    Dave Binn, San Mateo High SchoolA true specialist in the tough world of professional football, hedeveloped his long-snapping skills at San Mateo and at theUniversity of California. After his days in Berkeley, he has been

    a valuable long-snapper for the NFL's San Diego Chargers since1994. After the 2006 season, he was named to the Pro Bowl.

    Rich Bordi, EI Camino High SchoolA right-handed pitcher, he went from his prep days in SouthSan Francisco to success at Fresno State University. He spent

    nine professional seasons in the major leagues. He had an overall20-20 record, with 10 saves and 173 appearances, 156 of thosein relief .

    Walt Gilliam, San Mateo High SchoolPlaying as an amateur golfer, he won prestigious tournamentsin San Francisco, Santa Barbara and on the Peninsula. In 1965,he was named Amateur of the Year. In 2005, he became amember of the Northern California Golf Hall of Fame.

    Marty Hull, Sequoia High SchoolFrom the moment he entered the swimming pool, he was markedfor stardom. He fulfilled that potential at Sequoia and later atStanford Unversity where he became an all-American. He set anumber of national records at Stanford. He is also a successfulinventor and businessman.

    for several generations of young people in the South County andbeyond. He is a greatly respected community figure.

    Steve Shafer College of San MateoA football coach at CSM for eight seasons beginning in 1968, hewent on from there to achieve great success at the professionallevel in both Canada and in the NFL. He was an assistant head

    coach with the 2000 Baltimore Ravens who won the Super Bowl.

    Carlmont High SchoolMark Speckman, Menlo CollegeIn the athletic annals of the Peninsula, there is no one else quite likehim. Born without hands, he nonetheless played high school andcollege football. He has been a successful coach at both of thoselevels as well. He is currently the head coach atWillamette University.
