industrial exposure programme (Udyogjyoti Achani) to Guwahati organized and sponsored by the
Govt. of Assam through the Directorate of Industries and Commerce. College provide
37. PLACEMENT SERVICES PROVIDED TO STUDENTS:
There is no record of students who got placements especially after completion of their studies. Campus
placements are exceptional cases in a general college like ours. Moreover, the private companies have little
access. College invites different placement organization but all of them offered Call centre service at low
cost. Students are not interested about that job they prefer to join Indian Army and take NCC as their
extracurricular activities.
38. DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMMES FOR NONTEACHING STAFF:
Automation training was provided to non teaching staff of the college and also demonstration of new
equipments for operation.
39. HEALTHY PRACTICES OF THE INSTITUTION:
The college functions under administrative framework of Assam State Government, and therefore it has
certain inbuilt limitations. Within the limited capacity the college has time tested reputation in maintaining
and developing various healthy practices in various life and activities which make it “a college with
difference”. The following are the few of the healthy practices of the college.

3. Financial aid of Rs. 45,045.00 is given in the form of Admission and examination fees and
Rs. 40,070.00 conveyance to 17 students to the students from BPL family
4. Extracurricular & co curricular activities through the participation of the college and inter college
level.
4. Holding of annual get together for the teaching and nonteaching staff.
5. Regular meetings of the Teachers Council of the college to explore ways and means for academic and
infrastructural development.
6. Canteen facilities for staff and students.
7. Recognition of the services of retiring and existing teachers and staff of the college
8. Organized educational tour which historical places and tea factory, where production of tea was
explained to the students.

No new linkages have been developed with National/International, Academic/Research Bodies with
Institutional basis but on personal level different teachers have good relations and conduct project and review
journals.

11. As we could not provide large number of computers for on line examination hence computer
laboratory will be developed by increasing the number of computers.
12. The college needs to provide research facilities to the faculty members so that they can pursue their
research goals and be linked to the latest development in their respective area of specialization;
13. For efficient output under the CBCS system, the college will promote collaboration with other
universities, National Laboratories, National Library, institutes of national importance and industries
in all branches of knowledge.
14. For academic excellence it has been proposed for small class rooms, additional class rooms and
furniture.
